Mass effect 2 should of gotten it. What is it with Spike's bias against RPG's?
What do you mean? GOTY 2006 was OBLIVION (game of Jesus), GOTY 2008 was Fallout 3 (honestly a pretty good game, besides my bias), and GOTY 2011 will be Skyrim.
If it makes the 11/11/11 release date. I of course have high hopes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back into 2012. *fingers crossed*

No, don't worry about over-hyping it. I loved Dragon Age II (yes, on the console *gasp*) and so I have no doubts I'll enjoy ME1/2. xD

drage age 2...im ludicrously jealous you've played that game already!

*sarcasm aside*

well you'll be suprised to hear. i enjoyed the fuck out of it on console myself. honestly i prefer it with a controller, i love the snap functions of it, i can fly through the wheel and the main screens like a super computer but when i move to playing it on the computer i get annoyed having to drag my mouse everywhere. i understand while some people might not like it but im with you on that it was highly enjoyable on the console =]

Awards don't affect me, but I would've given my vote to Civilization V.

Out of those I've only tried Red Dead Redemption and Fallout 2, and both just a little bit. Being a pure PC player might have something to do with this.

But he was damned better than John Marston.

OT: I'm totally alright with all of those, except for Best Soundtrack. And, I'm not that much of a fan of RDR, but, hey, it won, great.
See, the one thing I liked about him was that he was focused on what his task was (getting to his family) and wasn't this morally all-good, angel type of character. He wasn't always putting himself into a situation because it was 'right'. He was indifferent to some, if not most, of the things going on around him, because he had his own shit to worry about.

It was refreshing, at least for me.

Me too... and if I catch you watching next year I'll bonk you on the head with a blow-up of 'Woody' xD

My bad... I was just looking at my pre-order for Dragon Age II, which isn't even out yet. >.>

Me too. I suppose a lot of that has to do with how I've grown up with controllers in my hand though.

Still, loved it! Which reminds me, I have another playthrough to finish that with! Perhaps I should get that done before I start ME1. >.>

He wasn't focused. At all. Marston's "great" decision-making prolonged the game for obscene amounts of time.

Not only he was indifferent, he was constantly threatening everyone and he never actually did anything. He was like a dog on a leash - couldn't do anything, so he just kept barking.

Oh, and all that family stuff doesn't really change the fact he's a murderer.

I heard about the results from a source who shall remain anonymous, but I'm happy Game of the Year went to Red Dead. It's not my personal choice, but it certainly deserves it.
I'm just glad it didn't go to Black Ops. Personally, RDR was my choice, but likely because I haven't played Mass Effect yet, let alone Mass Effect 2.

*baps twice* That is for both games. Now go play them! I cannot say anything about RDR as I have yet to play it myself. So ME2 won my vote by default. How Black Ops won character of the year is simply mind boggling. What character depth does BO have?

Jennifer Hale should have one for best female VA.

o.o Okay! Perhaps I should quit getting distracted with 'scapist, and start playing now? Although, I have been curious if I should play as a female or male character. Anyone have thoughts vs. the two?

No I know it's interesting but a lot of people are getting bent out of shape over it. Seriously it's like being disappointed over a Nintendo or Final Fantasy character winning the polls at GameFaqs. The vast majority at GameFAQs are uberfanboys and the people participating in the VGAs cant be far behind.

Edit: I'm almost at 4K posts? Holy crap when did that happen? Why didn't you people warn me?! D:
No, you're right, a vast majority of the voters are fanboys. Although I know I shouldn't get bent out of shape, it's the popularity contest and sheer stupidity that still gets to me. Still, give this about twelve hours, and it'll be out of my head. Hell, I'm sure we'll all be bored of it within a page and a half.

Also, [HEADING=3]You're nearly at 4k posts! xD[/HEADING]

Gasp and zounds D: you are RIGHT I am!

I don't get the popularity thing, my friend got mad at me because I hated Other: M, he loved it I hated it. My point (which he didn't care about) was me hating it doesn't impact him enjoying it. He just argued it was a great game, which is subjective, I thought it was the worst metroid game ever made. And I stand by it.

And wasn't his wife? Or at least she ran with that gang? But even so, I liked that he wasn't this perfect citizen prior, but was trying to do something right for his family. It's a nice change from the whole "You're the only one who stands between us and them. The survival of alllll humanity!" Don't get me wrong, those stories can still be done well, and I do in fact enjoy them, but then playing this... well, it was different and I found myself enjoying it. Though, at first, I didn't enjoy it at all...

I don't get the mentality that a game can't be good because it's popular. I can understand some people liking, while others don't. I can also understand your friend saying it's subjective, because well... most things are.

I'm not saying his story is bad, just that he is the "typical Rockstar fare" character - a troubled man who is trying to achieve a goal he deems important through being a pawn in everyone's court.

Frank Woods, on the other hand, is just another CoD hard guy, but, man, he is a very badass, emotional, likeable hard guy. He's the Soap McTavish of Black Ops - there are at least four instances of him being awesome.

I can't think of none myself for Marston. In fact, at one point, doesn't he, like, work for the Mexican Army against the rebels? Surely a great man.

Red Dead deserved it, but this all sounds like a rather, um, shallow, awards ceremony, just from what I'm picking up on the candidates and the rest of the comments here.

My biggest gripe really is that this 'Woody' character has only been around for about a month and a half. So yes, I'm quite biased. >.>

Still, you're right. His moral stances are iffy, at best. Especially with the Mexicans. I wasn't too impressed when he stood around while those guys were hassling those women (and likely raping them).

Would you have personally chosen any of those nominees? Or, perhaps someone else not mentioned?

Wait Woods won best character? He barely had a character beyond some army dude.
I don't watch the VGAs for their good judgement but still, did they just have to have call of duty win something?

Something I'm not noticing anyone mention is Guillermo Del Toro's bid for a new horror game. If this "inSane" game he's working on gets off the ground, there could really be something there.

Sorry, but RDR was not GOTY. That should have gone to Mass Effect 2.

There was far too much fellatio of Red Dead Redemption at those awards...and I think little of it was deserved. Then again, I've always felt RDR was over-hyped...so that's probably just me.
I agree with RDR being overhyped. I mean it was fun and all but it felt empty and barren for most of the game.

*Puts on Fanboy hat* Plus Mass Effect 2 is my favourite game so that just goes to show that an empty game that comes from an iffy dev team can get GotY if they put enough money in it.

I mentioned it in one of my prior posts, but it was likely lost within quotes. I... am unfamiliar with him. >.> But it's a long ways away 2013 is, and that trailer teaser didn't quite get me excited. I guess this is likely because I'm not sure who he is.

While yeah, I was MOOOORE than happy to see RDR win and Harris win cause his dialogue made me sometimes burst with laughter (they are called sticking abilities)-(fuck black ops in both ends), I was actually more amazed to this:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/vga-10-batman-arkham/708342

I mean, fuck, they look almost like real! Up until Bats glide-stomped one of the goons, I thought it was live action!
