You sigh, thinking up a long and very explicit string of curses before replying in a more stern tone; "Alright, it seems I have no choice but to admit that I have another reason for wanting the info back. Steam power has dangerous military applications, because with it you can make ships that do not care where the wind blows, or how tired the rowers are. If you keep it, I wont have a choice but to give the same to the Kaisir, so that they can defend themselves. I would really prefer not to, because I honestly don't know what consequences it will have. So please, give is the notes and you'll get your money back."

Yeager frowned as he leaned against the ships rails. Something felt off about the ship that he couldn't quite put his finger on. He thought for a moment before it came to him. He called out to one of the workers "Hey, what's the wildlife like here?"

After speaking with the father, Anik headed outside. She was kind of glad the priest had given her the information so willingly. It probably had not done much good to get the information by force, when a creature of justice was so close.

With the city full of hearts, there was no chance she would get another nap in this place. But she still felt drowsy, the vodka had not allowed her to sleep enough. So she headed out of the town, into the desert, hoping to find more peace there, even if she would feel the hearts of smaller animals.

Sibylla gasped and quickly withdrew her hands from the water and hastily slithered backwards as Timea mentioned predators might be in the river. She made a pouting face at Timea when she mentioned the currently present river was probably not dangerous after the fact.

A look of realisation spread across the merchant's face, and he sighed. "Now I understand your concerns. I hadn't considered that this technology could be used to invade the island nations." he said. "War would be terrible for business... very well, you can have the notes back. Though, you should know that the Kaisiri would have access to this information, through the naval libraries." He turned and headed back inside, returning shortly with EMily's notes. "You can keep the money, if you want. Even if we don't use the steam technology for our boats, the information about the scientific method and so on could still help."

"The wildlife? Well, it's pretty big a lot of the time. And a lot of the animals around here eat other animals. Not much else to eat, after all." one of the workers responded.

Nighttime.

You thank the merchant, very relieved and grateful that he agreed to hand over the notes. Even more so as you were afraid you'd have to use more aggressive means to recover them. You then ask if you and your comrades, if they wish, could perhaps be allowed to work for the payment, more specifically on the river barges. With a hint of a smile you say that you're not much comfortable being given money, and that you're a good rower and fighter.

OoC: If you guys don't want that last bit, we can take it out/only have Shara do it. I just thought it would be an interesting way to advance the story.

"Well, I don't run the river barges, but I'm sure they wouldn't say no to the offer." the merchant replied.

EMily blinked her eyes confusedly, but somewhat satisfied that they would be looking into the scientific method. That and it turned out far more peacefully than expected.

She was almost tempted to say something along the lines of "Are you sure you don't want the notes?" Instead she said:

She took the rest of the notes, save for the intro and chapter on the scientific method.
"Well, then keep the chapter on the scientific method. Almost everyone can use it. It's a philosophy and a tool that guarantees wisdom. Make sure this circulates to the scholars and see what they think."

"Big. Right. I suppose they are not a threat to you though? No escort ships or anything... and what do you mean there isn't much else for them to eat?"

As she moved out of the city, and subsequently got Timea within her sensing range, Anik would be greeted by the opposite of a small heart. She would sense the soul being vast in both size and age, going past ancient, and straight into prehistoric. Morality-wise, Anik would find Timea's sense of right and wrong being quite bizarre, and in many cases, seemed paradoxical. She could be altruistic at one moment, and borderline callous, the next. She had a strong sense of justice, but her heart was also full of hatred and loathing. Lastly, she had almost no sense of pride.

"Aww. You look cute as a bug's ear, looking flustered like that~" Timea cooed upon seeing Sibylla making a pouty face, twirling her finger around once, then giving Sibylla a light poke in the chest. "Gave you a little scare, did I?"

The merchant nodded, and handed the rest of the other notes over to EMily. "Thank you."

"Not while we're in the water, no." the worker replied. He then waved a hand, indicating the desert around the river, lacking much in the way of vegetation. "I've never seen anything eat sand, and that's basically everything that's out here that isn't an animal."

You thank the merchant again, then begin to head away back towards the meeting point. For a moment, you stumble as you find yourself closing your eyes, but you jolt back awake. Once out of earshot of the merchant, you look back and tell the others; "Well, that went better than I expected. And now we can even afford a few rooms at an inn. I don't know about you guys, but I'm about to fall asleep standing."

"You're most welcome. And thank you for your time. Good night gentlemen." She left the merchant's guild along with Shara and the others.

"Likewise. They were most generous and understanding. And now they even have a potentially new philosophy in the near future, and they'll be able to discover new data all on their own with it." She searched her satchel and retrieved the pouch of coins. "Let's see here. I didn't count the money from earlier, but it wouldn't hurt to count." She looked into the coin pouch and gently dumped the contents into her other hand.

"How very different from what I'm used to. Where I'm from a barge like this with no protection wouldn't get a mile out before one or two nasty critters decided to pay a visit." replied Yeager.

EMily would count 16 gold coins in the the pouch. She would likely remember that each was worth 24 silver coins, and two silver coins had gotten her a room and food at the local inn.

"Wouldn't want to live there." the worker commented. The other looked around, a little worried.

Heno had followed the others, because their purposeful stride made him think something important must be happening. Something had been bugging him quite a bit through out all the time he spent standing there. "... Am I the only wondering what steam power is!"

Meanwhile a couple of guards would be finding a couple of criminals tied up in an alleyway. One appeared to have been pepper sprayed, and the others had more than a few bruises on them, one of them also had a broken nose. A note had been left on them that read "I'm cleaning up the streets, Friend or Foe?" At the bottom it said signed with the silhouette of a bat next to it.

"Let's see so there's 16 gold coins. Each coin was worth 24 silver. So 16 times 24 is..."
After some number crunching by making hand squiggles in the air...

16*24 = 320 + 64 = ...

"384 silver. Equivalent to.... 192 nights at the local inn. And it covers food as well."

Robin listened intently when Shara mentioned military applications talking to the merchant. As they walked away, he looked to EMily. "An inn sounds like a good idea to me, and we certainly have the cash to spare."

Yeager smirked as he noticed the one worried rower. "Oh ja, it's positively nightmarish. I've seen beasts three stories tall. Creatures that can only be repelled, never killed. Birds of prey as big as this ship. Carnivorous fish that jump into boats. You name it, I've seen it... but I'm sure you're right, this place seems safe enough." said Yeager, stretching as he finished talking.

You glance over at Heno and tell him that steam power works by heating up water until it boils, then harnessing the power of the vapour. You admit that you don't know the specifics, since the technology is ancient where you're from.
