Femesh Daer Coast - Day 10 - 17:42

Anik would sense the hearts of a number of creatures, ranging from birds to a couple of bears. The birds would likely be easiest to identify, while the bears would not be as easy to distinguish by sound, since the only noise they were making was the sound of footsteps. Timea, meanwhile, would have little trouble tracking a bear, by scent and by tracks, further west, around a rocky cliff.

"Well, ruling out small animals, this could have come from two types of creatures found in this area: Wolves, or bears. I can smell where it came from, but with a human nose, that wouldn't be possible, in all likelihood.

So, to find out, consider the needs and capabilities of each animal. Which would be more likely to move around, here?"
Timea responded. Shortly after, she moved on, following the tracks. "Let's move on, before it gets too far away. But think about this, in the meantime. I want to know your answer, and how you came to the conclusion."

Following Timea directly, nodding to her statement that they should hurry, Anik said, not sure, because she did not know the kind of food bears would eat: "Hmm ... I only know that we are close to the sea, and that there are some rocks here. I don't know which kind of animal would be more likely to stay here ... but I think wolves would make more sounds, especially because they would come in a pack. Are bears more likely to live along the coast?"

Walking not on the road, the ground becoming more rocky as well, Anik started to stumble a bit, but changed the position of her cane, so that she could use it to navigate. "So I am guessing that it would be bears, but I do not know enough about them to be sure."

"Well, you're right that it's a bear", Timea confirmed. "You're also right that wolves make more noise. Bears only really make noise when interacting with their young, or the young with their mother. Or when faced with danger. Another reason pointing towards a bear being the one that left the pee, is food supply. There wouldn't be any prey animals for wolves to hunt, here. Bears, meanwhile, are good fishers, so they could walk the ice out to sea, and snatch one up.

Otherwise, is the habitat itself. I honestly don't know very well how these types of bear live, but wolves make their dens in the woods. An area like this wouldn't provide any shelter for their young."

Moving over the rocky area, Timea smelled she began drew closer to her prey, and took the blanket from her waist, placing it so it covered the front of her torso, and covered it with her skin, thereafter.

Anik smiled that she had guessed correctly. "Well, that's good, I should be able to figure out if I'm in a wood or near water." she said, lightly joking. "But that means that bears are mostly invisible to me ... I would not want to hurt a mother or child. Well, I probably would not try to hunt a bear by my own anyways, so this seems well enough."

She made a mental note of the different food bears ate nonetheless, thinking it would be useful information. She followed Timea, kind of unsure if she could tap her cane or not, but walking across the rocky area, she could not really prevent her cane from hitting some rocks and making a sound, at least not until she stopped and waited.

"That's good. I have the same thoughts. Unless I'm truly desperate, I don't hunt parents or young. Taking the life of something that hasn't had much chance to live... this doesn't seem right to me. You also have the right idea on not going to hunt a bear, because as a rule of thumb; if something is larger than you, it's best to leave it alone."

Not long after saying this, Timea saw the bear in the distance, but didn't slow down yet, not close enough to spook it. "But we should be quiet, now. I see the bear", she announced, speaking in a lowered voice. "Can you sense him?"

"Sounds like a good rule of thumb. Let's just hope I am good enough at guessing the size of something by their sound." Anik said.

When Timea said they should be quiet, Anik stopped, not wanting to make more noise, and answered in an equally low voice. "Yes, I sense ... something close enough. I guess it is the bear."

"I'll go on, on my own, from here. Stay in a close to the ground, and out of the wind, as it might carry your scent to the prey. If you're not sure which way the wind blows, you can take something thin, like a piece of grass, or one of your hairs, and use it to check. If you're in a position where the wind blows towards a prey from behind you, move", Timea instructed.

After, she began moving towards the bear, moving crouched.

"Alright." Anik said quietly. She crouched down as well, and felt for a spot where she would mostly be sheltered from the wind. From there, she covered herself with some more cloth out of her bag, and took a protective position, while sitting and listening to Timea catching her prey.

Vala - Day 9 - 6:27

"Wait." Cybil called to Robin. "This is a stupid idea. We'll never find them, and even if we do, what are the chances they'll know anything we don't already? Besides, they cut ties with us awful quick, don't you think? Who's to say they're even willing to help us to begin with? Let's just figure out what to do on our own."

Western Femesh Daer Coast - Day 10 - 17:56

Moving in, Timea moved more slowly the closer she got to the bear, stopping and crouching down further when the bear looked to her direction. This would continue until she was fifty metres away, where after she stopped, figuring she wouldn't be ale to sneak up any closer.

Timea waited until the bear had her back turned to her, then moved closer at a quickened pace. The bear picking up on this after a short while, turned around, and let out a threatening growl. When this didn't do anything to make Timea back off, when she was close, the bear raised on its hind legs to try and pin her down.

Timea then took hold of the bear's forelegs, and kept it at a far enough distance to keep it from biting, and pushed it over, moving besides it with one hand still on the paw, and moving the other on-top of its chest, punning it down, instead.

With her prey pinned down, Timea fired the energy-sapping beam at it, making a noise that sounded like a low, overdriven saw wave ring out. She continued this until the bear's body was too weak to sustain itself, leading to its death.

Successful, Timea gave a silent prayer, then began moving back to Anik, dragging the bear behind her.

Listening to what Timea was doing, Anik imagined herself in Timeas place, with a more agile kind of approach to fight the bear. She closely listened to what kind of noise Timea was making, but not hearing anything aside from the occasional damp sound, did not worry too much. Hearing the beam after a time, Anik knew that it could not come from a bear, but at the same time wondered what exactly Timea had done.

Hearing and sensing Timea walk back towards her, Anik stuffed the cloth she had piled on herself back into the bag and stood up again. Smiling, she said into Timeas direction: "You were successful, I presume?"

"I was. He wasn't particularly big, but it'll be enough to satisfy my hunger for the morning" Timea answered, stopping, and hoisting up the bear overhead, so Anik could get a sense of its mass. It was large, but a bit on the small side for a polar bear, weighing in at just a little over 400kg.

If Anik clicked, Timea would lower the bear again, after she did. "So, shall we head inland, now?"

"That's good." Anik said, although she would have liked it more if Timea had found an even larger bear, to last her for longer. She clicked, and felt its fur where Timea was holding it. "So soft ..." she commented, but let go when Timea lowered it again.

"Alright." she responded, picking up her things. "I just hope we will come across a road at some point ... I can't prevent all stumbling with my cane."

With that, she followed Timea further inland.

"If we want to get them home we'd have to find them eventually... But we do have the library right here..." Robin thought. "I'm unsure, but I have a feeling taking a while will decide so we could stay here and see what we can find in the meantime anyway."

"Not necessarily. It's been, what, a week or so since we last saw them? They could have found a way back on their own. Which would just make looking for them an even bigger waste of time if it were true." Cybil pointed out. "I was probably a bit too quick to dismiss what might be found in the library, I'll admit."

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 17:57

"Well, we won't be near one when hunting for you. But following the road to Mathan Daer will bring us to the mountains we're looking for", Timea pointed out. "While on the topic of the mountain; I don't suppose you've ever climbed one, before?"

She kept the blanket covered while moving, so that the heat wouldn't sear her meal, prematurely.

Femesh Daer Area - Day 10 - 17:57

"Yes, it's fine for hunting. I just hoped that I would not need to walk offroads the whole time. Which does not seem to be the case. So that's good." Anik said. After thinking for a bit, she added: "Actually I have climbed before. Just not mountains ... I did climb buildings, though. I guess it will be different ... no steady patterns I could orientate myself with. ... but at least I can't stumble if I climb with all four of my limbs."

Even though Anik did indeed hit her foot on a rock a few times, it never seemed to affect her too much, as the boots were sturdy enough to keep her from harming her feet, and she had a good enough balance to keep herself from stumbling.

"Might as well have a look." Robin headed back to the library, ruminating on the possibility they had already gone with a grim expression.
