Love how they ignore the fact that the "controversial" scene in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was both entirely skippable and also that it was done purely for boosted sales. (Just like Mass Effect's sex scene and the whole arguement over it blah dee blah dee blah

I think there was already a thread on this. Yeah, I don't like Alan Titchmarsh and this gave me another reason to hate him even more. Anyway, the stupid bint that was riling against videogames actually voice acted in one, so I heard so she is a hypocrite screaming LOOK AT MEEE! even though I have never even heard of her even though she is an actress (mind you, if its not Vincent D'Onofrio I don't give a rats ass who it is). Kudos to Tim for not smacking the other 2 panellists and Alan Titchmarsh. What was that about the Bulger killers? according to the media it was horror films (more specifically, Childs Play 3) that was said to have an effect on those two, even though I doubt those monsters needed any kind of stimulus to do what they did.

This is going to sound very, very cruel, and I apologize in advance, but...people like that are going to die before most of us do, and take their bigoted views with them. Let us await that day.
None of us find that cruel, Furburt. We all agree and await that day with excitement.
Hate to burst your bubble guys, but there will always be idiots. Sorry.
I applaud your optimism though.

YOu know what else promotes hate, violence, and sexism?

FOX NEWS.
And the Daily Fail, for those of us in the UK sans Satellite TV.

Okay, skip all the scandal rubbish, 3:31

"The average age of gamers is 33"

If that's true it's actually kind of awesome.

Call Of Duty 2? Erm, you're five years too late for that one mate...

Edit: Also, Alan Titchmarsh? What the fuck is he doing with a chat show? he was a gardener last time I checked...

Another edit: That dude deserves a medal, he was clearly only brought on to provide a hate figure for an audience who had already made up it's mind, I don't think I could have kept as calm as he does in the face of such an unfounded, one-sided argument.

Here is an unpopular opinion. When you think about how many games portray the themes of violence, women, and mayhem in general it stands to reaosn that they will have some effect on how the brain organizes information related to these categories. Does playing violent games affect how you at least view violence, YES.

However, violence has and always will be around and if there were not videogames to indulge our violent fantaises, we would get that need filled elsewhere, like with galdiators.

The views in that video were rediculous though.

Don't forget racism, games promote that too!

Gotta love the part where she's making up studies and figures and then saying they're proven facts.

Yeah sure, if a kid with problems plays a violent video games it probably will make him a little bit crazier, but a perfectly mentally stable kid is not gonna be affected by it.

Also, where the fuck are the 'concerned parents' when their kids are buying/playing these games? Some parents are just a little bit too quick to blame the industry.

I dunno, guys. Clearly there's a lot of bullshit in here, but is it really inaccurate to say that Modern Warfare 2 promotes violence by naturalizing war and making it exciting? Is it really inaccurate to say that a game like Dead or Alive promotes sexism?

If the video game community were really mature at all, they would respond to these accusations by looking to see what could cause them, not saying that we should either kill or wait for the death of people that make them.

I hate that honky broad and want to do violence to people like her, but I'm too addicted to games to get up and do it.

"In ten years will see who's predictions are right..."

No they won't! They wouldn't listen to any measure of the truth, because they approach the debate with their pet beliefs fully ingrained, and they're doing whatever it takes to defend them.

I think we're pegging the genre too broadly here. Like if we look all of film more broadly, you will find films that promote violence by naturalizing war and making it exciting, you will find movies which promote sexism through big bosom-ed ladies bouncing around in bikinis.

There are also examples in the genre that do neither. Does Mario naturalize war? Does Heavy Rain promote sexism?

Etc, etc.

I mean, I understand your sentiment: Yes, I can see where one comes from when they level these charges at the gaming industry. But I don't think anyone can argue that the industry should somehow develop a common morality and outlook on what it should be producing. Games are produced by separate independent entities, some times by single individuals alone, and to expect everyone to think that games should do or say one thing or message is unrealistic at best.

How could we forget? Got to love how the Daily Mail, a newspaper that would have "Send The Buggers Back" as its official motto if it could get away with it, suddenly comes over all PC when it suits it to.

I think the things that most game critics overlook is the fact that kids who play violent games are usually breaking the law just as much as the ones who sneak in to see adult rated films.

When a 13 year-old is playing something like FEAR 2, then you know something is wrong. Either it's the fault of the retailer, or it's the fault of the parent. It's usually the fault of the parent, who doesn't want to take the blame for a mistake that they should have prevented in the first place, so they tend to blame the game for being 'too violent' for their little, spoiled brat.

Honestly, I think the nice thing about violent video games is the fact it gives me a way to release some tension, let off some stress, and kill some people without ending up in jail with a life-sentence. Reading a book or watching a movie doesn't let me do that, which is why I play violent games like L4D2 and so-on. If it was 'Scientifically Proven' that these children were more violent after playing violent video games, then let there be a test that's actually run by a game/console company, and not an anti-videogame violence group, hm?

I just wonder how people can even be quite that self-righteous to defend the movie industry, with things like Saw, and Saw 2, Jurassic Park, and so-on, so-forth, and then bash down on video games. Yes, there's the difference of interactivity, but all they're going on about is the problem with violence. x.x;

Guys/Gals, we have to accept that there will always be naysayers of videogames, and that we really just have to ignore them.

There is an intersting points behind this 1. Julie Peasgood (self righteous ***** in the middle) actually was a voice actor for the game Martian Gothic: Unification which is rated 17+ 2. Kelvin MacKenzie (Guy on the right) did make concessions to what Chris Ingham (CVG editor, guest on the left) was saying but everything he said was edited out of the broadcast 3. The audience was asked before the show to "really let your feelings be known if he (Chris Ingham) says something you don't agree with" 4. Peasgood quoted a study without providing a reference of who did it/when/how to view it and anyway the study is about how violent games effect kids and the whole point is games shoudlnt get in the hands of children, stores dont sell to minors (I work for a supermarket in the UK and if any cashier sells and age restriced item and found out the get fired) and parents should look for ratings on games just like they do for movies. Anyone who wants more info go to http://playstuff.net/content.php/55-Petition-for-a-public-apology-from-The-Alan-Titchmarsh-Show-and-Julie-Peasgood. Theres lots of info there and also a petition to get ITV and Julie Peasgood to aplogize

The woman in that show actually provided voice acting for a game called space Gothic, where a team has to fight off flesh eating zombies on Mars in an abandoned reasearch centre.
Fucking Hypocrite

"Hello, I am an old woman who's automatically biased against new media which I did not grow up with, and as such, I spread uneducated opinions against this medium, even though the arguments are actually the same as those used against TV in it's time."
Let me paraphrase even further:
"HERPA DOOO DERR DERR HURR DURRRRRRRRR"
