I don't get it.
What's the connection between sports and "manlyness"?
Don't women play sports aswell?
Anyway, I feel guilty for thinking of myself as "manly" after reading some posts.
I just don't want people to ***** about every little problem they have or make excuses to get out of PE.
Seriously!
I'm an overweight asmatic, I don't care about the fact that you foot is a little sore after running. It's no excuse to doing PE for 3 months, if I can do then you certainly can!
Damn, I really got off topic...

I think Yahtzee already went through a well-made list of the differences between a real man and a "manly" man.

That's not manly, this is manly: http://artofmanliness.com/ Great site, it points out that manliness also comes from being a decent guy rather then just 'GRRR I HAZ MUSCLES".

Next time someone brings up sports as the absolute prime example of manliness, point out all the homoerotic actions that take place during an average football game.

They are probably insecure and have a small penis. There is probably something you could do with that.

Girls that they fight for as they are REAL MEN - Check
My thoughts exactly.
So. Much. Manliness.

Also, God of War is manly and also, that radio host guy sounded like a douche that thinks playing games is gay.

Well, I can start with my wife's answer:
"You have Small Cock Syndrome. Please vacate the earth and give the rest of us some more space. Incidentally, my husband has played video games since he was a kid, which has given him considerable finger dexterity."

I would perhaps be slightly less direct, and I'm sure I don't know what she means with that last bit...

(Oh, and I'm reliably informed that the flashiness of someone's car is in inverse proportion to their endowment. Perhaps it's mean of me, but I find myself suspecting that this radio host drives a muscle car. Incidentally, I drive a battered old ex-military Land Rover.)

I'm 6'4". I look like what the South Africans call "a breker", essentially the sort of person that breaks bones for a living. (I don't, of course - but I apparently look like I could.) I never had any girlfriends, and my first kiss was last year, at the age of 27, with the woman who this May became my wife.

I'm happily married, I'm ex-Air Force, and I'm a soul/funk/R&B drummer. My hobbies include computer games, shooting, aikido, and half cross stitch embroidery. I write fanfic and original fiction, I play airsoft, and I'm pretty good at sewing. I also have an extensive collection of cuddly toys.

And I have the DVDs of ESPN's coverage of the last three SWAT World Challenges.

Isn't it nice that not everyone fits into that twit's convenient pigeonholes?

I would facepalm and walk away. There's no reason to have to deal with scum like him.

I dislike people who say games are for kids. Some of it is heart wrenching stuff (MOTHER 3), some of it inspires large amounts of creative thinking (Portal) and some of it has some really graphic violence or sexual themes (no specific example), and a lot of it, bar the violence and sex, is suitable for both adults and kids.

I'm fine with him not liking games, but it's the fact that he's so close-minded that bugs me. Not all gamers spend their time in their parents basement or are kids.

The whole concept of "manliness" is bullshit. It's all about traditional gender roles, which we stopped paying attention to decades ago.

I am a man, and I like girls...no...women, because I'm not a pedophile, and I will go on record saying I hate sports. I think they are inconsequential bullshit.

Besides, ask them to argue why sports are any more "manly" than any Modern Warfare tournament. Or any less geeky.

I'm sure you could come up with a counter-argument for every point he comes up with.

Now, as for sci-fi/fantasy, just cite Battlestar Galactica. It's a series about war...FUCKING WAR! AGAINST MOTHERFUCKING ROBOTS! Tell me that's not intense. IN SPACE! MOTHERFUCKING SPACE! Something that doesn't even have to try to kill you to be good at it.

When it comes to animation, the great thing about Japanese Animation is that there is literally something for everybody. Try looking for one of those porno anime flicks where men have sex with women.

Also, ask him how giant robots fighting in an animated movie is any less manly then giant robots fighting in a Michael Bay movie.

So there's this guy on some radio show I listen to who, whenever anything that involves video games(or animation, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, or whatever remotely related), is mentioned, he always answers with...

"I don't watch/play/read that stuff... I like girls... I like sports... I like ESPN..."

Basically, everything else not sports related or involves real women to this guy is not manly... its all kids stuff...

People in my daily life are starting to say similar lines and its starting to piss me off...

So, Besides ignoring them (or turning the radio off), What is a good response to people who think that everthing you like is not "Manly"?

How would you respond to these "manly" people?
If i wanted to troll, I'd say "Go ahead and watch big sweaty men in tights grab balls. Me, I'll shoot pixels with my pixel gun."
Now, If I was feeling like a normal human, I'd say "The only guy I know who was obsessed with manliness is a crossdresser. Think about it."
