I'm going to see it when it comes out for us normal people. But yeah, from what I'm hearing both me and Movie Bob are going to hate it on every level.
It continues to show that WB doesn't 'get it.' That these heroes are iconic, almost god-like; and instead of using that to their advantage they keep telling the same story over... and over... and over.
You know, thinking about it I realize Man of Steel is kind of like a hash of both Superman and Superman II. It covers everything from the origin story in Krypton to Zod's plot for world domination. The only thing it's missing is Lex. But you won't much see anything new if you already watched the first couple of Christopher Reeve movies. One can only hope they'll come up with a better movie for the sequel, since they're fresh out of used material by now (they can't possible go for Superman III and IV).

So... any bets on whether Moviebob will love it or hate it? I'm leaning towards some enthusiastic praise of the good stuff followed by a more-in-sorrow-than-anger appraisal of the bad.
I haven't watched a lot of his videos so I can't say for a fact. Your estimate sounds about right to me, though. In many ways it's a wasted opportunity to do something novel with the character and his story. My best bet is lukewarm praise. For everything good there's something equally just as bad: the secondary characters are all excellently cast, but then they're both misused and underused more often than not; the action is great but then it kind of drags out during the latter third of the movie (Superman's character arc, if we can call it that, is over by a looooong way by then). So it's a little flawed, and a little routine at times... and yet I can't shake the feeling that it was a fun Superman movie to watch. Not very inventive, but fun and spectacular in the David Lean kind of way.
I saw it Saturday, and I loved it. Personally, I thought the acts were played out well enough: Act one opens with action, set-up, and action, then act 2 slows things down to get the story in and establish character and whatnot, and finally act 3 is all KABOOM SHOOSH SKIZOW BLAM BOOM! I'll admit, the intercut flashbacks were a little off-putting, but other than that I thought the characters were remarkably well done and it was mostly faithful to the mythos. The things they changed made sense for a movie to change. The 3D wasn't too great though. It really added nothing to the picture.
That's usually the case when the studio pays a conversion fee to go 3D rather than plan to make the movie in 3D from the get-go. It's just a BTW scam to charge you extra.
The reviews are being kind of brutal to this movie. I'm really hoping that everyone's still just bitter about Sucker Punch. The... the trailers made it look so good!

About half a being brutal, and half are loving the hell out of it. It's a Zack Snyder film; they're always divisive. Personally, I love them, but a lot of people hate them.

67 on Rotten Tomatoes and 58 on Metacritic, so far. Hardly the be all and end all but I'm guessing WB would be a lot happier with at least another 20 percentile points on that. I'm definitely curious to see how it does, since if it underperforms they may as well give up on the Justice League movie now.

I can't trust Movie Bob with movies he really IS looking forward too. He expects too much and when his (impossible) expectations aren't achieved he turns his angry fanboy mode on. Funny to watch though lol

I went and seen it and it sucked. The action scenes were meh and the acting was meh. Most of the movie felt like they were pulling crap out of the directors ass. And don't get me started on the christian overtones! It was so fucking ham-fisted into the movie to the point of ridiculousness. The dialogue of one of the villains during a fight made me nearly leave the movie.

Oh that's right, I forgot about that bullshit scene with the priest! It felt like the movie just had an afterthought about "if there're aliens then where does god fit in all of this?" so they just threw in Superman cooling with a priest to appease the religious folk.
I was really disappointed with it to be honest. The plot just kind of jumps and skips forward rather than having any flow from scene to scene or any indication of how much time has passed
I had this problem too.
I thought I was just tired, I've been running on little sleep lately, but it's just:
We're here-there-here-flashback-there-there-flashback-here-dream sequence-there-there-then here again.
It's all very confusing.
That aside though, I thought it was awesome. The fights were so intense and camera does a good job of conveying speed and intensity without shaking too much and becoming disorienting. That said, they did love to really saturate that camera with light, didn't they? I'm not talking lens-flares, I mean, there are some spots where the screen just went pure white and it kind of hurt my eyes.
But let's end on a high note, I thought it was pretty awesome.

All the better then I for one am looking forward to this movie!!! Only recently have I started being a fan of Superman, so a lot of things about him are brand new to me, which sorta puts me in a kind of unique hype hahaha I also want it to be great so my girlfriend enjoys the movie, she hates Superman and I want to brainwash her about this hahahah
I thought it was ok. I did think it was better than any other live action Superman movie to date, mostly because they didn't waste half the movie on a date with Lois. They also came a lot closer to living up to the potential of what a Superman movie could be, mostly because of modern day effects coupled with a guy that loves to make fight scenes with 'em.
The time cuts bugged me, too.
I did like that we got to see the difference between power and skill show up now and then. The other Kryptonian soldiers were definitely much better fighters than ol' Blue Boy.
I got a sense that Nolan was trying to work a little of his trademark 'realism' into this movie, what with
the "Kryptonite" actually being Superman more used to/adapted to Earth's environment than Krypton's, plus the slightly more in depth explanation of how Supe's powers were fueled by a combination of things, instead of just comic book physics.
I don't think it really hurt anything, but I also don't really think it was necessary.
Loved both the tanker and satellite easter eggs towards the end of the film.
I still think that the best Superman movie they could make would involve Darkseid. I'm not necessarily saying he should be the big bad in the next movie, but he's the perfect opposite to Superman: near equal power, used to dominate instead of protect. He's the black to Superman's white, and that works for a character who is as unequivocally GOOD as Superman is.
I think that if I had MoS and Iron Man 3 on dvd, I'd end up watching IM3 all the way through more than once, but probably skip around to the fight scenes on Man of Steel.
My bottom line: Pretty good, but the DCAU still ranks supreme for me.
