I play on consoles.
I feel sorry for you, oblivion is kinda one of those games you HAVE to play on the PC like starcraft, I mean oblivion is basically just made to be modded and tweaked and such and it is also nice to have all the hot keys.

OT:I want dismemberment and I want people to like they got hit not just stumble back also I would love different bows and stuff also it would be nice if you could do something like when I head shot someone let the arrow go though his head or something.

Proper vampirism.
I like how they handled it in oblivion. Maybe a few more tweaks like making you a lot faster as a vampire or giving you a cannibalism like option like in fallout where you can feast on dead bodies and apply buffs or debuffs in regards to feeding. Maybe add an "Infection" like element where you can have your own coven of vampire and it could be really cool! I didn't like having to steal as a vampire because all the shops closed at night so shopping became harder. Maybe a city for vampires?

Also I don't want to fast travel to a city and I spawn on fire and die becasue of the day/ night cycle.

More than four voice actors, please. Maybe some weapon/armor customization if you're in a good mood Bethesda.

Most of all I'd like a new engine. Maybe make things more... Dynamic?

I'd really like a wolf or fox race. Either that or bring back the werewolves and vampires from the previous two games.

Also, I'd like to see a variation of the perk system from Fallout. V.A.T.S. would be useful too (for archers anyway).

Everything should have their own level non-subjective to the players level. That's one thing that ruined Oblivion for me.

I don't know anything about the lore and I could be destroying what is left of your most treasured memories of incinerating giant spiders with magic but I would like to see a bump in time. This bump in time doesn't even need to be that far, give me a pistol and alchemy and I'm a happy happy nerd, or (and I know I'm taking it to far) give me a Steampunk/fantasy setting.

Like making your own designs and stuff but it most likely won't happen.
So you've never looked into modding then? Oblivion's one of the games with the biggest custom content modding communities in the world, try it out some day.

I'd most of all like to see more fantasy. More creativity. Shivering Isles made up for a lot of vanilla Oblivion, but I don't think I'm gonna bother playing if I see another freaking wolf in a grassy west-European field.
Some of us do't have the know how or good enough computers to get into modding, or prefer console games.

I fall into all of those categories.

Personally I would have prefered the game be set in Black Marsh. That area just sounds cooler.

Better melee combat. More parrying countering etc.

Better hand to hand combat. Other moves other than just punching. Some kicking, elbows, maybe a throw or two. Think Mirrors Edge and the Condemned Series. Also maybe some H2H weapons like katars, or spiked gauntlets.

If you can fight dragons in this game don't reduce the battles to a series of quick time events and pulling switches to set off Ballistas. That isn't the only way to kill big enemies. See Shadow of the Colossus and possibly the Monster Hunter series.

Dismemberment. You did it in Fallout 3 no reason you can't do it here. Anything to make the combat more visceral.

Continue to have deep and involved faction side quests. Those were and still are the strongest part of the series.

Actual necromancy. I keep hearing about necromancers but all they are are just summoning magic users.

Bring back the stronghold building from Morrowind. Go one step further have settlement building and customization. What? I like stronghold building.

Better skills leveling system. The concept itself isn't bad. It just hasn't had the right amount of tweaking yet. Maybe like the ability to turn on a training mode or something.

Hardcore mode.

I've got more but I've written enough. If Bethesda looks at what the most popular mods are for Oblivion and just borrows from there (like what Obsidian did with New Vegas. Only you know, make the game actually work) they should be good.

No.....no guns or steam, This kind of tech in a fantasy rpg is terrible, NO! lol

The old barter system from Morrowind (seriously, why did they ever get rid of that thing of beauty?), -insert generic saying about lack of voice actors here-, and BOOKS. I LOVE ME THOSE BOOKS. Well, lore anyway. I always liked The Elder Scrolls stories and stuff.

not just ayleid ruin, bring some dwenmer and other ruins, more variety asically.
more voice actors
the depth and complexity of morrowind, but with the user friendliness of oblivion
a varied environtment, for some reason ive got it in my head that because the setting is skyrim i can just see a constant snowy cliffside.
There wouldnt be Ayleid or Dwemer ruins in Skyrim neither of those races ever settled there. I share your concern about the games overworld, hopefully it wont just be like a giant Soltheim-because Solsheim wasnt that interesting. However, I'm shure Bethesda have carefully considered that and there will be enough variety.

I keep answering these threads.. ill make it "quick" (bs its always long, so much to say) for what irks me the most

- balanced classes. All should be balanced so at max level they are all as good as the other, each in their own way.

- balancedmagic system: magic should be good, but not all-powerfull like it is in oblivion. It makes many skills useless (like lockpick, haggle etc). keep its sheer power and versatility for modders so they can make things easily but...

-.. you need to make all skills important and usefull. If magic can make a skill completely obsolete, then why bother with it (having the skill) at all? Why have run and jump as separate skills when they could be merged as one? I mean, when someone look at a skill they should always think that they WANT it.

- magic should be gear-dependant to a point. In oblivion warriors are fully gear dependant, rogues so-so, mages dont need gear -at all- to be powerfull. They only need two things: mana and knowing their spells.

- if mages can update their spells at will ($) at the arcane university (oblivion) then warriors and rogues whould be able to do the same with their gear, having them sharpened by experts craftmans or tempered with special coponents that boost them permanently, at a cost, of course.

- equipement should not be graded in power in a linear way (or maybe, not compeltely) My idea here is that i really REALLY dislike glass/demonic stuff as the "best" equipment in the game. They are UGLY, and arbitrarily the "best". Same with weapons. Every powerfull character in the game LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME. Where is strategy and variety?
What would be better (imho) is that all types of equipment (silver, steel, iron, elven, dwemer, etc) is actually a "behavior" category for the gear. For example elven weaponry is always lighter and swings quicker, but is more fragile than equivalent steel equipment. (i see steel as the "average in everything" gear.
Dwemer stuff could be heavier but vastly more durable than steel. Anyway.. And the way to make the equipment "fresh" is by adding "tiers" to each type of weapons, so when you level up you can find improved versions of each type of weapon, with the "behavior category" you can choose the gear that fits your fighting style, strategy and needs.

-equipement should look good, look (more or less) practical. Stuff like in demon soul looks great. Should have access back to spears, polearms and crosbows too.

- Ennemy leveling system should be improved to function kinda like the one in Oscure Oblivion Overhaul mod. (edit: so no bandit with glass armor and huge stats at lvl20) Actually a lot should be taken from OOO to make the game look better and be more immersive.

- combat system should be changed somewhat so it doesnt take 1000 arrows/sword slashes to kill anyone. Maybe add location damage (like headshots) or armor actually give decent protection to its wearer, so trying to hit unprotected parts would be more effective to fight them.

- leveling up should give points we spend wherever we damn please to upgrade our stats. As oppose to be force to train a specific skill for XYZ time to gain the maximum possible stat boost.. wich break immersion and make casual play vastly less efficient.

- more voice actors. better rigs for characters. better physics (too floaty in oblivion, low gravity and low friction).

- a crowd system like in assasin's creed 2.

- Coop multiplayer. I want to play with a few friends to explore and fight (like, max 4 players). Makes it way funnier this way imho.

(edit 2)
magical charges for weapons. THey must go away. Its a stupid system. The only way i can see it work is that your enchanted weapon always give a magical damage bonus, but when charged with "magic" is does more extra damage. And it should recharge by itself or relatively easily (no more of that stupid soultrap+soulgems)

There's only two things I care about. Being relatively bug-free and coming out on time, with the former being far more important than the latter.

I'm probably Ninja'd but I actually dislike the customizable spells. It kind of ruins the game for me when you can deck yourself out with unholy unfair crap like that.
I thought that was quite cool actually. I mean, i could never afford to make more than 3 decent spells, but bby level 30, everyone/thing had spell reflect like crazy, so I ended up paralyzing myself for 2 minutes while they beat teh crap outta me.
I think what they need is to change the whole magic system. Make ice freeze, fire set stuff on fire, etc.
I don't usually care about this kinda thing, and as much as it doesn't make sense. Make magic more realistic.

Basically all of these choices sound amazing and I'm sure if they were all implemented correctly, some being a match, others being the forest fire, you'd have a great game. However, there's less than a year before Skyrim comes out, and I trust Bethesda will make another great game. I can't believe my eyes when I see some of the comments being "Not so boring" or "Not such terrible quests" I mean c'mon guys, in hindsight not every single possible quest was the greatest quest ever, but you can't tell me Martin's final battle, Lucien's sacrifice, Mannimarco's rise, Sheogorath's plight, the blood frenzy from the Fighter's Guild's competitor, and the unfortunate but voluntary death of the Gray Prince, all didn't make you feel even a little enjoyment when you first saw them. At the very least, give Bethesda some credit on what they did right. I've seen like 10 actual complimentory sentences towards Oblivion, the rest criticism. If I tell you what you did wrong, you can change that sure, but you might change something you did right too.
