See that kinda slowing-down-when-you're-supposed-to-stop happens a lot over here. All these roundabouts make driving interesting.

Rolling stop. But I'm a Massachusetts driver, so it's called "stopping at a stop sign".
haha. Thinking the same thing. Technically it's a "rolling stop", but in Boston it's a suggestive yield.

I call it "Illegal".

In all seriousness i have no idea.
Funny, I call it legal, myself. The law states that you must make an actual stop, even briefly (which this seems to imply), you are stopped and have observed the sign. And, to my knowledge, brake light means "I've applied breaks, if even for a short burst, indicating some duration of stopness.".

I thought the op meant that the person didn't make a full stop but slowed down enough to cause the break lights to come on.
Last i checked you had to make a full stop at a stop sign.

You know what? I'm not even sure what he actually DOES mean. The whole thing is a little vague. But all this mention of Stop makes me think that they stopped for maybe a second, rather than, "Oh, I'mma coastin' mah lazorz brakes on.". The insinuation is that there is at least a little stop, which is technically legal.

I ask you, the viewing posters, or the OP, to clarify this point.

We call the breaking part "breaking" and the rolling-over-the-stop-sign-part "rolling over the stop sign". Yes, we're a creative bunch of people. Never heard a special term for it.

In Nevada we call it an Oakland stop. A friend of mine from the Bay Area explained that "In Oakland, if you come to a complete stop, that's how you get carjacked."

In Boston where I grew up it's simply called a rolling stop or a "stop the cah, ya dumb retahd."

I don't drive (& I never will) but I've heard relatives & friends use the term "cutting a California corner" when refurring to something some asshole driver did.

I lived in Nevada for most of my life & I have never heard the phrase "Oakland Stop" before.

We don't call it anything I guess... Depends on the person.

If me and a friend see it happen we'll shout "Hah, look at that idiot". But then in Dutch.

Odd...considering I live in California, and while people don't do it often, it's fairly rare. I certainly don't.
