OOC: @Sable. As to what the book actually says, in the mythos and canon of Myst it's most likely to be a description of the various objects and properties of the world. I would have to make a guess as to how it's organized throughout the book. Hebrew might be the inspiration for the text. But it's completely non-human.

ooc: @Slenn Just that general statement was all I needed, I wasn't planning on having him actually read the whole thing right now, so I don't need to know everything in it, only what you gave me, a brief description of the contents.

"I know a little of that alter. It doesn't seem affected by any sort of magic. However it seems to have no purpose. I don't think any Xiphatians built it." Savranth said to Dal'Sheen. He looks to Sable. "No, I mean what divides our people may simply be the hearts of men. My father once told me of a city that both nations built at the center of the continent. However, both nations blame the other for an attack that sparked a war that lasted eight years." He became lost in thought for just a moment.

OoC: @Furi: Best New Years ever!

As Dal'Sheed flipped through the book he highlighted certain parts, such as the amount of water and the land and where it's placed, the inhabitants that are on the surface (i.e. the humans of Earth), the geologic activity, the ecosystem and life, the sunlight as well as the stars in the night sky.

"It's a curious piece of work," he said to Savranth while flipping through the pages, "The alter had various indentations on it arranged in some sort of cross pattern."

As the drones scattered from the hit, Lyra recalled them. 2 had undamaged drones that reached her, and quickly grouped behind her to ignite their afterburners. The other 2 were too badly damaged, and instead flew to the right side of the creature and fired unsteady shots, keeping far enough away to avoid tail seipes, but reducing their weapon strength.
Lyra charged the beast, a roar escaping her as the two thick blades she carried plunged for the remaining eye, her cry almost unhearable in the water, the drones afterburners lending her huge amounts of speed.

@Salty, For sure! At first I thought those fireworks were in fact falling hellfire, but Lavos assured me they were just fireworks!

Rita again tried the shadow lance, though it seemed to be getting weaker with each casting Ugh, it needs its own incantation. she thought

"You can call me Jessica. Or Dr. Broca, if you're prefer to keep things formal." Jessica replied to Sasha. She cocked her head slightly and scratched her chin at what Sasha had said, "While I prefer to not be called 'beastkin', it is true that the sense of smell of my kind is generally better than that of humans."

She glanced over at Volarian and asked, "Is the Mess Hall serving anything with chocolate right now? I think we'd best get that out of the way before assuming there's something wrong with my head."

"So a longtime rivalry dividing the two halves of one place, one wielding one power, and the other wielding another, now why does that sound so familiar." Sable starts to sound a bit melancholy while saying this.
He quickly takes in the information from the book "I see it is quite the interesting place, and while visiting would yield more information, as you've said, that would be a bad idea. I think I shall read more later, if you don't mind."

"Yes, I've see that much. It's an odd thing, but I know not if anyone has ever tried anything with those indentations." Savranth replied, rather absentmindedly.

Volarian looks back to the Mess Hall. "Not that I know of, but the cooks may have made some as a special order for someone." He answers Jessica.

"Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't know. I'll be careful next time, Jessica." Sasha said apologetically.

"So you said you knew where they had gone or possible answers to this... situation?" Sasha asked Jessica.

As Lyra plunged her blades in the serpents remaining eye, it screamed as much as was posible underwater and violently thrashed around, the shots from the two remaining drones hitting it in random locations as the serpent moved too eratically to hit it in the same spot time and again.

In an unfortunate turn of events for the serpent, its trashing around made it so that Rita's last spear hit it right in the head, where it would have otherwise merely scraped past it had it remained still. With the spear percing its skull, the serpent was killed almost instantly. As the serpent's still-twitching body sank and eventually hit the bottom, it crushed some of the underwater houses the mermen built. But a few seconds after this, and as Chafla predicted, the serpent's body disolved, leaving a dark blue crystal behind. The serpent's body disolving also served to reveal no mermen had been crushed in their houses, as they no one appeared to be home at the time.

OoC: And with that, I'm off.

"Sure thing, when I return to D'ni for more supplies, I can pick up one or two practice Ages that I wrote when I was young, so that I don't risk anything with this book."

"If anything, those indentations look like sockets, perhaps things that fit in there like a puzzle."

Lyra pulled herself out of her berserking long enough to realize she hadn't delivered the killing blow. Grinding her teeth in anger, she flew down to snatch up the crystal, before slowly swimming to the surface.

Savranth nodded. "Agreed. But I know not what could fit in this 'puzzle'."

[hr]

As the Lyra swam to the surface a merman looked up at her from the lake bottom. He began to swim up, as well.

OoC: @Furi: Fairly deep We'll say a good 50 feet or so, for the sake of argument.

"No problem. I need to help and understand this world around me. And if that means helping others make their way back home with the sacred use of The Art, then so be it. It may take a while to learn, but in time you may be able to figure out a good description of your Castlewood Age."

"Well then, a trip to the library is most warranted. There has to be information on that alter somewhere. A long lost city, an alter that no one knows anything about... hmmm."
