James didn't really want to hang around the room with only Angela and Damien in there, who knew what the hell kind of problem those two had so James rapidly fled the premises and moved along to his next class. Without any volatile displays of magic, the next classes passed without much incident. James payed attention in magical theory, going as far as to take notes, considering the subject was magic it was unsurprising he could finally concentrate. Magic Applications was a little more amusing as James got to crush a mandrake with a mortar and pestle. After some original concern they would be screaming or trying to posess his mind he happily got on with the task.

With the classes over, James didn't really know what to do, part of him just wanted to explore all over the school but when he noticed a few of classmates all seemed to be headed towards the library and figured he should go there too. After all, he probably should find a spell that was acceptable to use in civilised company.

Of course this was easier said than done, big library's baffled James at the best of times and the Cascade High Library was indeed massive. James was soon wandering between shelves, pulling random books, reading nonsense out aloud from them and moving on. Occasionally the random page he would flick open had something of interest to him but for the most part it was all useless to him. So James just kept wandering, muttering under his breath and humming random tunes as he strolled about.

"Sure" grinned Will, "By the way, do you know where I can find out about that Mo plate that got Damien all shook up? I figure anything that crazy must be worth looking into"

Damien was busy beating on a punching bag, getting himself ready for this year's boxing season, making sure he hadn't gotten rusty over the summer break after doing little but magic and strength training. Just then, his phone rang. It was an unknown number, which started the jazz jingle Damien used to know if a call was an emergency or not. "Dammit, do they memorize my schedule or something?" Damien grabbed his undershirt and chain belt as he answered the call. "Yeah, I'll be right there! Hang on a moment." Damien holstered his cell phone and brought out his plate. "Snowrunner!" And so the chase was on. Damien raced past group after group of people, trying to catch up with the delinquent who was also using speed magic. "Bastard, when I catch you, you are so doing the yard. I will personally make sure you get nothing but scissors."

Finally catching up to the speedster, Damien prepared himself for his next trick. "Quick Out!" Damien commanded, the plate rocketing back into his hand as Damien scooped his board back into his bag and threw his belt at the speeding student, still flying with his momentum. "Chain Gang!" Damien called, extending the chain to catch the magic abuser. This served to slow both of the two racers to slow down to a safe halt, at which point Damien planted his feet and reeled the errant freshman in like a fish on a line. Damien began to drag the kid to Mr. Rei's office, located right next to the library. "No using magic outside of designated areas. No using it to fight, either." Damien threw the kid into the office. "Hey Mr. Rei. This kid was caught trying to run away after starting a fight. Also, I think the yard could use some clipping. And apparently this kid is quite a dab hand with scissors, if magic is anything to go by." Damien walked out of the room with a sigh and into the library.

Immediately, Damien saw Kelsey get flustered by his presence. "Relax, relax, I'm off duty now. Just trying to catch up on personal studies- and regain some dignity. Oh, hey there, Will." Damien walked pointedly towards the nonfiction and phone directories section, one that was never used. Removing the 1921 phone directory, Damien grabbed one of his private stashes of clothing. He had multiple such location all throughout the school, as this wasn't the first time would be abusers time their crimes to Damien working out or getting in a shower. A stash was located here due to the sheer amount of delinquents who tried to hide among the shelves that rivaled the Library of Congress. Damien quickly changed back into his normal attire, emerging from the bookshelves a bit more decent than before. Damien headed back into the restricted section, flashing his MEC plate to get through. Due to the now largely self-study aspect of his magical studies, Damien had been allowed access into the restricted magical section of the library to keep up with his studies. Damien brought out several large tomes focused on servant class magic and area effect magic. "Perhaps this is what I needed to finally find that damn Jabberwocky." Damien sighed. "Maaann, what I wouldn't give sometimes to just be able to relax for just an hour without some punk wasting my time." He muttered under his breath. Shaking his head, Damien opened the dusty old tome carefully. Only then did he notice Sophie in front of him. "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you there. I guess I really am losing it." Damien said with a chuckle. "Anyways though, I'm glad to see apparently all of you already so interested in learning magic. Anything I can help you with?"

While Sofia was waiting, she suddenly found herself face to face with her teacher, Damien. Or she would have if he had noticed her. He seemed a bit too lost in thought to realize that she was there, but eventually he looked up and saw her. "Oh! H-hello um... Mr. Lier. You don't have to be sorry, I know I'm not very... noticeable these days."

She paused for a good while, and considered his question. There were probably a good number of things Damien could help her with, but she couldn't take up all his time like that. Just a simple glance at this massive library told her that she still had a lot to learn and even more that she would probably never learn. It was a bit overwhelming. There were a million questions she could have asked Damien, but none seemed quite as important as this one. "Well... I feel like I've stepped into a whole other world here.... Where do I even start?"

"By the way, do you know where I can find out about that Mo plate that got Damien all shook up? I figure anything that crazy must be worth looking into"

"I was actually going to look that up for myself later... I've never even heard of it so I'm, uh, not too sure there will be much about it... I'd have to check the compendium to be sure..." She really didn't want to have to check the compendium. It was the one major flaw in the library that only continued to exist because no-one could or would replace the magic it used with something better. It worked, to an extent, but just thinking about it made her head begin to hurt. "But I still need to, um, catalogue all these book so I won't be able to do that until tomorrow really..."

From the front desk she could see anyone coming into the library, and more people arrived. James, oddly enough, was among them. She imagined he would be the type to wander around a bit before hitting the books. When Damien arrived she got a little worried. "Relax, relax, I'm off duty now." He hand-waved her concern away, though with how the MEC attracted trouble there was no promise that trouble wouldn't soon show.

She turned her attention back to Will, "I'll, uh, tell you about it once I get time to find it..."

"Sweet, thanks. I'll go find get what I came for then..." he said, as he turned away and headed into the library, following the map. Once on the second floor, he looked down to see James wandering the shelves below.

With a smirk, he prepared his Tricks of the Eye spell, and with it made it look as if a whole shelf of book had suddenly fallen off the shelf right above James' head.

James was still peacefully strolling along when he grabbed a book off the shelf and began flicking through the pages.

"Magi babble, more magi babble, magi babble that isn't even in a recogonisable tongue but I'm sure it's magi babble all the same." Then his muttering was suddenly interrupted by that little shiver you get when magic is nearby, James spun and looked up to the shelf above and saw to his horror a whole shelf of books falling towards his head. James swore loudly and threw his hands up over his head to protect himself.

Seconds passed and nothing happened, James opened his eyes and saw the books were still safely on their shelves.

"What in the devil? Whose trick was that?" James looked around frantically searching for the one responsible.

Still watching from above, Will suppressed a laugh and flexed a mental muscle. The books that had just pretended to fall on James were, on close inspection, all of rather unlikely title. The Life and Death of J Cullis, Magician was one, and another was James Cullis: A Guide for the Theologian. Indeed, the only text not devoted to James was a small, modestly bound book called A Jester's Text by one M. Fernaux.

Damien sighed. "Geez, why so formal? I'm one year older than you guys- I'm not a teacher yet. Please, just call me Damien. Most everyone else does." Damien shrugged as he said this, though he ended up grinning after hearing Sophie's question. "That is probably the best question you can ask. Unfortunately, it's also the only one that I can't answer. I can tell you how I did it though: I started out small. Just some simple things, maybe you wanna learn more about something you heard in class that I was t able to go over fully. So you research that, only to find out that you need to learn something else to understand the first thing. Maybe this leads you to a spell you think suits you, but this way will lead you to what you want to know about, and things that you couldn't even dream of. Sooner or later, you'll get to things like this." Damien spun around a tome showing a spell of what looked like Mickey Mouse in the infamous scene from Fantasia. Damien's hairs raised on the back of his neck. Considering that he had gone into the library to escape his duties, he was suitably annoyed. "Whoever is performing magic outside of the designated area better stop now. I promise I won't come after you. This rule is in place to protect the library itself. There is a small room near the entrance for you to test a new spell, should you care to continue."

Samuel frowned, and sighed. Bureaucracy had messed with him, for nobody gave him a class schedule (probably because they didn't know he existed until they looked at the student list for the previous cycle), he'd been under the impression that he hadn't been assigned classes, and therefore never needed to leave his little library fortress. People that frequented the library knew, there was one table that he was always at, you could sit there, even talk to him, but it was HIS table. It was simply accepted by the fact he never seemed to have anything else to do, and people didn't really mind that he kept to himself until approached.

Which is probably why the student council rep that came to alert him that he was missing classes wasn't entirely comfortable, knowing that nobody had ever honestly attempted to REMOVE Sam from his table, not even the people he sometimes gave light tutoring too for some money to spend on his independent studies, and more often study food and drink.

Great. Some nervous wreck is trying to bug me into leaving and peacocking around some class, wonderful. It's not like I'm all that. I'm surprised they even remembered to put me ON the student lists for last cycle, much less anyone noticed my name. Well, might as well, no sense making work for myself trying to attract that... Darren.. Dorkian... Darpain... Derrien... That MEC guy...

Sam finished the online product order for a casual maroon longcoat that was actually completely plain, and had many book pockets, and smiled at his soon to be enhanced obsessing ability. Then he gathered his notes, logged out of the school system, and went back to his dorm. Somebody might come around to his lonely coed dorm room, where his previous roomate moved up and it was currently only occupied by one plus books, resided, to talk to him about responsibility and magic or whatever thinking he'd been playing hookey.

Hey. I was recently accepted, and the GM said he'd be posting my sheet. This looks awesome, and feel free to PM me about doing social stuff about Sam, because it will most likely end up hilarious.

James heard Damien's shout and quickly hurried to reply with an equally loud shout.

"That wasn't me! You'd know if it was because there'd be smoke and screaming and oh why am I yelling in the library!?" James thankfully fell silent and thought on his attack, some books about a magician had- wait! The Life and Death of J Cullis!?

"So you know my name eh?" James was just talking to himself loudly at this point, maybe the book was a coincidence but James struggled recall the other titles of the books, he had barely had more than a quick glance at them before he shielded himself.

Sofia nodded as she listened to Damien's advice and thought about how it applied to her. She quickly jotted down a reminder to herself to go through her notes again and see if she could find any other subjects she wanted to go into more detail with like he had suggested. "I see... Thanks uh... Damien. That does seem like a good place to start and I'll definitely try that out. I guess I just have a hard time imagining myself being able to do things like that or growing a tree out of nothing like Angela... you know?"

She had barely gotten the words out when Damien began yelling at a student for using magic, and heard what sounded like the voice of James yelling back. She wasn't particularly surprised that someone like him was using magic where he shouldn't be. Although Damien knowing about it even though he couldn't see what was going on was a bit surprising. "Can you... sense when people are using magic? That's pretty cool."

Angela stalked along the paths of the school as she thought about what had happened earlier that day. "Oh sure. He says he won't screw up. And I really believed it." She proclaimed to herself. "Maybe Damien really was turning over a new leaf. And what does he do right after? Why he beats up a pair of guys right in the classroom." She let out an agitated breath as she drew close to the dorms.

"Well I guess he really can't change that little caveman brain of his." She continued to rant to herself under her breath as she continued. "Still, I guess it was a good try. 'be the first to admit my way is not the best' what a load. Can't believe he even had me going there for a moment."

However Angela's tirade quickly wound down when she thought she saw a familiar face. "Hey, was that..?" She changed direction, heading towards the person she thought she saw.

People were using magic in the library and illusionary shelves were falling down and they were yelling and that ever-present twist in her stomach wound itself tighter with each thing. Was this going to be the way every day here in the library from now on would unfold? Kelsey hoped not. She didn't even want to think about what might happen if she had to deal with that...

Hopefully Damien's warning would stop whoever from using magic again...? Please, please let that be so.

Entering into the cozy apartment he called his dorm, Samuel went into his kitchen to grab some chips and salsa, leaving his door propped open both for air, and in anticipation of teachers or MEC coming to try and lecture him, he opened his netbook and started surfing the web on a couch like chair, around a left corner.

The dorm wasn't a bad place to live, the coed dorms are basically a choice of getting nicer rooms at the risk of sharing your apartment with another gender. It was a six room apartment, plus closets, and honestly, the lavatories. There was a shared bathroom that had an actual bath, and other than that the kitchen/living room was cozy and a dining room. A couch and two comfortable chairs on a coffee table, and a decently sized flatscreen. The kitchen consisted of a microwave over an oven, two counters, and on row of four large cabinets. Tackboards and complex magic theory diagram posters and some decorative posters plastered the walls, half of which were empty to the butter yellow painted walls, the former domain of his now absent roomate. Sam laid back and turned some soccer on on the television while eating, the first time He'd used the wonderous brainmelter in months.

I figured since the school is magical and absurdly rich, they'd house the students of Mass Destruction in pretty nice places, and he did say these were the coed quarters, so he'll eventually have to share this with a freshman/sophomore. Should allow me to stay in character while introducing Sam to the group.

James decided it was probably a good idea to leave the maze of shelves as soon as possible, beofore he was either attacked again or thrown out of the library. As he winded his way back into the shelves that were closer to the main entrance he finally spotted a book of some interest to him "Simple Spells to Shock Your Friends." He took it off the shelf and quickly made his way over to the front counter and put it down.

"Hello there...," he thought for a moment and recalled her name, "Kelsey! Could I please borrow this book out?" James casually looked behind him and saw both Damien and Sofia also in the library. The library must be a popular place here, well considering it was full of magic that was unsurprising. He then turned back to the front and smiled apologetically.

"Oh sorry about the shouting by the way, just some nasty business involving various books suggesting my own death falling from the arboreal verdance. Oh wait, arboreal verdance, that's trees isn't it? I_" James trailed off into a string of confusing muttering, seemingly forgetting he had come here to borrow a book out.

Damien spun the tome around to face him once more. He grinned at Sophie's question. "As zen as my explanation's gonna sound, yeah, I can. Your body instinctively walls itself off from magic because this is your first day here. However, sooner or later, as your body acclimated itself to the magic, it opens up little by little. At a certain point, you're able to feel the magical waves and the disturbance in them when someone casts a spell. Courtney told you guys about how spells bend magical waves to affect the world around you, right? This is also the reason why if you and Angela copied the same spell, hers would be stronger, even if you got a Rubidium plate right now. Anyway, Most of the higher ranked students can do this trick. My ability is just a little more well used though, so my radius is larger for this trick. It's not nearly what I would need to cover the whole sprawlin' school, though." Damien leaned back in his chair as he once more though of how damn useful that would be, especially considering he was all alone in the MEC, and no one else wanted to join- among the qualified, that is. Damien opened a servant class tome, and began cross checking it whimsy the other book he already had out, waiting for Sophie's next question.

Sofia flipped open her notebook and wrote down what Damien was saying as she was listening to him. I'm gonna need a few more notebooks if this keeps up. Then she flipped back a few pages and circled areas of interest to find more about later. "So as time goes by here, I'll be able to sense magic too then? That sounds cool. And useful." She said laughing slightly at his comment about covering the whole school. "Oh, right. You're the only one on the... Executive Committee was it? I'll bet that must suck, having to do all the work by yourself."

That got Sofia thinking, he must be REALLY busy especially if students like James were the majority rather than the minority. "Sorry to take up so much of your time... I think you gave me enough to get started, so thanks again. I'm glad I got such a helpful teacher." She said quietly while making a list of topics to research later.

"Hello there..." He seemed to drift off for a moment, "Kelsey! Could I please borrow this book out?" He handed her a copy of "Simple Spells to Shock Your Friends", a book that she was at least 90% sure was completely useless. If this was the sort of spell book he could be expected to use, maybe there wasn't as much chance of him getting a higher level plate as she'd suspected...

"Uh, yes, I'll just make a note of it..." She barely whispered the end of her sentence as she noticed James had stopped paying attention. She started jotting down various details about the exchange to put in the compendium later and put the note on a cabinet behind her.

James quickly turned his attention back to her. "Oh sorry about the shouting by the way- "It's not..." just some nasty business involving various books suggesting my own death falling from the arboreal verdance." "I, uh..." "Oh wait, arboreal verdance, that's trees isn't it? I_" Once James started to mutter to himself Kelsey had trouble getting a word in so she wordlessly shoved the book back along the desk to him.
