A new or revamped engine. It would go a long way in making the game feel like a truly new experience.
And whoever was the narrator in the reveal trailer. Let's not have him say "DRAGON BONE" (I swear I hear "bone" and not "born") like that again. I recognize his voice (it is the dude from Minority Report, right?), and he has a voice well-fit for the series, but I kind of cringed at that one part. Let's not have him be a character who dies 5 minutes into the game either.
Things I really really want:
-3rd person focus. Melee in first person is awful.
-Weightier feeling combat. It looks silly when you're repeatedly slashing at an enemy or they at you and it's like you're waving a feather at them.
-A New Vegas style faction system. This is something that always felt odd to me about Oblivion, then they implemented a great fix for it in New Vegas. Some factions just should not agree with each other so there should be consequences of siding with one over the others. It would also make subsequent playthroughs more unique.
-None of that silly, Oblivion-style enemy scaling. Another problem that was fixed in New Vegas. It makes the world feel like one that was here long before you came around. It gives a sense of danger when you're wandering into new territory. It also gives you a reprieve when you go back to that area you start the game in that you don't have to fight Ogres there.
-An area that changes throughout the game. Imagine if you could go to Kvatch in the beginning of Oblivion. You'd bring down the gate and rescue the survivors, then you could work on rebuilding. The story in Oblivion theoretically lasts years, so as you progress through the game you could return and see a once ruined city become a rebuilding village, then a flourishing town.
