They have a very specific agenda; Pissing people off till someone physically assaults one of them, then they sue and take the money to fund the spread of their pretend Jesus-babble. I've met Fred. It's not pretend. I respect him more than the apologeticists. Sure his view may be hateful, but he's taking scripture to heart. He doesn't ignore the disgustingly immoral portions of his religion like 99% of theists do. I disagree entirely with him, but goddamn if he doesn't fully believe.

I would challenge the bat-shit insanity portion of their beliefs. Considering how often scripture has changed and been censored it's a bit of a leap to claim that anyone truly lives by scripture. Jesus tames dragons and flat out murders someone (with his divine powers) in scriptures that have been edited out.

The bigger, more massive irony is the fact that if they do actually study some form of the Bible, they must've, at one point, read that God loved everyone and he loved them all equally and that the life message of his son while on this Earth was "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You". Accoding to that, WBC apparently wants me to piss on their tombstones and shit on their caskets. BTW, I did create a thread about WBC from an inside point of view, just in case anyone is interested...

I don't think they do read the Bible themselves, on that Louie Theraux (sp?) program they were all reading from pieces of paper the pastor handed out during church services. It's entirely possible that he's not allowing them to actually read the Bible on their own, because it tells them to do literally the opposite of what he wants them to do...

I watched a Louie Theroux documentary on them recently and as Louie attempts to get a fair unbiased view on them, WBC insists on constantly telling him he's going to hell. Talk about "own worst enemy".

It's religion. All of it is bat-shit insane. A man dying and coming back to life a week later is insane. Birth without any sexual contact beforehand is insane. If you want to challenge their bat-shit insanity, you have to step up and challenge every religion. Which I dig, personally.

There isn't a gay/bi guy on earth who is bothered over whether you find gay sex 'icky' or not. Frankly, most sex is icky - I can't think of many friends, male or female, who I'd like to accidentally walk in on. The problem is when you assume that your own perception is so goddamn important that other people should have to be villified or live in accordance with your own tastes. Plenty of folks find gay sex 'icky' without being homophobic - they're the ones that are straight, but that they aren't any better or worse for that.

Or perhaps I was making a joke, and that somehow, I myself might be gay, and could possibly have been in a relationship with a guy for five years.

Irony reads poorly over the internet. Especially in one line posts - not enough context to read authorial intent, so you end up having to read it on its face value. Given the frequency with which people tend to make similar comments without humour (or without good-natured humour) taking the literal intent wasn't unreasonable.

I'll challenge anything that is insane i.e. "Has dragons in" but am willing to accept maybe Jesus knew something about medicine fixed up a guy who had been on his deathbed for a week (though I'm pretty sure thre is no mention of how long he lived afterwards) and the story got blown out of proportion.

A story that can have a real solution but got exaggerated is my means of looking at the bible. For the most part I consider Jesus to be a guy who thought things would be better if people were assholes less often and maybe just helped someone without being asked. The choirs of angels and such I'm on the fence about because Archangel Michael is pretty fucking awesome.
