Would be better if it was based on the origins of the Blood Ravens which we know so little about, ah well.Earnest Cavalli said:Warhammer 40,000 To Become CGI Film

Do you love weaponized chainsaws, nearly fanatical militarism and vaguely Roman class hierarchies? Then you're no doubt giddy that tabletop gaming mainstay Warhammer 40,000 is finally getting the movie treatment in the upcoming Ultramarines.
While I'm hoping for an extremely high-concept film about the trials and tribulations of tiny pewter figurines, the feature-length CGI film probably hews closer to typical action movie ideals, especially since the movie's official site [http://ultramarinesthemovie.com/news] describes it as a "70 minute sci-fi thriller."
Unfortunately, that's the most descriptive the site gets, but anyone who has played Warhammer 40,000 (or, for that matter, StarCraft) can probably guess that Ultramarines will include, in no particular order, tons of violence, latern-jawed, hypermasculine soldiers in oversized body armor, and legions of (most likely) unfriendly Orks.
No release info has yet been offered for the film. Actually, all we really know for sure is the title and that it is being produced as a joint project by Games Workshop and British film studio Codex Pictures (the same people behind the Lego Bionicle DVD movies). You can fill in all the other details with your own imagination, though I understand how hard that might be without the aid of a few hundred tiny metal figurines.

The Space Marines are meant to be a balancer for the Imperial Guard. You know, sort of like how Halo's Spartans are to the rest of the UNSC: small in number, insane in power, both feared and revered.CantFaketheFunk said:I like parts of 40k. It's supposed to be over the top, geez. all people ever look for in anything anymore is pure HUMAN EMOTIONS!! Well here is a fact... humanity sucks, give me my over the top super soldier/Knights Templar instead. If you don't walk in with that kind of mentality, then you won't like it...
Some over the top stuff is cool. I personally just find it irritating in 40k most of the time.
The point of 40k is that once you've picked your faction, you're supposed to work up a good frothy killfrenzy against all other factions, so that you can more effectively beat their asses on the table and enjoy it.CantFaketheFunk said:I like parts of 40k. Usually with fire.Amnestic said:What? Space Marines believe in demons and they're told instructed regularly that they're EVIL and must be PURGED.
People are used to viewing their infantry as a fighting force, rather than just ablative armour for tanks.Major Tom said:The Imperial Guard aren't as much of an underdog as you think, what they lack in superhuman terms is more than made up for with big guns. They aren't called the sledgehammer of the Emperor for nothing.
I played Guard at epic scale. Epic Guard means that your core force choice is a 10 strong Leman Russ company, backed up by Basilisks and Manticores. Literally nothing can throw as many dice at a problem close up as a Leman Russ company, and the only thing that can outshoot them overall at their full range is a Broadside team.Major Tom said:Well, clearly you don't play guard, do you!GloatingSwine said:People are used to viewing their infantry as a fighting force, rather than just ablative armour for tanks.
In any case, I didn't mean to come off as 'tankstankstankstankstankstankstanks'. An all infantry force can quite easily summon enough firepower to use the age old battlecry of 'OVERUSE OF EXCESSIVE FIREPOWER!' An infantry platoon out guns a Space Marine devestator squad by quite a large margin, and you can take 6 of those in a standard battle formation and still have room for tanks.
But it is the tanks that the Guard are usually most noted for, both their number and plethora of variants to choose from. And I do like tanks. I sat down to make up a 'stuff-to-buy' guard list if ever those oft-rumoured plastic greatcoats become a reality, and I had trouble choosing which tanks to cut from a standard battle force.......
if you mean that that is all they're about as in they believe that then you are correct,if you think that is all they believe in and all there is to them then you are wrong.CantFaketheFunk said:Which part of that is incorrect? They are genetically engineered supermen who have century-long lifespans, they're all about BURN THE HERETIC AND THE MUTANT FOR THE EMPERAH to the point of fanaticism. That's what it's been like in any WH40k games I've seen, that's the sort of thing all the 40k fanboys post in threads, etc.DisturbiaWolf13 said:i think you either dont listen to the background behind 40k or you've been shown some pretty bad examples.CantFaketheFunk said:...would I have an easier time relating to normal humans (albeit rednecks and prisoners) than I would genetically engineered supermen who live hundreds of years and are slavishly devoted to their emperor to the point where "fanaticism" is far too soft a word to describe it?hansari said:You have an easier time relating to rednecks and prisoners?CantFaketheFunk said:Bah, 40k space marines are so boring.
What sort of obscure past did The Funk rise from?
Yes. Yes I would.

And there are about a billion more interesting little chapters out there. Relictors, Soul drinkers, Rainbow marines...
