"Then you have a way out, at least." Joanna replied. For a moment she was quiet, then looked at Faro again.
"Out of curiosity... do your people believe in gods, or an afterlife?"

"My people? Uh...I'm not very religious." Faro replied, a little uncomfortable with the question.

Seras broke the water's serface and shook off some water. "Common you!" she said as she splashed some water at Samus playfully.

"Ah, I see. I only ask out of curiosity as to whether you see an alternative to undeath. If you do not believe in anything after death, then perhaps true death seems as terrible a fate as undeath, if not even more so." Joanna stared up at the sky, taking care not to look directly at the sun, though that was the object of her interest. "The people of my kingdom did believe in such a thing. If one's time had to come, then at least there was hope for them in the form of... well, whatever we believed in. Not so for those who succumb to the curse."

Seras grew partly concerned and partly annoyed with Samus, but she decided maybe it would be better to take things slowly and let the other woman ease into things. "Just come over here. The water won't bite." she said, being in about chest deep water, though considering Samus was considerably taller than Seras, she would be further out of the water.

"Well, I don't really see what's so great about the afterlife. I mean, what are the chances it would be as good as anyone says." Faro said. "I'd prefer to just try to live and be happy here and now." he concluded.

"Well, it is the promise of something new after death. Something less frightening than an abrupt end of all things. That must be worth something." Joanna suggested. She sensed that Faro was less than comfortable with the idea of discussing it however. She guessed his lack of belief in an afterlife was a contributing factor to his indifference to undeath as opposed to her own dread of it.
"You suggested committing my story to paper." She mused. "If nothing else, maybe I can make note of the people I have met here today. It may be useful. It might even allow me to record what happens from now on, if anything does."

"I told you it wouldn't hurt. Now, do you know anything about swiming?" Seras asked.

Faro nodded, not having anything to add to Joanna's last statement.

After waiting a moment to see if Faro had any further input, Joanna nodded slightly.
"Alright. I will go and do that." She rose from the sand without so much as extending her arms for balance, once again showing remarkable poise, before going to the ship's wing and feeling the back of her robe and the inner lining of her leather armour. With relief she found that the sun had dried both nicely, and gathering her weapons and clothing, she looked around for somewhere to remove her towel and put her clothes back on. Spotting a large spur of rock jutting from the low cliffs with only a narrow stack of beach rock to climb around, she decided it would be a suitably secluded spot and set off, skipping lightly from one rock to the next.

"Alright, let's go out a little farther then." Seras said as she did.

Faro watched Joanna go off. Then a group of shirtless Spanish men walked over and asked if he wanted to play volleyball. Faro thought for a moment, then took off his hoodie and shirt and went off with them.

Joanna soon came back from her improvised changing room, tightening the buckles on her sword belt and adjusting it so that the long blades hung comfortably. Having seen the others going up to the city adjacent to the beach, she decided to search there. If she could find a book merchant, she might be able to barter for a blank manuscript and quill with which to record her exploits. She made her way up the beach and crossed the road into the city.

OOC: I'm guessing we're only close to a typical tourist town, but that would probably look like a huge city to a feudal peasant, or noble or whatever Joanna is.

Not having anything else at all she could actually do, since she wasn't a magic space wizard, nor knew enough about swimming to get involved with what everyone else was doing, Vicky decided to meander out further from shore, walking along the ocean bed and showing absolutely no sign of buoyancy as she simply kept walking until her head was underwater as well.

OOC: Joanna's gonna get ran over by a car...Or arrested for walking around with knives strapped to her...

"Really? I didn't notice." Seras said as she bobbed in the water. "Anyway, lets start simply. Can you lay on your back?" she asked as she started floating on her back.
