Tenacious D? I like the songsJemJar said:OT
For me: Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny or Nacho Libre both made me genuinely want my two hours back.
Yes, as I stated, I did read the book, in the hopes that it would be better than the movie. Sadly, it was just as bad. Choke was a much better book, IMHO, but the movie was as terrible as Fight Club.willic767 said:you guys all do know fight club started as a book and was writen by chuck palahniuk, an idealist writer.it was not for action it was for thought. i loved it
By the second one I guess you mean the Sci-Fi channel mini-series? I'd heard that it (or maybe the Children of Dune one) was actually pretty good? It's a pretty much impossible book to film, as so much of it relies on the characters thoughts and the implications they make. To film that you'd either have stupid internal monologues/exposition or people just pulling ideas out of their ass.The Jack of Spades said:As far as Dune goes, I wish that there was a way to make that movie properly. Perhaps there is. The two attempts there have been thus far were about as rewarding to watch as 2girls1cup.
According to CHUD (http://www.chud.com/articles/articles/14250/1/YOU-GOT-IT-ALL-WRONG-DAY-FIVE/Page1.html, I love these guys) the vast majority of the world has got it wrong. I was too young when Fight Club first came out to see the proper impact it had, but if it's as bad as they say then I despair for society. Good call on The Matrix, it seems similar in the way it's spawned mass stupidity (loving the phrase "epic virginity" btw) but the one I see the most is morons spouting off "Duuude, what if life IS a simulation, nothing is real" and acting as if they're incredible deep and philosophical. See the philosophy thread OP:Is Reality A Dream.Regarding Fight Club, I hope you're right that is indeed the message of the movie. That's what I thought at first, but it seems that everyone else who ever watched it thought that Tyler Durden was "deep" or "insightful" or some other crap. But I'll concede your point; if we spend the whole movie laughing at and mocking Tyler Durden, it's not bad at all. But if you think the movie was a "serious statement about modern society," then your emo eyeliner has quite possibly seeped into your brain.
(However, I still stand by my statement that the "plot twist" in Fight Club was perhaps the dumbest of all time.)
In that respect, I suppose Fight Club isn't much different that The Matrix. If you treat The Matrix as just another mindless and shooty movie, it's decent entertainment. But once who took the movie as some kind of serious statement started popping up, it killed the movie. "The Matrix is a system Neo. That system is our enemy." And along comes a mass of epic virginity talking about how the Matrix was an allegory to consumer culture or class consciousness or national identity and blah blah blah...
