Mx0 RP- Welcome to Cascade High School!

Hello everyone, this is an RP loosely based on the manga Mx0 by Kano Yasuhiro, about a school of magic. Simple enough, right? The actual manga is available here, if you wish to study up a bit.

www.mangafox.com/manga/mx0
------------------------------------------------
Magic. Many think of it as nothing more than mere parlor tricks, or sleight-of-hand dexterity practiced by shams in black cloaks and top hats. However, it does exist, if one knows where to find it. The reason for the commonly held belief is simple: magic rarely works.

...perhaps that was a poor way to phrase it. Magic only works in special areas where magical waves can be harnessed and manipulated into performing deeds that bend the fabric of reality and break belief. Many places thought sacred or holy are actually sites of magic. In America, there are precious few. Some include the Black Hills, Crater Lake, and the Mojave Desert. However, the location with the strongest magical waves is in sunny Florida, due to the influence of the now-collapsed Fountain of Youth. Cascade High School has been built upon the Fountain, a sprawling private high school known for being the best and most selective high school in the nation.

However, despite the attractive allure of magic, few know about it as they walk into the halls of Cascade High, hoping to one day live in the elite boarding school. This lack of knowledge, despite the hundreds of students who have learned magic themselves, is due to The Trade. As the seniors leave Cascade High forever, they are granted a single wish in proportion to the amount of magic they have gathered during their studies there. Afterwards, once they exit the school grounds, those students lose all memory of magic and the ability to wield it. Rumors persist though, of the legendary 'black plates' that will allow a student to retain his or her memories of magic, and the ability to use it outside of a magical site.

This is where you step in, dear student. You managed to pass the written exam, aced the interview, and were able to read the octarine ink at the back of the pamphlet, proving yourself capable of magic. All financial matters have already been taken care of by the school, and your living accommodations have been provided for. Whatever your final wish may be, we hope you also have fun with life here at Cascade High, and enjoy your youth down in sunny Florida!

Welcome to the world of magic.
There's no turning back now.
------------------------------------------------
Welcome, dear RP'er. If you've made it this far, it means I haven't bored youth death or scared you away, so I reckon I'm doing well so far. I always enjoyed the concept behind Mx0 and so decided to make an RP out of it. This is my first time GM'ing an RP, so feel free to give suggestions or criticism on my abilities. Also, I want this RP to be open. You want a school-wide tournament-style battle to the death? We can work something out. Want a dueling system to restore thy slighted honor? Already in place, but you get the idea. Also, feel free to make plot and world suggestions. This world is yours just as much as it is mine; create it!

Magic in this world is based off incantations and previously created spells. However, many incantations are long and arduous, and fail if bit recited perfectly. And it was for this purpose the magic plate was created. Each student has a personal plate that can 'memorize' and store any magic recited to it. This magic can then be used without an incantation, merely by casting the plate into the desired medium of your chosen magic. Any plate may store any spell within reason. However, each plate level has a certain amount of memory space, which the total amount of spells on the plate may not exceed. Using magic also uses up MP, or Magic Points, which are also used to decide how high a plate should be ranked up. MP are easily gained, however, through excellence in the classroom, community service, magic clubs, etc. So don't be stingy with your magic!

-note: You may create your own spells, but you have to describe their effects. I will tell you how many Magic Points that spell consumes per cast and how much memory it takes on your plate. I will not keep count of your magic such as "You used a Voice Warp and Magic Hands, subtracting 55 MP from your total of 56. You fail the year, BWAHAHAHAHA!" No. I'm just gonna See how often you use magic, and tell you every now and then if you are running low. This will probably not happen unless you are casting Voice Warp every 3 seconds. A few days before a ranking test, I will tell each player if he/she has enough points to climb up, and if so to what rank.

1st level:

Red Iron (RI):
the plate normally given to the first years at the magic school. This plate has very limited magical storage.

2nd level:

Iron (I):
this plate is a level higher than the RI.

Chrome (C): this plate is a level higher than the Iron.

White Iron (WI): this plate is a level higher than the Chrome. The capacity is thought to be at least two times the capacity of the RI.

3rd level :

Yellow Bronze (YB)

Blue Bronze (BB)

White Bronze (WB)

Red Bronze (RB)

4th level:

Bronze (B):
this plate is higher ranked than the Red Bronze plate but lower rank than the Silver and consequently has more storage space than the Red Bronze but less than Silver.

From here, the plate types branch out depending on one's style of magic.

White Gold way : Those who emphasize consistency

Silver black (Sb)

Silver (S):
Silver plates are possessed by powerful students. Those who have a Silver plate are respected by their peers and are doing very well in their magical studies.

Rare Metal way : Those who emphasize spells

Rubidium (Rb)

Cobalt (Co)

Strengthened Alloy way: Those who don't use spells but have strong magic.

Cemented carbide (Cc)

Steel (St)

Here all three Plate 'roads' join up again to lead to the most powerful plate tier.

Ruthenium (Ru):

Gold (G):
the Gold plates are for extremely powerful magic users, they carry the highest amount of Magical capacity currently known to the series and such plates are feared among students. All teachers carry gold plates.

Mo: This plate both stands above all others, and is below them all. Mo has no magic power itself, but by using MP (1 point to erase 1 MP of magic), Mo has the ability to cancel out any magic. I will allow only one or maybe two RP'ers to have this plate, and even then all applicants better have a damn good sheet.

I will let you make up your own spells within reason, but here are a few from the series to start you off.

Synthetic Magic:
effect:Merge Items with the human body
Note: only Sophomores up know this trick

Strengthening/Volume Alteration Magic:
effect: Size and Strength increase to specific items
Note: A basic magic. Everyone can do this if desired.

Magnetism:
effect: a spell to make objects magnetic. Duration depends on magic power.
Note: A beginner's spell

Vision Magic:
effect: Cast illusion
Note: Basic magic

Clear Clean:
effect: Invisibility
Note:A simple illusion spell.

I will try to put new spells here as you learn them.
Note: Specialized magics can be learned by anyone. However, they are not taught in the classroom and must be found by studying the arcane texts in the library. The library is open at any time to students. Basic magics are taught in class and take up very little memory on plates.
Name: William Ferneaux
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Plate Level: Red Iron
Favorite Magics:
Tricks of the Eye: Illusion spells, either creating visions or hiding things from sight. With practice, he can deal in other senses.
Shield: Projects a defensive field, resistant to magical and physical harm.Ideally, it should be cast around an object, but it can be cast on it's own if necessary, though the effectiveness is reduced.
Animate trinket: Enchants a small object to give it mobility and basic autonomy. This results in self writing homework or self-playing instruments, but the quality of the work is directly proportional to the mindpower being used to power the spell.
At the moment, useful only for mundane tasks, though combat-worthy at higher levels.
Appearance: William stands tall and lean, dressed in loose, comfortable clothing and with a lazy, catlike smile on his not unhandsome face, which is framed by a mane of long, ginger-brown hair. He moves with a feline grace, conserving energy while moving form place to place as swiftly as is reasonable.
Background: Will was born into a moderately rich family, and as such he had an unremarkable but comfortable education, learning as much as he chose is whatever subject he felt interest. In maths and physics, art and music, he felt a joy, but never was he challenged. He became convinced that he needed to take the renaissance approach, and combine his interests. In his spare time, he investigated the physics of music-making and the mathematics of art, the art behind physics and the music of the primes. As his joy spread through the subjects, he excelled, but he felt less and less interest in his school set curriculum.
When it came to his exams, William's results were less than expected, and in an effort to teach him some discipline, his parents sent him to Cascade. The entrance exam, being based on intellect rather than knowledge, was no obstruction, and the interview even less so. The magical writing posed a puzzle, but William soon found the answer as he was admitted to the school proper, and found that his areas of focus fitted him perfectly into the role of an illusionist.
Relationships: Open.
Name: James Callis
Gender: Male
Grade/Age: Freshman/ 14
Plate Level: Red Iron
Favorite Magics:
Sleight of Hand: Limited Illusion magic, allows any object in the users hand to become invisible to all other than the user themselves. This makes the disappearing coin trick considerably easier.
Distraction: Useful for either escape or a dramatic entry, obnoxiously loud howling sound effects, foul smelling smoke and bright flashing lights, anything that will draw attention away from something else.
Nuisance: Incredibly minor offensive magic, deals with the infliction of annoyances such itching sensations, pins and needles, small jolts of electricity. More annoying than dangerous.
Appearance: James has an unruly mess of light brown hair which is often concealed under one of his numerous "magician hats" (top hats, bowler hats, fedoras etc.). His bright green eyes are also usually hidden behind either a pair of dark or mirrored sunglasses which he enjoys taking off for dramatic effect. There is a faint scar that runs across his neck that he got in a bike accident and his nose looks as if it has been broken, he enjoys inventing increasingly ridiculous reasons for both injuries. To contain his numerous items of "magical" junk James wears a long brown coat that other than been old and battered has a great number of pockets.
Under his coat he wears a buttoned long sleeved white shirt and long black trousers that he believes makes him look like a magician. He makes sure to never be wearing less than four watches, two on each arm, none of them set to the correct time. The final addition to his unkempt image is his mismatched socks and worn old boots that must have looked old even back in his grandfather's day.
Background: James was born as one of many children in his family out in a rural area and found himself often forgotten amongst the antics of his older and younger siblings. One day in a fit boredom he found himself exploring his attic and came across an old manual on magic tricks. From that day he was absolutely obsessed with the idea of being a magician. His constant tricks became a way to stand out from the rest of his family and he soon was embarked on a quest to collect anything he considered magical. Soon he was turning up to school dressed like a magician and engaging in outrageous pranks on a regular basis. Whenever called up to perform a speech he would instead display magic tricks, his assignments would be written in vanishing ink and instead of completing homework he would instead write essays on being a magician or how cool he was. After constantly being called in for interviews about his behaviour his parents demanded he get serious and claimed no good high school would ever accept him if he didn't change. Just to spite them, James applied to Cascade High and completed the questions, including the last question that seemed out of place. His siblings mocked him when they heard his choice and even James didn't expect to hear back from them but sure enough he was invited to interview. Despite acting like a fool and constantly showing off his magic tricks during the interview he was told he would definitely suit the environment at Cascade High. His shocked and somewhat proud parents were happy to send him off and thus James ended up Cascade High.
Relationships:Open.
Name: Sofia Montesino
Gender: Female
Age/Grade: 15 (Freshman)
Plate Level: Red Iron
Favorite Magics:
Doppelgänger: An illusion that allows the user to take the form of any object or person. To recreate the target properly, it must be something they can either see or are very familiar with.
Clear Clean: An invisibility illusion spell.
Shadow Bind:Restricts the movements of a person whose shadow touches the user's shadow.
Appearance: Sofia's Italian heritage is apparent in her darker skin tone. She's a little short at 5"4 and has a rather slender figure, though she has been gaining some weight recently. She has blue eyes and long black hair that she usually keeps tied in a ponytail. Nowadays, she likes to dress fairly casually usually wearing jeans and a plain t-shirt or sweatshirt depending on the weather. She always wears a pair of ruby earrings that were a gift from her older brother.
Background: Sofia was born in beautiful Venice, Italy and lived there for the first 12 years of her life. Her father works as a marketing executive for an suit manufacturer. The family was forced to move to Florida when he received a big promotion and was chosen to head an American branch of the company right around when Sofia was supposed to begin attending middle school. Although at first she wasn't too happy about moving to a foreign country away from everyone she knew, her older brother was there to cheer her up.
From there, things started going much better for her. Her good looks and friendly personality made her very popular amongst her new classmates, her grades were above average and she even managed to get on the school soccer team. On her birthday that year, her brother bought her a pair of beautiful ruby earrings to celebrate how well she was doing. She felt like she was living a perfect life. And then that good old school drama that we all know and loved had to go and happen. She had no idea where it started. A boy who asked her out but got turned down? Her father and brother were both very overprotective and would never allow such a thing. A girl jealous of her popularity, or upset because she felt Sofia snubbed her? It was impossible to tell who had started it all, but before she knew it there were all sorts of nasty rumors going around about her, from her bad mouthing friends behind their backs to cheating on tests to juggling 11 different boyfriends. And even though none of it was remotely true, even her closest friends began to turn on her. Crushed by the horrible betrayal, Sofia sunk into a depression. Her grades suffered and eventually she just stopped going. Her family asked what was wrong and did their best to help, but Sofia couldn't bear to tell them how miserably she had failed. Left with no choice, when the time came for her to start high school her family chose to send her to Cascade High in hopes that a fresh start would help her. Sofia was also glad for the chance to start over and applied herself to the entrance exam and interview with everything she had. She was accepted and that cheered her up a bit, but she's still hurting and will continue to do so until something or someone can snap her out of it.

I was afraid not everything would fit, so this space has been usurped by authority of the GM.
Here's how I want the sheets.

Name: Should be obvious. Remember, this school is international, so feel free to create your ideal student.
Gender:Again, diversity is nice. I won't force you to change genders, but I might be more lenient to the compliant. RP with what you're comfortable with, but remember, The school has a 50/50 split. Let's try to have it show.
Age/Grade: In this RP, I only want freshmen/sophomores, as the Jr/Sr. are in a different building. Thank you for your cooperation.
Plate Level: If you're an incoming freshman, you will have Red Iron. The only exception to this rule is any MO users out there. Sophomores have a bit more leniency to their plate levels. You will become stronger over the course of the RP, but the higher your plate, the harder it becomes to advance it.
Favorite Magics: I'm not gonna shoehorn you into using a couple magic spells for the entire RP, but I do want to see what magic you prefer using/are best at, to get an idea about your character. You can change this at any time.
Appearance: Give me an idea of what you look like! I want facial features, scars, watches, the works. Anyone attempting to give me a picture will be taken out back and shot.
Background: None of you will know magic existed before attending Cascade, but I want to know why you wanted to attend Cascade. I don't want to see an autobiography here, but some info on your life before Cascade and other things would be nice. Sophomores can also describe what they accomplished in their first year. A couple character quirks would be appreciated. You guys know what to do. Mo Users: If you plan on using Mo, you better have a damn good reason why you have a magic-less plate assigned to you in a school that teaches magic.
Relationships: This is high school, for God's sake! PM the other players, set up rivalries, love triangles, etc. RP's are so much more fun when you have a personal stake in things.

Here's my (admittedly poor) character sheet to help you out a bit.

Name: Damien Lier

Gender: Male

Grade/Age: Sophomore (16)

Plate Level: Silver

Favorite Magics:

.45 Revolver: Transforms his left arm into a large gunbarrel, capable of firing different types of ammunition. These range anywhere from a magical shockwave to magic glue to restrain opponents.

Snowrunner: Using Damien's snowboard as a medium, this magic manipulates gravity to allow Damien to race around the school at high speeds.

Chain Gang: This magic strengthens and lengthens the steel chain Damien wears for a belt, allowing him to catch and restrain delinquents.

Appearance: Standing tall at 6'1," with golden hair cut short and stormy grey eyes, Damien is easily spotted within a crowd. Damien can usually be found wearing white sneakers, comfortable denim jeans, and a black, short-sleeved Nike shirt. On top of his shirt is a white hoodie with tribal patterns racing down the left arm normally keeps unzipped. A long, black bag containing Damien's beloved snowboard can usually be found slung over his right shoulder. A cross-like scar adorns the back of his left hand.

Background: Born in Colorado, Damien lived most of his life surrounded by the snow, and loved it. When he was old enough, he would go up on his farther's chair lifts, racing down the gargantuan mountains, loving the speed. When it came time for high school, Damien applied to Cascade as a joke, thinking he would never get in. However, Damien was able to read and answer the question that only those with a talent for magic could read, guaranteeing a pass into the prestigious school. As his father was a successful businessman, money was no objection, and so Damien was shipped halfway across the country, to a climate opposite of his own.

Damien studied hard during his first year at Cascade, both to please his parents back home, and because he loved magic. This zeal merited him a Silver plate by the end of the year and the seat of Branch Chief of the Magic Executive Committee, the student-run disciplinary force that oversees the correct use of magic and punishes abusers. However, due to rising problems at the end of the year, Damien's work as Branch Chief tripled, stalling his magical advancement. This year, Damien is desperately searching for new volunteers, as he is now the only disciplinary member in charge of the Freshmen and Sophomores due to the graduation of all the other members to the Junior/Senior building. Damien recently has gotten hooked on oranges, having never tasted one before. A bowl of these can be found on his desk in the MEC room at any time. Rock 'n Roll can also be heard playing from Damien's personal selection within the MEC room.

Relationships: Open.

Name: Kelsey Walker
Gender: Female
Age/Grade: 16, Sophomore
Plate Level: Rubidium
Favourite Magics:
Vapourisation: Causes the caster, or parts of the caster, to become smoke. The smoke can be manipulated at the caster's will, is mostly transparent and is completely harmless to others.
Wordless Communication: Works as a form of telepathy, allowing the caster to speak directly to a subject from a great distance. The distance over which the link can be established can be increased with practice, as can the clarity and length of communication.
Appearance: Kelsey has neck-length dark brown hair, with her fringe almost completely obscuring her hazel eyes. At a height of 5'5" she is by no means an imposing girl, and her slight features make her even less so. Suffice to say that a lot of students at Cascade High can seem as though they're quite insane, judging by looks alone, and Kelsey sits safely outside of this circle.
Rather predictably, she doesn't buy into the sometimes extravagant and ridiculous fashions of other students of the school, instead wearing clothing that would seem more at home as a school uniform; things like a white polo shirt with a blue sash tied around the midsection, a jacket, a knee-length skirt and pumps. Of course, there are times when looking a bit extravagant is okay, and for these she has a cloak and wide-brimmed pointed hat. She will just wear them over her regular clothing.
Background: Kelsey is an incredibly isolated individual. She always has been to an extent. Throughout her life so far she has found a place to be away from others, ranging from the far corner of the cafeteria to a solitary janitor's closet. This isn't to say that she doesn't like people; she can tolerate people and has even found some that she will enjoy being around. But she's never wanted to actively pursue anything like they did, so while those people went to find things they liked she just sat on her own, lost in her own thoughts.
In her first day of middle school she went to go find something she would enjoy. She spent the first couple of weeks going from place to place, finding everything to be too social for her. There were too many people for her to really feel at ease, so she was never able to enjoy whatever it was she was doing. She wandered from activity to activity without being able to stick to one, until she wandered into the library. And then she just stayed there. Apart from the odd person who went up and down the aisles of books it was empty. It was exactly where she had been looking for this whole time. From then on she spent her breaks and dinners there, reading anything and everything. At first it was just the reading material from lessons, but then it became whatever she could get her hands on.
When it came time to choose a high school to attend, Kelsey didn't have an idea of where to choose. All she could do was look around to see which school would suit her best. People have a lot of reasons for trying to get into Cascade High. Bets, jokes, peer pressure. Sometimes they do it because they actually think they can get in. Kelsey was specifically because of the library. The library seemed to stretch into forever and, according to the library committee, it was the largest library in the country. It was the perfect place for her.
Cascade High was incredibly prestigious though. She didn't think she could get in at all, despite how wonderful it would be to get the opportunity. She looked at a lot of other high schools, thinking that somewhere else would be as good for her. But it didn't really end up like that. After having that dangled in front of her she only wanted to go to Cascade High. So she sat the entrance exam.
Due to her incredibly bookworm-ish nature the written exam was no problem for her. Her 'tendency' to hide in a book from time to time had made her incredibly book-smart, though a little lacking in common sense and people skills. The greatest obstacle to her acceptance was the interview, but she somehow passed through without incident. Then with her ability to read the octarine ink confirmed, her entry into Cascade High was a certainty. Her family couldn't have been happier for her, and she just sort of accepted their happiness rather than sharing in it.
In her first year, Kelsey joined the library committee. The library became her home away from home for the entire year, far away from the usual students' areas. As such she didn't make very many friends outside of the other committee members, and even the library members didn't know her much. In spite of her isolationism she was able to study up to getting a Rubidium plate. In her second year she plans to do better, but is faced with a personal dilemma. End her isolation to bring in members, or risk the library committee being disbanded.
Relationships: None.
Name: Gavren Noisha.
Gender: Male
Age/Grade: 15, Freshman
Plate Level: Mo
Favorite Magic?s:
Appearance: Gavren is 5''9' and has light gray hair. His olive skin is rather fair, and his overall physique is ordinary. He wears a white shirt, with red lines traveling diagonally across it, with plain blue jeans to finish it off. With his outfit, he wears black leather gloves covered with his own markings. These gloves were from a game Gavren was going to create. In his pocket, he carries around a game device to play when he is bored.
Background: Gavren grew up in a fairly average household, but he never made many friends. Instead, he chose to seclude himself from the rest of the children around him. He believed they acted childish despite himself being one, and therefore didn?t gain any friends among his peers. Over the years he has acted a bit more open but still thinks little of people. It wasn?t that he thought he was better, but he didn?t feel as if he belonged with groups of people.
Magic wasn?t really his thing, as while others would enjoy being able to use it, Gavren cared little for it. This made his parents angry, as they tried to convince him that Magic would be best for him because it was good for them. During this time, Gavren kept away from anything magical. His parents tried and tried to convince their son to change his opinion of magic but nothing was working.
Over the years, he began to admire Video Game designers because of their great works and the effort they put into their games. Gavren wished to go to College and learn programming, but his parents had other ideas. His parents were huge into the world of Magic, and they were near Cascade High, the Magic Academy from which they both had graduated from years prior. They wished for their son to also go there and become involved with the Magic community.
This is when Gavren began to rebel against his parents. Two weeks before he would go to Cascade, Gavren ran away from his manipulating parents. With nowhere to go, he wondered around, getting daily jobs to pay for food, never once telling anyone that he had run away from home, lest he be returned. During the nights Gavren slept in hidden spots so he wouldn?t be told to leave or be arrested by the police. It was tough living on his own, as being fifteen years old limits what one can do.
Eventually, Gavren was caught by his parents. A family friend had spotted him and told his parents. Mere days before school began, Gavren was dragged out of his hiding spot and was forced to go to Cascade. Gavren continually wishes to escape this new prison. Unfortunately, his parents could easily see his intentions and so got permission from school to have guards to ensure escape is not a possibility.
Mo Users: Gavren's was an interesting case, as when he was assigned to go to the school, his parents specifically stated that he had to have a Mo plate despite it being insanely rare in order to punish him. Thus, due to his parents' influence in the Magic community they were able to get the Mo plate to punish Gavren, forcing him to not only go to a Magic School, but go to a magic school and not be able to cast magic on his own.
Relationships: Open.
Name: Angela Chao
Gender: Female
Age/Grade: 16, Sophomore
Plate Level: Rubidium
Favorite Magics:
Red String Bind: Creates and invisible red cord tied around the pinky of the caster's left hand. Anyone else connected to this cord becomes very susceptible to any suggestions made by the caster. The cord is tough, but breaking it ends the spell. At the caster's discretion people effected may not have totally clear memories of what they did while under the spell. However, the spell only suggests and can't actually force anyone to do or think anything.
Hold Person: Someone effected by this spell is paralyzed and unable to move. The spell weakens over time and can be broken by someone with enough physical or magical strength.
Cat's Eye; Pierce: The user can see just fine with only a tiny bit of light. (still can't see in total darkness) Also, the user can see those pesky invisible things.
Appearance: Angela's slightly small stature and round face gives a strong sign of her Chinese heritage. She has flowing brown hair that falls about to the small of her back, but is almost always tied up in some manor. Her eyes are also brown and usually emphasized with a tasteful amount of makeup.
She can often be seen wearing whatever the latest trends are, but prefers bright summer colors and flowing cloths. She usually caries a small messenger bag emblazoned with a flower.
Background: Even from a young age Angela was a social person. Always the center of attention, she did everything she could to have as many friends as possible and to talk with everyone. (and she could talk a lot)
When it came time to chose a high school Angela picked Cascade High for a very simple reason. It was where her boyfriend was going. Unfortunately he didn't get accepted while Angela did. (she's smarter then most people assume from her personality) Fortunately though, the pair had already broken up when the information was gotten and so Angela went even more to get away from him.
Angela's first year went quite well. She had quite a good aptitude for magic and once again excelled at making many friends. The majority of her magic points were actually acquired by helping other students in a myriad of ways then just through magical ability.
Relationships: Damien Lier is actually one of the few students that Angela doesn't like. Not only did they clash several times during freshman year due to their wildly different methods, but now he's become head of the Magic Executive Committee; an organization that the anti-authoritarian Angela dislikes intrinsically. (Open to anyone else)
Name: Samuel Kateem
Gender: Male
Grade/Age: Sophomore/16
Plate Level: Bronze
Favorite Magics: some evocation, most notably electric, air, or fire. Theoretical magics such as Runes, has the ability to alter simple spells via applied theoretical concepts, and some creative thinking in a couple of days, or an hour depending on what differences and how many different things you want the spell to be... or how stable, and when given weeks can create a stable, useful cantrip, and given many months, perhaps a year, could probably create a stable, fully functional spell, though this is assuming he doesn't have other full time projects.
Clear Clean, used to the point of the incant is fairly doable even without the plate, although he dislikes the idea of trying, and has never tested it for fear of backfire. Talented in other illusory spells, does not necessarily like or dislike them, so this talent is largely unused, and he doesn't recognize it.
Appearance: wears a plain orange long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and incredibly worn old sneakers, which seem to be held together by repair runes constantly keeping them together.
His curly, long, dirty blonde hair looks like he attempts to sweep it back, but it somehow just ends up messier. His face is bony angular and handsome, with a slight blonde mustache and beard on his chin, now actually starting to bristle. He is skinny, standing at 5'9" with emerald green eyes.
Samuel has a dragon necklace he got from a friend that is starting to look brown because the silvery paint is falling off to reveal the well-loved metal beneath.
Background: Born in Kansas City of the American Midwest, he's got an accent of the midwest, when he DOES speak to anyone but himself, which is rare. He never really was popular, always being the science nerd, and he didn't even get extremely high grades, although his teachers believed that his crippling lack of self-esteem in any sense of the word contributed to that.
He's rather well-versed in the Scientific Method. Excelled in other parts of schooling. Has an impressive resume of courses passed, although usually with high to mid B, and always with notes of how quiet he was. His brother is a doctorate level chemist, and Sam seems to think of his brother as a role-model. His home life was always stressed.
Fast forward to his highschool years and we find a sarcastic person, who is unsure if he has a place in the world, and is largely contented to watch the few people that bother to pay attention to him excel and succeed, helping them where he can while he tries to pass and be happy. Coming from the searing summers of the midwest, he tends to wear clothes out of season and seem unbothered by it. His actual character and thoughts are a mystery to even the regulars of the Arcane Library, where he spends almost all of his time. He sometimes asks how they're doing, and exchanges greetings and a nod whenever he passes close-by to someone, even if he doesn't know them because he grew up in Kansas City where such nicety is simply part of everyday life.
Seems to have a strong, if so insanely complex and loopholed to be completely unrecognizable to most people, moral center.
Relationships: Open, but barely anyone knows the guy.
Name: Markus Law
Gender: Male
Rank/Age: Sophomore(16)
Plate Level:Silver Black (Sb)
Favorite Magics:
Bat country
Spawns a small swarm of bats that fly from his sleeves to mob the opponent if the caster is focused on the spell the bats become solid and can inflict the target with several small wounds however if not focused on then the bats are simple illusions and are thus completely harmless.
thunderstruck
Charges his hand with a small amount of electricity, the charge is released on the first person his hand touches and causes a reasonable amount of pain and temporary numbness to whatever area of the body was hit.
Misty waters
Creates a thick mist that emanates from the caster eventually engulfing both him and the target, the mist is incredibly hard to see through but creates the perfect opening for an attack.
Appearance: Standing at about "6,0" with a skinny body shape,Blue eyes and jet black hair that reaches down to the bottom of his ears, a small bit of regrowth is peeking out of the top of his scalp, indicating that this is not his natural hair color. He is usually wearing a button up shirt (various colors but 90% of the time it`s a deep blue color) with a wide black tie with several white skulls along it and a pair of baggy black jeans and your average pair of sneakers he never bothers to get these clothes treated on the basis of "if they wanna look, let them, I have nothing to hide".
Background: If Markus was a kid on your street your parents would probably have told you to stay away from him, not because he was a bad influence or mean or anything common like that he was just... weird always with some odd habit or hobby at the time this continued, almost to the point you`d think there was something wrong with him. This tendency to alienate people around him extended to all aspects of his life including his schooling, the constant loneliness started to wear on Markus only achieving just above mediocre grades Markus knew this was because he just was`nt that great at school not because of his lack of friends, his parents thought differently however and in order to alleviate this problem his parents sent him to cascades, much to Markus' protest. the problem was as expected the same, he started to accept that all schools were the same, even the magic ones. Then one day he participated in his first Magic battle he fell in love with the thrill of it, the energy, the surge of joy that came with victory, His spells began to reflect that becoming more offensive in nature, slowly he became more feared among his fellow freshmen racking up victories wherever he went, but his confidence got the better of him one day, about halfway through the school year when he challenged a Junior unfortunately for him the junior took him up on his offer... The duel did`nt last longer than 5 minutes and only served to make people want to avoid him more. Ever since then he has become even more determined to increase his strength throwing himself into his studies to do so.

Name: Edgar Galloway
Gender: Male
Age/Grade: 15 (Freshman)
Plate level: Red Iron
Favorite Magics:
Evolution: A defensive spell to adapt to changes in the environment. If submerged in water he can temporarily change his lungs into gills for example.
Material light: Materializes extremely hot objects of any kind. Swords, rocks, etc...
Metallic Whip: Enchants a small piece of rope he carries to be large and metallic, but still flexible. Making it perfect for a whip to defend himself.
Appearance: Very bushy hair, at a height of 5'11 with average weight and green eyes. Wears plaid shirts over various t-shirts of his. Wears black shoes with orange streaks. Blue jeans. Doesn't stand out in the crowd. Crooked nose as though it's been broken twice.
Background: Edgar's parents were magic users as well but abused it often. For most of Edgar's childhood he was moving from place to place with his parents who abused their magic to move on a crime spree. Up until the age of four when they were cornered in Northern Alaska. Edgar's uncle Alex was a magic enforcer and led the investigation on them. With nowhere to go Edgar's parents decided to fight and were killed in front of Edgar.
With nowhere to go, Edgar was taken in by Alex. Though he was far too young to remember what happened, he was still traumatized by the incident and became subject to random panic attacks as life went on.
On the guess that Edgar might also contain magical ability, Alex submitted Edgar to Cascade to see if he too could use magic. Edgar aced the written exam and performed well in the interview. The final piece of proof was Edgar's discovery of the hidden question which only potential magic users could find.
With these results, Edgar was approved to enroll in Cascade High.
Relationships: Edgar dislikes students in authority. Therefore makes him less than excepting towards students such as Damien and the MEC in general.

Important information for all players:
Magical quality of a spell is determined by the concentration of the user upon recitation. For example, say if two twins wanted to copy down the same spell to their respective Plates. We'll use .45 Revolver for simplicity. Now, one twin went out, played with his friends, and generally relaxed, making him a contented camper. The other twin just broke up with his girlfriend, nearly got into a car accident, and just tripped and landed face-first in dog crap. They both copy .45 Revolver to their plates. They both copy the spell perfectly and test it. The happy twin's spell is clearly the more powerful, while the unhappy twin wastes MP just trying to form the gunbarrel. This will be true until the unhappy twin deletes the spell from his plate, becomes more concentrated, and re-copies the spell to his plate.

My Rules For the RP:
-Respect the other players.
This means no trenchcoating, Mary Sue-ing, godmodding, killing other PC's (or NPC's, for that matter- this is a school!), controlling other PC's (without consent). This also includes any RP no-no's that I have failed to mention here. Basically, if you wouldn't like it done to yourself, don't do it to others.

-Respect the GM. My word is law; my decisions, final. If I cut you down for plot, it's probably because I have something awesome and fun planned and I want to share it with everyone. If you still feel like I am oppresing you, PM me your concerns privately- do not clog up my thread with no-content OOC chat. This brings me to my final rule, which is:

-Respect the RP. Guys, this is common sense. We all want to have fun, but it's a pain in the ass when some players are not contributing. Therefore, I would like all of you to follow basic rules of grammar, as well as post in the standard third-person past tense. This is nothing more than, "Damien jumped over the fence and ran;" you all know how to do this. Finally, if you see you only have two lines of content, y'all better start describing the trees, because I want all posts to have an absolute minimum of 3 lines on a PC or laptop, and a minimum of 4-5 lines on an iPod touch or other handheld device. Trust me- this might seem like a pain, but it is actually very little to ask for, and will make all of you so much better at writing. Ask anyone of the Regulars, and they will vouch for this rule. However, I do understand that there are some extenuating circumstances occasionally, and we will cross those bridges when we get to them. Finally, avoid a lo/no-content post. I will probably form a user group to avoid this, but I absolutely forbid a post that only has a spoiler box and no actual RP content. If you do have some story-progressing text, however, feel free to stick in an OOC textbox with a question or comment.
Those are my three Respect rules. Just follow those and you'll be fine. Other than that, have fun!

And that's it! Here's hoping for a successful run!

Here we go!

Name: William Ferneaux

Gender: Male

Age: 19? (He's first year, but I don't know what age that is in America)

Plate Level: Red Iron

Favorite Magics:

Tricks of the Eye: Illusion spells, either creating visions or hiding things from sight. With practice, he can deal in other senses.

Deflection: The ability to divert derail spells aimed at his person. Useless against indirect magic, like throwing things using telekinesis. At higher levels, can be used to cancel or even rebound such magic.
The difficulty of the deflection is proportional to the power of the spell in question, and Will must be able to see the spell coming.

As for you personally 3W...
Sorry about the age thing. MW hates me and changes characters at random to Cyrillic. He's 16. The average age of an incoming freshman would be 14-15.

Also, the Deflection spell would be far too high for an RI level plate. That spell also shares several qualities attributed to the MO plate (canceling magic), and so I'm gonna have to ask you to remove it or replace it with a different spell. A simple shield, such as paper modified with strengthening magic, would be perfectly acceptable if you're looking for an alternative. That would be basic magic, after all. Other than that, you're good!

So you're telling my character's laziness will actively contribute to his success?

Also, how about this:

Shield
Projects a defensive field, resistant to magical and physical harm.Ideally, it should be cast around an object, but it can be cast on it's own if necessary, though the effectiveness is reduced.

If that's how he best concentrates, then yes! The better he is able to focus on the magic at recitation, the more powerful it will be every cast thereafter. Many students lock themselves into a room with music playing, others shoot hoops, etc. Whatever it takes to get you in the zone.
Just add the changes to your original paper and you're good to go!

This looks interesting, so, er, yeh. Working on a sheet. Will hopefully finish it soon. Expect a bookworm-type junior. Now, no more words; only sheet-writing.

It's fine. The JR./SR. Are kept in a different building because their magic is usually on an entirely different magnitude than the fresh./Sophomores.

Your rping was really impressive back in Corruption of Newstark so I thought I'd check this out and it looks really interesting. I have to head off the school any minute now but I'm definitely interested. I'll see if I can whip up a sheet when I get home.

Finally got around to finishing my sheet, haven't done a great deal of rping so I'm not sure of its quality but, here it is all the same. Please feel free to tell me if anything needs to be changed or you have some suggestions.

Name: James Callis

Gender: Male

Grade/Age: Freshman/ 14

Plate Level: Red Iron

Favourite Magics:
Sleight of Hand: Limited Illusion magic, allows any object in the users hand to become invisible to all other than the user themselves. This makes the disappearing coin trick considerably easier.

Distraction: Useful for either escape or a dramatic entry, obnoxiously loud howling sound effects, foul smelling smoke and bright flashing lights, anything that will draw attention away from something else.

Nuisance: Incredibly minor offensive magic, deals with the infliction of annoyances such itching sensations, pins and needles, small jolts of electricity. More annoying than dangerous.

Appearance: James has an unruly mess of light brown hair which is often concealed under one of his numerous ?magician hats? (top hats, bowler hats, fedoras etc.). To contain his numerous items of ?magical? junk James wears a long brown coat that other than been old and battered has a great number of pockets.

Under his coat he wears a buttoned long sleeved white shirt and long black trousers that he believes makes him look like a magician. He makes sure to never be wearing less than four watches, two on each arm, none of them set to the correct time. The final addition to his unkempt image is his mismatched socks and worn old boots that must have looked old even back in his grandfather?s day.

After constantly being called in for interviews about his behaviour his parents demanded he get serious and claimed no good high school would ever accept him if he didn?t change. Just to spite them, James applied to Cascade High and completed the questions, including the last question that seemed out of place. His siblings mocked him when they heard his choice and even James didn?t expect to hear back from them but sure enough he was invited to interview. Despite acting like a fool and constantly showing off his magic tricks during the interview he was told he would definitely suit the environment at Cascade High. His shocked and somewhat proud parents were happy to send him off and thus James ended up Cascade High.

Hmm... I like it! To quote Terry Prachett, "There's always one." :)
Your sheet shall be placed within the accepted list.
Friendly reminder to all players: If you see a character sheet that has 'open' for Relationships, consider PM'ing them to find out how your characters will react to each other! This will make things interesting, and will make tracking players quite a bit easier for me as well. As with Favorite Magic, Relationships can be changed at any time, just like real life.
