I did two run throughs of Lost Odyssey before I realized you could run away from battle. It would have saved me a lot of time.

Have you ever noticed something just hidden or never talked about ingame, that was just so painfully obvious, that you just feel stupid afterwards, either it be you finally finding it out, or someone telling you, has this ever happened to you, and with what?...

I just realized yesterday, that my Pipboy in Fallout 3 had a built in flashlight in it that was toggled by holding down the Tab button longer.(have been playing Fallout 3 for the past 3-4 months now)
Wow, this exact same thing happened to me! I felt like an idiot when I told my friend I could never find anything in dark places, and he was just like, dude, your pipboy has a flashlight.

If it wasn't for the internet I never would have been able to beat Ocarina of Time. It's hard to figure out what to do, and Navi doesn't do shit to help out.
yeah, it's possibly the hardest childrens game I've ever played

You can jump off the ledge at the top of the room and break it that way too (unless you're talking about one after that)

In Fallout 3 it took me a while to learn that you could zoom in & out in 3rd person mode. I thought if I wanted 3rd person, I had to look at the full body moonwalking.

Oblivion too. It took me a while to understand everything in that (potions, fast travel, picking up things, leveling up); in fact, I probably still don't.. yea, I still don't know what the hell is happening in lockpicking.

But that even happened to me when the gamepads only had 4 buttons. In Punch Out, it took me a while to learn that Little Mac could throw power punches with the select button.

Spiderman 2 on the Gamecube. Apparently, if you hit any button on the d-pad, you go into a sort of bullet time mode in which your attacks get a lot stronger. There was even a blue bar that I had constantly charged and everything.

Was about 3/4 of the way through the game, when my thumb slipped off the control stick and onto the d-pad, and suddenly a tutorial started up: "Hey, you just activated spider-time! Use this to blah blah..."

Wait, what?

Putting away my gun in FO3.
I'd be like "oh crap, I accidentally hit a friendly!"
*Pip boy*
*Un-equip weapon*
*Lower fists*
*Pip boy*
*Re-equip weapon*
*Call for cease-fire*

Then my brother figured it out on his first playthrough.

It happens to a lot of us.

Although, I have the opposite problem. Fallout has spoiled me into thinking I should be able to kill anyone I want.

I've played more than a few games where I was pissed because I didn't have the amount of freedom I wanted.

for the longest time in WoW I didn't know num-lock auto-moved your character. holding W down and trying to guild chat was a pain.
Same for me! I had no idea you could auto run until I was about level 45/50 (in vanilla) I used to jam a little bit of paper in my keyboard so my character would 'autorun' whilst I took a piss or got a drink >.<
Yes, I have learned to read the entire manual before playing a game. It took me an hour to read WoW's, but it always helps.

I'd beaten two Final Fantasy games (II and III on the SNES, respectively) before I learned that you could run away from battles.
I feel your pain. Mind you, being an eternal optimist, I rarely do run.
Oh, I hear that. Even when I learned you could run, I almost never did. There's just occasions when you kinda gotta run. Like when you get ambushed by a random encounter immediately after a particularly grueling boss fight.

I get a lot of that feeling when playing Demon's Souls, half the stuff I find out I didn't even know I could do in the game itself like "The fuck, I killed that mother fucking thing?!?! How the hell did I do that!" and using the emotes.
I got to the emote menu once by accident, but haven't figured out how to get back to the goddamn thing yet...
Holding down the "X" button I believe, there's supposed to be an easier way to do it but I havn't found it out yet.

I beat the entirety of Bioshock thinking only the cross bow could zoom/go down sights. I felt like a dick after I found out.

You are kidding me!? I sold that game because I found it too hard, and now there's a SLOW MO BUTTON THAT WOULD HAVE MADE THAT FIGHT POSSIBLE?! THE HELL!?

In Fable I guess I missed the part where it explained augments and I didn't even know what they were for until my friend showed me.
