Ok I just watched the Skyrim reveal trailer and I have one question... what's with the fucking pirates of the carribean music? Oblivion had that pirates of the carribean-esque theme and I heard the same riff at the end of the skyrim trailer. I can't stand that theme; it just sounds so generic. Not to fawn on morrowind again, but it had such an epic yet peaceful theme with beautiful crescendos and decrescendos... God I love that theme. That quality was sorely lacking with oblivion's and now apparently skyrim's.
I thought of it less as POTC music than Viking-style music, since Skyrim is Nord territory, and Nords have a definite Viking vibe to them.

Hey guys, in case you didn't know, they are using a new, in-house engine: http://twitter.com/Bethblog

Seeing lots of speculation about #tesv game engine. It's brand new... and it's spectacular!
Isn't that background picture from the new ID engine?
Yes, it's from Rage's id tech 5.

From what I know, the new engine is not tech 5, but may use some coding from it for rendering and the like.

I know alot of people want more realistic guards, but I have walked away from Oblivion with to many funny guard stories to want them to change.

I believe Gamebryo is no more.
The company is no more, but Beth have been working on the game for 2 years so I'd be very surprised if it's not built on Gamebryo.
In that case, prepare to be very surprised, as I just was.

Upon seeing that, my face slacked into a brain-dead grin akin to this:

Going all "hurrrrrrrr......"

Yeah, that's good news indeed. Very good news...oh yes... And if it only remotely looks like the orgasmic id 5 tech engine shown in that Rage background pic, I'll...I'll em...gee I don't know really. It's just that good...

Other than that:
- No more pillow-fight combat. All you did in Oblivion was whack someone with a pillow, whether it was axe or sword or club shaped, until the opponent spontaneously died. That's just boring. Ranged combat was like that too, having guards with two dozen arrows sticking out of the same spot.
- More and better voice actors.
- More and better character models.
- Better facial animations.
- Better and more fleshed out dialogue with more choice.
- More cause-and-effect type gameplay, Oblivion was too scripted. Think Mass Effect.
- A revamped leveling system, Fallout: New Vegas did it well I believe. No more bandits with super armour!

So nothing that's already been named.

More then 8 voice actors please.
Ha, beat everyone to the punch AND was the first comment.

Yes more voice actors, or at least a bigger ratio than one actor to a thousand voices.

This.

Also, varied spell animations. I'm sick of my 100 damage fireball looking the same as Flare.
This this this over 9000 times this.

My contribution:

LESS FUCKING MUDCRABS
Better 3rd person animations
Better weapon animations
More variety in dungeons.

A new game engine. Can the people actually look and move like people this time around, Bethesda?
They have used Gamebryo again as far as I know. Read it on some Russian website.
I think PC Gamer US is a better source for the opposite.

a new game engine

as a sub point. make the human beings act and run like human beings please?

more voice actors. hell hire a bum around the corner if you need to.

better story. or more involved at least, it was so detached that it felt like the main story was smaller than some side quest stuff.

i love the factions, make sure to keep those strong and really involved.

hopefully more interaction with that if you own a guild or become a leader, they can war with other guilds or other shit happens (like the blackwood company or whatever)

spells maybe be more varied, along with combat updated to modern specs

FIX the SCALING enemy level system.
Sure, I don't mind the enemies remaining challenging as I improve, but on the other hand, there is something to be said about being REWARDED for grinding out those skills and abilities... sometimes you WANT To feel like a badass demigod.
The problem is when you level up into a badass demigod along with a bunch of monsters that also turn into a bunch of badass demigods, except that at some point They became virtually UNBEATABLE even though we were the same level. That sucked... and if you didn't plan accordingly, it could break the game to wear you wouldn't be able to beat it... EVER. AT ALL. Because even the RATS at that point became demonic hellbeasts that would be end bosses for lesser games on the Wii.

maybe steam technology (steam trains steam cars etc.) and/or maybe primitive guns (like the gun from AC2)
