I keep answering these threads.. ill make it "quick" (bs its always long, so much to say) for what irks me the most
- balanced classes. All should be balanced so at max level they are all as good as the other, each in their own way.
- balancedmagic system: magic should be good, but not all-powerfull like it is in oblivion. It makes many skills useless (like lockpick, haggle etc). keep its sheer power and versatility for modders so they can make things easily but...
-.. you need to make all skills important and usefull. If magic can make a skill completely obsolete, then why bother with it (having the skill) at all? Why have run and jump as separate skills when they could be merged as one? I mean, when someone look at a skill they should always think that they WANT it.
- magic should be gear-dependant to a point. In oblivion warriors are fully gear dependant, rogues so-so, mages dont need gear -at all- to be powerfull. They only need two things: mana and knowing their spells.
- if mages can update their spells at will ($) at the arcane university (oblivion) then warriors and rogues whould be able to do the same with their gear, having them sharpened by experts craftmans or tempered with special coponents that boost them permanently, at a cost, of course.
- equipement should not be graded in power in a linear way (or maybe, not compeltely) My idea here is that i really REALLY dislike glass/demonic stuff as the "best" equipment in the game. They are UGLY, and arbitrarily the "best". Same with weapons. Every powerfull character in the game LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME. Where is strategy and variety?
What would be better (imho) is that all types of equipment (silver, steel, iron, elven, dwemer, etc) is actually a "behavior" category for the gear. For example elven weaponry is always lighter and swings quicker, but is more fragile than equivalent steel equipment. (i see steel as the "average in everything" gear.
Dwemer stuff could be heavier but vastly more durable than steel. Anyway.. And the way to make the equipment "fresh" is by adding "tiers" to each type of weapons, so when you level up you can find improved versions of each type of weapon, with the "behavior category" you can choose the gear that fits your fighting style, strategy and needs.
-equipement should look good, look (more or less) practical. Stuff like in demon soul looks great. Should have access back to spears, polearms and crosbows too.
- Ennemy leveling system should be improved to function kinda like the one in Oscure Oblivion Overhaul mod. (edit: so no bandit with glass armor and huge stats at lvl20) Actually a lot should be taken from OOO to make the game look better and be more immersive.
- combat system should be changed somewhat so it doesnt take 1000 arrows/sword slashes to kill anyone. Maybe add location damage (like headshots) or armor actually give decent protection to its wearer, so trying to hit unprotected parts would be more effective to fight them.
- leveling up should give points we spend wherever we damn please to upgrade our stats. As oppose to be force to train a specific skill for XYZ time to gain the maximum possible stat boost.. wich break immersion and make casual play vastly less efficient.
- more voice actors. better rigs for characters. better physics (too floaty in oblivion, low gravity and low friction).
- a crowd system like in assasin's creed 2.
- Coop multiplayer. I want to play with a few friends to explore and fight (like, max 4 players). Makes it way funnier this way imho.
(edit 2)
magical charges for weapons. THey must go away. Its a stupid system. The only way i can see it work is that your enchanted weapon always give a magical damage bonus, but when charged with "magic" is does more extra damage. And it should recharge by itself or relatively easily (no more of that stupid soultrap+soulgems)
