Probably a sabre, either a Kilij or scimitar which are both Arabic forms of it.

I'll just use throwing knives. If I can throw them accurately, I'll win before they reach me. ^_^

Hmmm.
Then id go with Light Armor, a Large Shield, and a Claymore.

Armor for insurance, Shield for battering and blocking Weapons and Throwing Weapons, Claymore for messing S*** up.

I saw the thread title, and thought of Christopher Walken.

OT: My weapon of choice would be... MY MIND.

You said it we weren't ourselves, and that it was assumed that we know how to use it.

Therefore, I can use my mind as a weapon. Would this entail mind powers or just tactical brilliance? I say both.
Aw man, you beat me to it. But seriously, who wouldn't want to beat the shit out of a gladiator with nothing but mind powers. I wonder if you could cook a man inside his armor with pyrokinesis...

Give me a quarterstaff any day. Where was that line...

?During his lifetime, Jearom fought over ten thousand times, in battle and single combat. He was defeated once. By a farmer with a quarterstaff! Remember that. Remember what you just saw.?

-Hammar, The Dragon Reborn

It has good reach, is easy to control, and is very easy to block and parry with.

A rapier. Light and quick, plus oh so deadly when you poke people in the squishy parts. A little bit boring, but it'd get the job done.

Or a lightsaber! They do come from a long long time ago.

A pair of metallic gauntlets, and martial arts training.

Why?

Martial arts training is pretty obvious. The gauntlets would be for blocking and batting aside metal weaponry, like swords and axes, without losing a finger or two.
