I've found that shopping at places that arnt a games workshop is the way to go. Sure the range isnt gonna be as good but you'll end up getting stuff for $10 less.

Now GW arnt all bad.. The starter set that they have now, its got a tactical squad, gene stealers and some other shooty 'nids + terrain + rules (it only has the core rules..none of the other stuff thats in the big thick one) all for $85.

Ha now I got this at another game shop and got all that PLUS paints and a paintbrush for $80.. I think that worked out quite well =P

I think im gonna pick up a Predetor today ^^

There's a double page in the new English White Dwarf of a Space Marine Necron fight (artwork) that says:

A New Era Begins

Think this is them gearing us up for the announcement of 5th Ed. Apparently the store managers are going on a seminar soon to get their first look too.

How old is 4th ed anyway? My total guesstimation says it's being brought to an end much faster than 3rd.
Wild speculation on why, anyone?

Money!
The new edition is going to shake up army structure as only troops choices will count as scoring. So more troop choices bought re-structuring etc. Sell more products and the new armies which are built around the new rules.
My guess is that it will be on pre-sale at Games Day UK like all the big new releases (not exactly hard to guess i know).

Hmmm.... Never played. Wouldn't mind trying, but I don't have anyone to play with. All my friends like videogames, but rarely play other types. I enjoyed D&D the only time I tried it; but I just never had the opportunity to do it again. Kind of sucks.

No they really didn't. I'm saying the Eldar gave them a challenge for a bit because the necrons were disorganised, then before they could get organised the eldar royally fucked up the warp and the C'tan decided "Screw this shit I'm going to bed. Wake me when things are interesting." So more of a "we'll be back and kick your ass" then a "damn, you guys had us beat."
See!! It's all the Eldar's damn fault! If it weren't for them, there wouldn't be the Warp. If it weren't for them, there wouldn't be Slaanesh! It's all their bloody fault :p
Well you're mostly right there. It was Eldar and Co, all the races created by the Old ONes but since the Eldar are the only ones still prominent they get the flak. Oh, and Slaanesh was all their fault. Decadent bastards.

This feeling... is it anticipation or indigestion?

I've always been an "alien-lover" in KOTOR terms in the 40K universe. The Imperium has just become too big and convoluted. I've got about 2,000 points of Tau, and my army kicks ass. I've always liked the Tau Empire the best. They're the valiant underdogs of the galaxy that always come out stronger and wiser despite all the odds. They aren't prodded into battle like the Guardsmen, and they don't have to worry about arbitrary commissarial executions on the field. ;)

Still, even ripping people apart with pulse fire and railguns can get a bit boring after a while, so I'm thinking about starting up an Eldar army. I'm really excited it. They may be tough for a beginner, but their aspect warriors are the most deadly forces in the galaxy if given their specialization. Also, many Tau tactics can be transferred to Eldar.

No! Do not support the darkness that is the Eldar! Give in to your inner predator, and give the tyranids a try. The good news about that is with 5th edition coming out soon, you'll be able to get a lot of the Battle for Macragge starter sets for cheap.

...on second thought, stick with the Eldar. Leave the inexpensive Tyranids for me and my fellow Hive-Minders.

In all seriousness though, you should try the Eldar. They are a nasty army if they're played correctly.

Ooo, hadn't noticed this. Dark Eldar all the way baby. Them an orks. I dunno!

Incubi are among my favourite units ever, but I once sat through a chaos Obliterator (I believe it's called. Demolisher maybe? Basically a large chappy covered in guns.) shattering my tank forces single handedly. I cried.

Necron player here. Or at least I used to be. Easy to paint, hard to kill. Also, they can pretty much blow up anything.

Mercanery guard commander Kamenev Drang (tell me the references there and you win a small prize). I have a nice IG commando force (1500 points) for purely fluff basis, and my 'battle' army must be pushing 3000 points without a baneblade (which is unfluffy for renegades).

The hammer of the Emperor for hire.

My 2 cents...

Yes the 5th edition has come out quite soon after 4th - its only been a couple (3-4) of years. From what I can gleam theres going to be a lot of simplification of the rules i.e. only 1 damage chart for vehicles, universal fleet of foot etc

This is for me where the problem lies. GW is losing money and has been since the LoTR films finished. Its a public company so you can go and see how much they are losing a year. They need to attract new players and they don't want to have a game which is overly complex and puts people off so make it simple. Only problem is that all of players like me who like a bit of complexity but not on the scale of warhammer are put off. Secondly, they don't have the knack of grabbing new players - take the Tau and how they were suppose to break into the Far Eastern market with them which failed miserably.

This has been happening for years - the new Chaos codex is a recent example. The removal of the armoury and the cults simplified everything. No more can you make a bad ass chaos lord.

As for Warhammer well its always tempted me rules wise but the quality of the models is appalling. Theres this new style of dynamic modelling which seems to be taking over the studio and it basically sucks. The High Elf dragon and Vampire count on horseback are so similar its unbelievable.

Yeah, that would be the Obliterators. I hate fighting those buggers, but love their backstory. Think of it kinda like this: Imagine if Bruce Banner was caught in the gamma bomb explosion, and just happened to be in a millitary armory during that time.
