Hands down, Battlefield Earth [2000].

I had to stay and watch the film just to see if it got better. It didn't. It was like watching a horrible train wreck, terrible to watch but I just couldn't look away.

For me it was Ultraviolet, and I'm genuinely surprised that nobody else has mentioned it already. It was overstylized, the action was poorly paced, it featured Milla Jovovich's worst acting ever (and that's saying something), and some parts were just so purely unbelievable as to be laughably ridiculous (high heels anyone?).

I know that it is of a genre that celebrates all of these flaws, but it just fell flat on its shiny purple ass. The thing that really killed it off was the unforgivable tedium of the fight sequences - a perfect illustration of how not to do an action flick right.

"In regards to Dune: Am I the only person disappointed that the original Dune film wasn't made? The one with set design by H.R.Giger (of Alien design fame) music by Pink Floyd and with the main villain played by Salvador Dali with a fee the size of most film budgets (and for an hours work a day)? It would have been a trainwreck. But a beautiful, glorious trainwreck.

In regards to Fight Club: You've missed the point. It's mocking the crap that you complain about it peddling. The Fight Clubbers abandon one mindless culture for another. The film doesn't support Tyler Durden, it's laughing at him. The message is to forget all that stupid teenage angst and just GROW UP."

As far as Dune goes, I wish that there was a way to make that movie properly. Perhaps there is. The two attempts there have been thus far were about as rewarding to watch as 2girls1cup.

Regarding Fight Club, I hope you're right that is indeed the message of the movie. That's what I thought at first, but it seems that everyone else who ever watched it thought that Tyler Durden was "deep" or "insightful" or some other crap. But I'll concede your point; if we spend the whole movie laughing at and mocking Tyler Durden, it's not bad at all. But if you think the movie was a "serious statement about modern society," then your emo eyeliner has quite possibly seeped into your brain.

(However, I still stand by my statement that the "plot twist" in Fight Club was perhaps the dumbest of all time.)

In that respect, I suppose Fight Club isn't much different that The Matrix. If you treat The Matrix as just another mindless and shooty movie, it's decent entertainment. But once who took the movie as some kind of serious statement started popping up, it killed the movie. "The Matrix is a system Neo. That system is our enemy." And along comes a mass of epic virginity talking about how the Matrix was an allegory to consumer culture or class consciousness or national identity and blah blah blah...

I totally hated A Perfect Storm... Hour of whining, hour of wind and rain, anticlimax. Very predictable. That's what you get from true stories. Only days after I watched the movie I saw a documentary about it on Discovery Channel. The documentary was more exciting.

Yes, as I stated, I did read the book, in the hopes that it would be better than the movie. Sadly, it was just as bad. Choke was a much better book, IMHO, but the movie was as terrible as Fight Club.

By the second one I guess you mean the Sci-Fi channel mini-series? I'd heard that it (or maybe the Children of Dune one) was actually pretty good? It's a pretty much impossible book to film, as so much of it relies on the characters thoughts and the implications they make. To film that you'd either have stupid internal monologues/exposition or people just pulling ideas out of their ass.

According to CHUD (http://www.chud.com/articles/articles/14250/1/YOU-GOT-IT-ALL-WRONG-DAY-FIVE/Page1.html, I love these guys) the vast majority of the world has got it wrong. I was too young when Fight Club first came out to see the proper impact it had, but if it's as bad as they say then I despair for society. Good call on The Matrix, it seems similar in the way it's spawned mass stupidity (loving the phrase "epic virginity" btw) but the one I see the most is morons spouting off "Duuude, what if life IS a simulation, nothing is real" and acting as if they're incredible deep and philosophical. See the philosophy thread OP:Is Reality A Dream.

New profile, although I've been coming to this website for over a year now.

The Sci-Fi Dune mini series was much better than the movie, but that's an awfully low standard to meet anyway. Baron Harkonnen was much better portrayed, but Paul Atredies was a whiny little *****. They did follow it up with a "Children of Dune" mini series, which I never watched. But I agree that it would be exceedingly difficult to make the movie properly. On the bright side, the series did spawn some decent RTS games way back in the day.

Thanks for that link, I think CHUD is going to be one of my new favorite websites now.

Eragon - For being not only a crappy movie, but the worst translation of any novel to a movie. Ever.

Dune - For making me rethink my previous statement of Eragon.

Cinderella II - For being a plotless, emotionless, pointless collection of crap. And for making me ashamed to admit I even saw it.

My Name Is Nobody - If you ever get the chance, get this movie, sit down with some friends, and laugh at this nonsensical western. It's so bad, it can only be enjoyed with a group of friends to laugh at it with.

Logan's Run.

My god, that was a waste of time.

I've watched ants that were less dull than that movie. I could've watched grass grow and it would have been a better use of my time. I could've pounded my forehead in with a claw hammer and received more intellectual stimulation than I got from Logan's Run. It needs to go the way of the E.T. game.
