does it have to be Ultrasmurfs though? i mean come on salamanders are more interesting, also blood angels, imperial fists, ANGRY MARINES, and the white scars. i would say the blood ravens and their suspicion of being linked to chaos, but i think thats coming in the DoW2 expansion.

IT'S ABOUT F-ING TIME GW!

Anyway, all i expect is a cheesy film where the Ultramarines kick the general enemy in the right arse.

i want something with lots of fighting and stuff.

i don't expect much, thats probably a good way to go in to it.

(P.S. I enjoyed the old Mario tv series, suck it!)

Bah, 40k space marines are so boring.
You have an easier time relating to rednecks and prisoners?

What sort of obscure past did The Funk rise from?
...would I have an easier time relating to normal humans (albeit rednecks and prisoners) than I would genetically engineered supermen who live hundreds of years and are slavishly devoted to their emperor to the point where "fanaticism" is far too soft a word to describe it?

Yes. Yes I would.
i think you either dont listen to the background behind 40k or you've been shown some pretty bad examples.
Which part of that is incorrect? They are genetically engineered supermen who have century-long lifespans, they're all about BURN THE HERETIC AND THE MUTANT FOR THE EMPERAH to the point of fanaticism. That's what it's been like in any WH40k games I've seen, that's the sort of thing all the 40k fanboys post in threads, etc.
Ok, We get it. you don't like the series...

It's supposed to be over the top, geez. all people ever look for in anything anymore is pure HUMAN EMOTIONS!! Well here is a fact... humanity sucks, give me my over the top super soldier/Knights Templar instead. If you don't walk in with that kind of mentality, then you won't like it...

I like parts of 40k. I think the Imperial Guard is pretty cool, since they're normal guys with lasers against horribly overwhelming odds. I just severely dislike the Space Marines and the rest of the Imperium :p

Some over the top stuff is cool. I personally just find it irritating in 40k most of the time.

NOOOO, WHY CAN'T I REPORT STAFF!?

XDDD John, you nearly lost all the love and respect I have for you.

I kid, I kid, but a Cain film would be really great, hard to make a great film with unlike characters, but they sure as hell better not ruin the fluff all the same.

Based on what I've read in this thread, the 40k license is being severely underestimated and I'm going to try very hard not to burn up.

The appeal is that no matter your personal philosophy, of war or what makes a good soldier, there's a race in 40k that caters to it. Personally I've always enjoyed a specialist approach, so I love the Eldar, beings whose long life has caused them to refine themselves almost to the point of stagnation. By the same merit, there is such a deep pool of potential in terms of varied philosophy and methods that you can tell the same story from seven different points of view and still be interesting, sometimes even within the same race. It's not like you are going to make a hit, suck it dry for two sequels and then have to start whoring out the license in order to move the product. *cough*

OT - My prediction is that this movie will indeed blow. Why? Two reasons: It has the "straight to DVD" stamp of death on it. Second, it's very difficult to cross mediums, and it requires a lot of ingenuity and funding to do so, neither of which are showing so far. Although, the worst they can do is spit out 70 minutes of slop with -+15 minutes of nice visuals.

However, that being said there are plenty of WH40k based shorts out there already, filled with just action, mayhem and WH mythos that you can watch for free. So why the hell would you half-ass a movie attempt? Aside from the hatred of money of course. Oh, and whoring.

Read a Space Wolf novel and tell me they are boring....

As for Starcraft... dont get me started on that ripped off POS.

The whole point of the Space Marine is not blind faith... they fight with their morality every day (all marines start as human norms) and apply their 'religion' to their daily activities. Much like a Knight Templar etc....

I guess each to his own. I like the IG too purely because they are ALWAYS the underdog and one second away from all dying in very painfull and idignant ways.

But give me an Assault Marine with a pistol and a blade and I will show you excitement.

Sorry for the Double post..

Remember that all marines are picked from the Chapters home worlds and then turned into marines.

Read any of the Space Wolf novels to get an idea of actually what is going through a Marines head.. or the Horus Heresy to just how close to humanity these 'men' really are.

Everyone prays to a god in Battle... But how to you control your faith in a Universe of War where losing faith could mean turning on your own?

I just dont think you have truly read enough to be 'knowledgable' person in this matter? But at the same time it is GWs fault for not pushing the full story to peeps that just dont want to read any of the lore? But is that really a usefull expectation of GW?

I give an example:

Space Marine A watches as Space Marine B turns into a demon..

Space Marine A has been told over centuries, by his god and religious leaders, that demons do not exist and to beleive such is heresy...

I just dont see that as boring? But I have read the books 8)

Yay for a 40k movie, boo for Ultramarines vs Orks.

Ultramarines are about as generic/bland as you can get, double so for orks. It'll just be a rehashed version of the Helm's Deep battle but with guns.

A multi stage release telling the Horus Heresy saga would be something to wait for.

What? Space Marines believe in demons and they're told instructed regularly that they're EVIL and must be PURGED.

Furthermore, Space Marines don't view the Emperor as a God. He's the All Father, but not a God. You're thinking of the Ecclesiarchy and the Sister's of Battle who view him as a deity.

As a side note, I have read the Space Wolf novels. All of them in fact.

This movie goes onto the same "MUST SEE" list as Facebook: The Movie and Myspace: The Movie. Must see is sarcasm if you didn't catch that.

Wait... isnt there also a Space Marines game coming out soon?

Well that's made my day a little more depressing. Last time I saw anything about that game it was still Blood Angels. Why did they change the the ultimate generic chapter?

Also - Why, when they changed away from my favourite chapter, did they not remove all the references to it in the dialogue? Angels of death, forged in blood? It's fairly obvious which chapter they're talking about, but it doesn't work now they've whipped out the blue spray paint.

No Tanith eh?

:(

I feel the "Daniverse" (Universe created by Dan Abnett in the warhammer 40k universe) would have been the way to go. But oh well.

I'm really liking the idea of a young man drafted into the Imperial Guard for stealing an apple or something(Hell I don't now!). Then he's shipped off to go pew pew some Tau then things go bad his regiments get's obliterated and then the space marines show up to save the day. Put some inquisitors and a few commissar's around and I think you could have a good movie.

Also some Eldar.

I keep seeing news about this and the automatic response is either something good(Cain, Inquisitor), or something of equal shit value(Space Puppies, Blood Angels, Dark Angels).

If they're going to make a Space Marine movie, much to my dismay, then make it about the Salamanders. They get no love, and you could get Spike Lee to direct it and tell the story of how the other Chapters are racist towards the Salamanders. It would be fantastic!

As for my Space Puppies comment, let me make my intentions clear: They are everything I hate about the Space Marines. I hate them more than I hate the Ultramarines. The Ultramarines are bland and boring and stale and remind me of my last girlfriend. The Space Puppies, however, are the embodiment of all the stupid extremes that are the Space Marines, and they're made out to be the most hardcore bunch of bad-asses in the history of hardcore bad-asses. They get all this crazy shit(Random mutations? I do believe that's considered heresy and would, therefore, be cause to exterminate them), act outside the rules and get away with it all? They're generic action movie heroes! And really, there's nothing cool about a bunch of furrys running around.

All in all, the only good Space Marines are those that have fallen to Chaos....because we kick ass without being whiny little twats.
Salamanders? A big fat no for me. I'd rather take Space Wolves or the cough-awesomest-cough-spacemarine-chapter-cough-blood angels-cough.

In other ontopicness it seems most people aren't actually serious about a Warhammer 40,000 movie.

70 minutes? I wanted 170 minutes.....

OT:C'mon Uriel make me happy

No not Ultramarines. Even Dark Angels would be better. Although if the Legion of the Damned make an appearance I couldn't care less what chapter it was really about.

Orks would be the best enemey. Endless possibilties of awesome one liners coming from Da Boyz.

Hmmm, interesting news....

I wonder if they'll actually make this or it'll be stuck in development hell for eternity and a day.
