Damien checked the clock, noting he had about two hours before the match. Damien cancelled his magic, having gotten more than enough signatures for the MEC club. He would have to put them through their paces, but other than that, he was satisfied. Damien made his way into the secondary gym, where an adjacent room had been changed into a waiting room for Damien's fight. Cory presumably had his own as well. Damien changed into his gear and ate a small lunch. He then used his clothes for a pillow and closed his eyes, planning on resting to be fully prepared for his match. Damien soon fell asleep, grinning at his upcoming fight.
------------------------------------------------

When Damien woke up, he noticed two things: he had thirty minutes until his charity match, and Katie was leaning against the wall, measuring him up. After a quick check that nothing had been taken... Or added, Damien addressed Katie. "G'evening, school rep. May I help you?" Katie's eyes were enraged at the mere sight of Damien. "You have thirty minutes. I hope you get beaten within an inch of your life." Damien shrugged. "It wouldn't be the first time. Cory's kicked my ass 162 times. Sometimes, charity hurts- but you wouldn't know that, would you, miss UNICEF?" Katie's cheeks flared hotly at Damien's accusation. "You know that certain members of the audience have the ability to use magic in you match. You know that I'll be in the Corruptor seats, along with my supporters. You know that everyone will be against you. Why fight?" Damien stood up and stretched, warming up for a bit. "It's because you'll do all these things that I have to fight. Because otherwise, I would be nothing more than a coward, and a coward has no right to be the Branch Chief of the MEC. And most importantly, I wouldn't be me if I ran." Damien slowly shrugged on his cloak, covering himself. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a fight to get to."
------------------------------------------------
"Hmm... Damien is awfully lucky, isn't he? If being hated means all the fortune he's got, I wouldn't mind being a bit detested myself." One sophomore laughed to himself as he drew the raffle for the lucky students who would get Corruptor seats. "Check this out; it's almost entirely students from his class! We've got Kelsey the librarian, James Callis, Sophia Montesino, William F-...hell, I can't even pronounce that..., Gavren Noisha, Sam from the library, and some new kid named 'Edgar.' Too bad he's got Katie and her guys in those seats, or he would definitely win this match, hands down!" the two sophomores chuckled and went to tell the lucky winners of their role in the fight, ad of course, the free seats.
------------------------------------------------

A lucky sophomore, known to the upper class as Danny 'Lungs' Brown was the announcer for tonight, and looked the part in a full suit. "" Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 50th annual King of the Ring charity event! The two captains of the boxing and wrestling teams come together for a no holds barred slugfest, all for your entertainment! But tonight has a few special rules!" the announcer laughed as he launched into the rules. "If a contestant is down for ten seconds, he's out. Voluntary downs do no count, and hall be recorded as such. Tonight's match reflects the nature of Cascade, in that it's a magic match! The lovely ladies and gents in the first row are in the Corruptor seats, and have the sole pleasure of being able to cast any magic wished upon either or both of the two combatants. The only rules for this are that the spell in question cannot directly lead to the defeat of a fighter and cannot be possibly dangerous by itself, such as a hurricane spell. Also, the ring itself has been treated with magic to lead to some interesting situations when certain conditions are met.The only defense the combatants have is Mana Burst, to temporarily disrupt any spell. Now let's meet the fighters!" Danny took a breath before continuing. "In the blue corner, weighing in at an incredible 220 pounds, the physics-defying national wrestling champion, Cory Schultz!" Cory vaulted over the ropes, clothed in nothing but compression shorts, knee-length shorts, and wrappings to protect his hands. "And now, standing tall at over six feet, and weighing in at a jaw dropping 210 pounds, this gargantuan brought the boxing team back from the dead, bringing them to the amateur national championships. I present to you, the man with a cannon for a left, Damien Lier!" Damien stepped into the ring, and raised both gloves high into the air, prepared for war. Damien took his southpaw stance, intending to go all out from the beginning. "Gentlemen, you know the rules. No biting, no eye gouging, no groin shots. With that... LET's GET READY TO RRRRUUUUUMMMMBBBBLEEEE!!!" The bell rang, and the two titans began to circle each other like caged tigers. Damien decided to start the show with a machine gun fire of jabs almost faster than the eye could see, but only two hit before one of Katie's lackeys threw up a Barrier spell, stopping Damien from hitting Cory any more. Unfortunately, it didn't stop Cory from sweeping under Damien and throwing him across the ring. "Oh...crap. This could get ugly." Damien thought as he rose to his feet, ready to fight.

I decided to make a huge post to make up for the lack of it. You guys have an actual outcome on this match. You are free to attack or support either of the two combatants. I'll post updates. Have fun!"

Why... why was she here...? It was like her days were being made up of events and places Kelsey wanted to avoid, and she severely doubted that all of this was by chance. She remembered being told that she had been chosen as a "Corrupter", whatever that meant, by someone but then it became indistinguishable blurs of people pushing her to places and telling her to do things without her being able to say a single word in protest. She couldn't even remember everything she had been told as she was pushed into the secondary gym, although she did vaguely recall being told to use her magic. Not that that particular nugget of information helped her in any way.

The secondary gym was filled with shadowy figures and the dull murmur of pent up excitation reverberated within. She was herded towards the front and told to find a seat. There weren't too many taken so far so she was quite able to get a seat that gave a good view of the match. Not that she would appreciate this; she would much rather have researched the finer points of the Mo Plate. What she needed to do, she surmised, was carry a book around with her. She'd need to go find an interesting book later, and get a penlight to make sure she could read it in the dark.

All around there were others finding seats, voicing their anticipation for the match and sharing opinions. Once everyone had found seats they were made to wait for several minutes in near-total darkness. And then came the lights. They illuminated an arena the likes of which Kelsey had only ever read about, and a deafening roar went up among the many hundreds of students who actually did want to be here. Kelsey, rather predictably, was not among these people. She was among the people wondering what the hell was going on and getting a ridiculous headache. Was it really too much to ask to sit in the library, read a nice book and have some goddamned peace and quiet for once!?

Apparently it was, because an announcer suddenly met the crowd's roar with his own preaching of rules. The two main points Kelsey was able to extract were thus: Only people on the front row get to use magic, which explained what a Corrupter was at least, and they couldn't use anything inherently dangerous. It clicked in her mind that all she had to do was change the match's result with her magic. She grabbed her plate out of her bag, turning it over in her hand and thinking about what spell to use... Could she even afford to use one?

As she thought, the bout began. The two wasted no time in closing the gap, and Katie's group seemed just as quick to produce a Barrier spell in support of Cory. No-one came to Damien's aid. It... it kind of hurt her that no-one did. She assumed that someone here must have liked him enough to help him, but... well... apparently not. She definitely couldn't help him. While she was confident she could beat one spell, she wouldn't be able to hold against the combined strength of Katie and her group. And even if she could, she couldn't sacrifice her peace and quiet any more by picking a fight with them. She slid her plate back into her bag and refused to watch the fight any more, instead hiding behind her hat's brim.

Hours went by after his arrival, where Edgar just gave up on deciding for a club.
--------------------
On this day Edgar found himself chosen to be a Corrupter. Whatever it meant he had no idea. He got the message while perusing the library after meeting Gavren and interest sparked in him at once. Would it be a chance for him to finally use magic? Edgar anxiously waited to see what the Corrupters were for.

When the match was set to begin Edgar seated himself in the front row with other students from his class. Hearing the rules Edgar groaned when hearing the rule that the magic can't be dangerous or lead directly to a fighter's defeat. Oh well, at my level I know only a few spells that could work. The match began and Edgar held off on producing a spell until the fight began to go one way. Sure enough a Barrier spell was placed on the fighter named Cory within seconds. It caught Damien off guard and still Edgar held off on helping in case someone came to his aid first. No one did. Edgar could hardly blame them, Damien wasn't very likable at all. Still a fair fight would be more interesting to watch than this.

Edgar did notice one of the Sophomore's next to him, Kelsey who he recognized from the library, grab her plate, pause for a moment, and put it away. What's stopping her? Edgar brought out his Red Iron plate and approached the ring, I do have a small spell to use. Edgar muttered, "Vibrato" before kicking the ring and sending loud vibrations to Cory's position on the ring. The spell vibrated the area around Cory violently and would be the only sound in his ears for a few seconds.

Edgar sat back down and watched to see what would unfold next.

Samuel knew Katie, and he know she put him on the Corrupter seats. Okay then, if she wants to play. Sam nodded to Damien when he was on the opposite side of the ring has he put his plate forward and used his Wind evocation, making Damien's opponent have to trudge in order to move, if he didn't just outright fall over. If the wrestler lost this, Katie's support would falter. As for the reason Samuel just got in, is he'd put pictures of Katie with her boyfriends, in all of the other boyfriend's mailboxes, with fake letters and meeting information. By 2:37:16 AM, she would lose a good half to two thirds of her cult.

Sam had been busy since he'd gone invisible earlier.'

I know that's bad practice to just say it happened, but I lost contact with a Xero and didn't know if you wanted to keep on that plot, so I just decided to go ahead since this was always my plane for it.

Damien grinned as Cory began to stumble due to heavy winds blowing him back. He eventually had to get on all fours just to prevent being blown over. However, this plan was quickly destroyed as Edgar's Vibrato spell activated, causing Cory to lose concentration and subsequently be blown against the ropes. Damien dashed in, laying into Cory with everything he had. A left hook drew blood, and once that blood hit the floor of the ring, the rig itself began to glow and disappear, reappearing instead on the ceiling! Here Samuel's spell actually hurt Damien, causing Cory to be blown his way. Cory grabbed Damien in a bear hug and tackled him to the floor, going for a submission. Damien just let his arms hang down, towards the ground above him until the eight count. Then Damien let loose, the blood that had rushed ino his hands now hardening his fists as he forced Cory to let go with a devastating body blow. Damien decided to go in for the kill. He unleashed a left straight... That ended up right in his own gut due to Katie's own Shell Game spell. Damien was winded heavily, as he hadn't tensed his muscles at at. He had never even expected such a turn of events. Cory rushed at Damien, hoping to choke the boxer out before any more spells could be cast.

As Sofia watched the fierce fight, she wasn't even sure what to do. What could she even do? Doppelganger and Clear Clean won't do me much good here... And I can't use Shadow Bind unless my shadow is touching his, which it won't from this seat. I'd like to help you Damien, but I'm not strong enough. She thought to herself as she watched helplessly.

She winced as she saw one of Damien's punches end up reflected back at him by someone's spell. It just wasn't fair that Damien was practically being bullied by all these people who were clearly more experienced than the people supporting Damien. She knew how much it sucked to be looked down on by everyone, and she hated seeing this happen to Damien in front of everyone with all these lights shining on him. Wait... Lights?

Struck with a sudden realization, Sofia stood up in her seat and carefully maneuvered herself so the lights shining down on the ring made her cast a much larger shadow than usual. Using this, her shadow was easily able to reach Cory. "Magic in..." She whispered as she dropped her plate into her shadow, casting Shadow Bind on Cory. It was then she could feel the eyes of everyone on her. Standing up like that had made her stand out as well, something she had been trying to avoid thus far. But she couldn't let that bother her now. She knew this was the right thing to do. "GO DAMIEN!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!" Sofia cheered loudly as she maintained her Shadow Bind.

James had been busy fooling around in the corridors when he had been contacted to act as a corruptor in some sort of fight. The sound of this interested James to no end and he hurried over to the secondary gym to be rushed into a seat in the front row. For a while he was forced to sit in the pitch darkness but then the lights eventually came on revealing the two combatants and the announcer got right into explaining the rules.

James knew his spells were probably more trouble than they were worth, Obnoxius Fumes might annoy the entire room. James half pulled his plate out from its resting place up his sleeve and looked at it.

"Hmm, do I want to be painfully obnoxius or not?" James continued to mutter under his breath even as Sofia performed her shadow bind, only being shaken out of his thoughts when she shouted.

"That shadow bind thing again? That spell is pro, I wish had something like that." James would have liked a spell that was remotely useful but it wasn't in his nature to find one.

This wouldn't end well... With Sofia supporting Damien, there was no telling what sort of backlash might occur. Katie and her cult of followers might target Sofia for the rest of the day, or they could actively ruin her entire class' year... There was never any way to tell what level of 'retribution' Katie would inflict upon her targets. And Kelsey really, really didn't want to get any backlash. She... she had to ruin the spell. The very thought of going against one of her own repulsed her, but it was a thousand times easier than going against Katie. She made sure her hat was covering her face before attempting anything.

She knew several ways of negating the Shadow Bind spell. She knew that breaking contact of shadows and breaking concentration were the two main ways, and she deftly executed both as she dragged Sofia out of the way of the light and quickly back into a seat. The spell was broken, releasing Cory before Damien could get any significant hits in, and the fighting began once again.

"I-I'm really sorry... I know you want to help, but y-you can't use any more spells, please."

James' eyes nearly bulged out of his head as a figure wearing a comical wide brimmed hat interferred with the spell.

"What in the devil!?" James leapt out his seat, plate immediately in hand, listing off what few offensive spells he had with any range. He settled for a spell that had caught his eye for the funny spelling of its name.

"Fleating Strike!" What looked liked a stream of tiny insects poured towards Cory, if any hit the wrestler he'd be itching like mad, hopefully long enough for Damien to gain the upper hand.

Sofia was so focused on the fight and maintaining her Shadow Bind that she didn't even notice the person approaching her. Surprised by what was going on, she let out a small yelp as she was dragged back into her seat. Her plate emerged from her shadow and the spell was broken. Furious about being stopped, she turned to the person who had interfered. With all the lights shining down on the ring, it was hard to make out the person's identity. Especially since they were wearing a strange hat and cloak. But when she spoke, Sofia recognized Kelsey's voice. "K-Kelsey?! What the-?!"

Surprise and anger combined made it hard for Sofia to get the words out of her mouth. She knew she wouldn't get anywhere like this, so she took a deep breath and calmed herself before speaking again. She hadn't spoken much with Kelsey, but she didn't seem like the type to do something like this without a good reason. "Why did you interrupt my spell? The other Corrupters are killing him out there! I can't just sit here and do nothing!"

Kelsey's earlier sense of urgency dissolved as soon as Sofia started to question her. "I... I just..."

She knew it was hard to see no-one standing up for Damien, but she also knew that he could handle it. He wouldn't be the MEC leader if he couldn't stand against this sort of thing. She just wanted to make sure no-one made themselves a target, especially if she could be hit as collateral. "You can't go against Katie. You can't. It'll end badly."

Wow, she was terrible at explaining things. She wished she could actually make Sofia understand how badly Katie could mess up her year. Katie was a student council rep so it stood to reason that she would be fully capable of ruining each and every one of their lives.

Sofia frowned and stared at Kelsey for what felt like a long while, trying to make sense of just what was going on. Kelsey's explanation was incredibly vague, either by choice or because she didn't have much of a reason. Either way, if Kelsey was that determined to stop her from helping Damien there was no way she could do anything. Which was incredibly frustrating to say the least. "What's the point of having magic if it can't even protect you from a single person?" She asked, not really expecting an answer.

"Well, whatever. You win." Sofia said, throwing her hands up in surrender and sinking back into her seat. "I guess I probably shouldn't be ruining my new life on my second day here for a guy I barely know anyway. You might want to stop him too, though. If you're really that worried about what Katie will do." She said, referring to James who was doing his best to annoy as usual.

Oh hell. She couldn't get a break, just once? Kelsey severely doubted that James would be willing to listen to her. He seemed to be an attention-driven individual; if the focus wasn't on him for too long he would likely throw a tantrum. At least, this was her impression of him.

To use an analogy to understand her thought process, she thought James liked to rock the boat, and would quite happily rock said boat until the entire boat fell over and everyone drowned to death. The boat in the analogy is the unspoken social norm in which the class existed or... something...? She hadn't quite figured it all out, but surely the point remained that what James was doing would have repercussions that he refused to face for whatever reason. Personally she was hoping it was a bit of a better reason than 'he's a bit of a dick.'

She wouldn't have minded so much if she could guarantee that only he would be effected, because he seriously needed someone to put him in his place before he got in serious trouble, but attention for him leads to attention for the class, which leads to attention for her and the library. That is the exact sort of serious trouble he should be steering clear of. How could he lack such a sense of societal self-preservation?

Of course she couldn't stop him the same way she stopped Sofia. She didn't know how his spell worked, for one, and by selectively getting up to interrupt Corrupters acting in Damien's favour she would draw attention to herself. Instead she went for a much more visually subtle approach. The pang of guilt built up in her again as she slipped her plate into her hand. While there were no rules strictly against using a spell against other Corrupters (er, she thought?) she certainly felt that it was toeing some moral guidelines. It's for his own good, she convinced herself.

"Magic... in." She pressed her plate to her forehead and then, as it sunk away below the surface of her skin, started to focus on James. There was no way he would be able to defend against a magic of this type on his own. Even if he had any idea what was going on as her thoughts started to pervade his mind, he lacked the magic points or knowledge to fight back. She didn't send across any specific thoughts at first, instead using sharp changes in thoughts to break down his concentration.

Then to James' horror before a single flea could its target the spell began to veer out of the control, the fleas spinning in loops and figures of eight instead as James desperately tried to focus them.

"What is this!?" James gritted his teeth and tried ever harder but it was pointless it was like there was something deliberately scrambling his thoughts, he couldn't concentrate on any one thing. His spell spun out of control and would probably hit the crowd if he didn't stop it soon.

"Magic Out!" The spell vanished leaving a thoroughly depressed James to slump back into his seat, thinking the spell failing was his own fault. "Useless again? Pfft, looks like they were right, can't even cast this simple spell right can I?" James had always been certain the one thing in life he would be good at would be magic and that view had just been shaken. "Even with magic I still can't stop bullies, just like old times!" James gave a humourless laugh and pulled a deck of cards to slowly shuffle them as he turned his eyes back to the fight.

A corrupter? This is sure to be interesting?

He made his way and sat in the Corrupters seats where he noticed many familiar faces. Granted, not in a good way. Getting to know his fellow students better wasn?t a good way to go about. For a charity match, it was more fierce then he had expected it to be. Corrupters were able to cast spells on the combatants, but what could he do. Still green on the ways of his magic, he had no idea why he was chosen. Maybe Damien expected him to do something?

Damien gritted his teeth and tightened his muscles for what he was about to do. As he rushed in to take advantage of Sophia's Shadow Bind, first came the Barrier he was expecting. "Alteration-based magic... Makes the air hard. I can beat that." "Mana Burst!" Damien yelled, warping the magic waves and destroying the magic. Damien then began to attack Cory with everything he had, making sure to only attack the stomach. As expected, Katie's Shell Game spell came into play, turning many of Damien's punches against himself. However, he had already seen this coming and had prepared for it. Now and then, one of Damien's punches would strike Cory, especially as he increased the number of punches to where Katie could no longer return them all. "Direct Magic... Just gotta wait for it to expire. Mana Burst can't do anything here." Suddenly, Cory was no longer where Damien had trapped him. "What? Did he use Mana Burst? No, I made sure to keep him occupied. Then how?..." Damien looked down to see Kelsey sabotaging all the Corruptors that tried to help him. Damien felt betrayed, but understood the ramifications of helping him in this fight. Then Cory jumped down from his vantage point on the ropes, grabbed Damien's arm and slammed him into the ground in an arm lock. As Damien's body hit the ground with a loud and painful thud, the arena glowed brightly once again, this time turning into a sphere with a six meter radius. The sphere was eerily transparent to the viewers, but to Damien and Cory it seemed as if they were the only two people left in the world. However, both of them were on the wall! This change in orientation confused Cory, allowing Damien to slip out. Damien danced on the balls of his feet, blood coming from his nose where he had hit the ground. Cory was similarly injured, however, one could make out the impressions left by Damien's fists on Cory's body. Damien tested the gravity of the new field; wherever his feet were pointing was the way gravity oriented itself. He smiled, realizing the implications of a third dimension in this battle.

A vendor passed through the Corruptor's seats. "Magic! Get your disposable magic here! We have Direct, Manipulation, and Alteration based magic here! Prices ranging from ten to one hundred Magic Points per spell! Price increases with power! Quickly grab a spell or two, and help decide the fate of the match!"

For the record, ten magic points is a pittance. Still, the spells themselves are good. Think of White Challenger if you need an idea for the spells. Feel free to make your own spell, but remember to keep them in line with the rules of the fight. Also, RW, nice idea with the consequences of the fight. You really get into this stuff, don't you?

Even with only a few seconds of Shadow Bind to work with, Damien had managed to regain a decent foothold in the fight. He had to bring down a Barrier and weather another Shell Game to do it, but he was definitely getting hits in now. From the looks of things Cory was on the defensive, passively relying on Corrupters to score hits for him, and Damien was striking viciously. Whatever the reason, the two fighters were now on mostly even ground. Metaphorically speaking, anyway.

A vendor appeared amongst the Corrupters and Katie's group wasted no time to get him over, more than happily expending Magic Points for one-cast spells to bring down Damien. They would more than likely monopolise the spells or at the very least make a beeline for the higher-quality ones. Hell, it was entirely possible Katie had just brought someone down here to give her supporters more spells to use. It wasn't as though she would be above organising that. Regardless, it would make her job easier if none of Damien's supporters were given spells. She didn't think too many of them would go for them anyway. She doubted that Sofia would pick any up, Gavren couldn't even use magic and James looked a bit devoid of his usual enthusiasm for magic after having his spell cancelled... The others just seemed content to watch the fight for now, making no attempts to change the outcome. They might have worked out the possible consequences themselves. It didn't really matter to her about why they weren't casting spells so long as they stayed that way.

It only seemed like the IC thing to do. But yeh, I really do enjoy this sort of stuff. Probably a lot more than I should but hey, whatever. I even have a running head-canon going. Mostly about the resident huge ***** Katie and why she gets away with being such a terrible human being all the time, but also a little about the library. Because, you know, the library is where I'm gonna spend a good portion of my time in this RP, so I might as well be the one to decide how it works.

Hmm... It seems I've portrayed Cory in the wrong light. This is the first time Damien and Cory had ever fought with outside interference (other than the minimum 5 teachers required to break it up)... I shall endeavor to fix this. Think of it like this: Cory and Damien are equal to each other in fighting, but with Katie supporting Cory (he doesn't actually know about this fight being rigged) Cory has an incredible advantage over Damien. Oh, and I'm fine with what you're doing. Hell, the opening post gave y'all explicit permission to control the world as you desire. Also, where's that subplot you wanted to send to send to me? I was looking forward to it but never received anything. Or am I addressing the wrong person?

Oh, and anyone can use these spells, even without the ability to use magic. The magic the vendor is selling is basically small capsules you aim and break open. The spell's all ready to go without extra effort. I basically put it in there since I haven't allowed Korten to activate Mo... Yet. Soon though, so just hang in there, buddy.

Oh, and TerribleYetFun will soon be joining us. I'm amazed that I've somehow managed to attract so much attention to this RP. Probably has something to do with the new RP forum.

Cory snarled as yet another Barrier prevented his friend from fighting him at full strength. Cory wouldn't have minded the help if Damien had some of his own, but this was just too one sided. So Cory showed a digit of his that was very dear to him with his next move. "Stop interferin' with my fight! Mana Burst!" He roared, destroying the Barrier, allowing Damien to get a few more shots at him before the Barrier was once again formed, the creator too stupid to take a hint.

"MANA BURST!" Both yelled at the same time. The Barrier glowed that maddening eight color of the spectrum before warping and enveloping both Damien and Cory in Octarine light. When the light disappeared, both fighters were decked in gear more befitting mixed martial arts than boxing or wrestling. The ring was still the strange gravity-defying sphere, but it was now comprised of the far more elastic floor of an MMA ring rather than a boxing ring. The announcer looked at his cheat sheet which stated most of the arena changes. "Ladies and gentlemen, we now have a rule change! The requirement was when both fighters use a Mana Burst to cancel out the same magic. Now, instead of being confined to their own club's method of fighting, both fighters are encouraged to use the full repertoire of moves sanctioned by Mixed Martial Arts. No blows to the groin or eyes, but other than that, it's a streetfight!"

Both Damien and Cory grinned, hearkening back to their first fight, before the two of them had become friends. They had both been delinquents then, fighting with their own styles instead of boxing or wrestling. They were both far more dangerous then. And now they were encouraged to fight with that style again! "This is just freakin' ridiculous!" Damien exclaimed, loving every minute of it. He charged Cory with a right haymaker, planning on slamming Cory into the wall/floor/whatever the hell he was supposed to call the side of a sphere. Cory slid underneath easily, his back gliding over the surface of the sphere. Cory then slammed his right foot into the ground, launching him from his back into a backflip, perfectly situated to chop off Damien's arm with a single kick. Anticipating this, Damien spun around and lashed out with a monstrous spinning kick that slammed Cory into the wall of the sphere. Cory bounced off the side from the force, and Damien was quick to follow up with a left chopping punch that slammed Cory into the ground. Damien finished with a crushing axe kick that bit deep into Cory's midsection. The force that was transferred to the suspended structure caused it to vibrate like a tuning fork. The entire crowd gasped as one as Cory took this pain, then began to cheer as he got up and began his counterattack. Cory swung his left foot forward, which caused Damien's eyes to open wide as he immediately turtled up, remembering to tuck in his arms. Damien remembered this technique, and remembered exactly what Cory could do with it.

Cory's outstretched leg swung back like a demented pendulum, and he took off with a frontflip that took him to head height with his incredible leg strength. His freeswinging leg, finding no shoulder to attach itself to, instead buried itself where Damien's shoulder met his neck and spun Cory around at inhuman speeds. With this momentum, Cory performed a spinning kick that destroyed Damien's guard, giving Cory an opening. He once again pushed off, again changing direction, this time from horizontal to vertical. With his centrifugal momentum, Cory performed his own axe kick that dug into Damien's shoulder. His other let then slid around, hooking itself under Damien's arm as Cory's momentum forced him over Damien's head. Cory managed to hook his other leg under Damien's other arm, and threw his considerable weight forward, taking Damien off his feet and slamming him into the ground. Cory never touched the ground this entire time. In fact it had seemed as if he had learned how to fly. Gravity had forgotten where he was, but it suddenly remembered as Cory prepared to cave Damien's head in with a stomping kick from on high. Damien recovered his senses in time to grab Cory's outstretched foot and throw him using nothing but arm strength. If Cory was unstoppable in the sky, then Damien was unbeatable on the ground. The crowd roared its approval as Damien got up, his feet firmly planted while Cory began to bounce slightly on the heels of his feet, ready to take off for the skies. Both Damien and Cory grinned as they charged once more, ready for the real fight now that warm-ups were done with.

Back against the wall, in the common stands, Claudia shook her head, trying to bring up scorn, but simply unable to. "Oh dear..." She sighed. Claudia could tell her two best friends were having the time of their lives, even if to everyone else it seemed like each was trying to take the other's head off. She wouldn't cheer for one side over the other, but she sincerely hoped that the fight wouldn't actually end in one of the two being carried off in a body bag. Down in the Corrupter's seats, many of Katie's Army stood there with open mouths, staring in sheer disbelief at the spectacle before them and the sheer bloodlust that seemed to be emanating from the arena, despite the smiles on both Damien and Cory. Even Katie herself seemed speechless for once. "I chose Cory to fight Damien because I thought Damien wouldn't be able to hit his best friend, but look at him! It looks like he wants to rip Cory's heart out and feed it to him!" For the first time, Katie was afraid. If Damien won, especially with all the help Cory was getting, it would be a direct and heavy blow to her reputation. She turned to her mindless followers. "What are you doing? Hurry up and help Cory! Crush Damien!" She shrieked, afraid she was losing control o the situation.

This year was going to be different. This year would`nt be marred by humiliation, this year would he would`nt be known as that 'kid who got full of himself and paid the price' no this year he was going to change everything.

These same thoughts ran through Markus' mind as he wandered the school grounds almost unaware of what was going on around him. Just for the sake of having it he picked up his class schedule along with the sea of the other sophomores not bothering to go to the first class. This whole program about sophomores teaching classes was ridiculous to him, well just the part about sophomores having to be stuck in the same class as freshmen. He did`nt mind the teacher though, he always had a small amount of respect for Damien as his magic capabilities were to be admired but he never liked him personally due to his position on the MEC an organization, who for some reason always had an issue with Markus looking for new opponents.

He heard there was an exhibition fight of some kind going on in the gym, well not so much heard and more like being asked to sit in the the corrupters seats by Katie, he had nothing better to do at the time so he reluctantly accepted not knowing what to make of the offer. As soon as he entered he was assaulted by a wave of noise the sudden change in volume causing him to take a small step back before finding his seat, which by chance happened to be next to Kelsey. His eyebrow raised as he saw Katie and her usual group of followers all readying spells of some variation of another and if last year's smear campaign was anything to go by they were all heading straight for Damien.

"well now things just got a lot more fun, Bat country" and with that several bats surged from his hand all of them making a beeline for Cory's legs hopefully in an attempt to trip him up, his mind focused on the spell ensuring that the bats remained solid.

Edgar stood silent for rest of the match until the new rule was put into effect. Seeing Katie panicked did look funny but it gave Edgar an idea. Now why should I be making an enemy? I think I know how to do this. Edgar rose from his seats and strolled over to behind Katie's seat and leaned over next to her ear. Conscious of the looks he was receiving, he whispered, "Here's an idea, if you keep helping Cory like this and lose then it will reflect poorly on your magical abilities but..." Edgar paused for a bit and glanced around, "If you give support to Damien or try and keep the match fair then no consequences will occur hell, if you help Damien it might look as though you meant for the match to go this way. Don't be too obvious or it won't work."

Edgar rose back up, "Just thought I'd help," and then began to walk back to his seat.
