This is their reasoning, my friend.

My problem with that is that the school hasn't done anything. It doesn't have a reputation for having a large homosexual population, nor is its principal a pervert. This seems very surreal to me.

Name one place that the WBC has picketed that was actually harmful to society, or had a reputation for actual evil acts of injustice and cruelty.

There haven't been any. But they all had a reason that made sense within their own twisted sense of morality. Dr. Phillips's protesting just seems pointless, as they haven't done anything to provoke them.

You don't even have to do that - they banish members (their own family members) for taking too much interest in the opposite sex. Just start getting off with a girl in front of them and it'll do the trick. Mind you, they seem to thrive on the idea of everyone going to hell, so maybe its better to think of something else.

Okay maybe this is just me but two straight dudes making out just to spite them seems like a bigger fuck you than pretty much any other combination.
Of course, I could just like in reality be this huge flamer.

Are they still at this? Last year they picketed a high school in my city on the basis that the students were "fornicating little brats". I don't think they were expecting the counter-protest they got--900 students from all over the city were standing in front of the school by the time they got there. There were cosplayers and Anonymous members with Guy Fawkes masks; signs condemning the WBC and signs with cheerfully irreverent nonsense. We basically had a gigantic party right in front of them--my sign said "GOD EMPEROR HATES HORUS", by the way--and they left after half an hour.

Sure, you could ignore them, but they're too damn brainwashed to stop, even if nobody pays attention to them. Besides, it's way more fun to freak them out. Seriously, get a bunch of friends together, make some random signs, and make fun of them until they leave.

You're first mistake is the "Oh, they're crazy why bother figuring them out" point of view. They have a very specific agenda; Pissing people off till someone physically assaults one of them, then they sue and take the money to fund the spread of their pretend Jesus-babble. That's at the heart of protesting anything that will really make them look like fucks.

I've met Fred. It's not pretend. I respect him more than the apologeticists. Sure his view may be hateful, but he's taking scripture to heart. He doesn't ignore the disgustingly immoral portions of his religion like 99% of theists do. I disagree entirely with him, but goddamn if he doesn't fully believe.

Once again the WBC reinforces my position that there should be some sort of law that makes it perfectly legal to assault someone for being stupid.

If such a law existed, we wouldn't even have problems with the WBC, everyone involved in their protests would either be consistently hospitalized or would have learned their lesson around the fifth or sixth severe beating.
