Since it would be the last time you do a fatality.
YES! I am really hoping that the formula of "eloquent one-liner + punch in the face" will be a running joke in the trilogy.

First it was "I've had enough of your snide insinuations! *SHEPARD PUNCH!*"

Then "I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions! *SHEPARD PUNCH!*"

In the third one? How about "I've had enough of your pernicious misinformation! *FATAL SHEPARD PUNCH!*"

I would be pleased.

Well this is a 5 page thread so not sure if someone's already mentioned this but my main wish is for some fricking space combat! It take place in space. In a spaceship. With big guns on it. But the only time you get cool space battles is in cutscenes, with no player control.

Now I'm not saying bioware should include a whole extra game, since that's what realtime space battles would be, but I think there are ways of fitting space battles into the existing RPG framework that are worth considering. Some kind of minigame which gives the impression of actually controlling the starship, even if you are just giving the orders, not actually piloting it or firing the guns yourself. There's a *ton* of stuff in the codex about the mechanics of ship-to-ship combat in the ME universe, and a lot of it seems like it could lend itself to actual gameplay mechanics, like having to manage heat buildup in the ship so everyone doesn't get cooked.

I know the Normandy is meant to be a stealth ship, but it always seemed odd to me that you could approach and land on enemy planets with impunity, never having to run a blockade or evade scout ships, even when the codex claimed the planet's orbit was swarming with space pirates or geth or sea monsters or whatever.

All that said, if anyone was going to bring back the space combat sim genre, the ME universe wouldn't be a bad place to do it. Maybe someone (probably not bioware though) could do a spin-off; some kind of "Mass Effect 2.5" to bridge the gap before the next game. That won't happen but it would be so good if it did.

I still miss space combat sims.

EDIT:
I'd also like to say I actually much preferred ME2's inventory (or lack of) to ME1's. I didn't think it needed saying, but everyone posting seems to disagree. It just got tedious for me, the sheer quantity of junk I was carrying around, and constantly having to sift through it going "will I ever need this rifle or can I junk it? Is this pistol better than that one? This armour isn't as good as anything my squad has but maybe I'd better keep it in case someone on the ship needs an upgrade. Even if it does look like a clown suit."
Plus, as Seamus has pointed out, looting dead bodies just isn't heroic.

never show tali's face. Her aura of mystery would be gone, plus everyone is so built up on this it would be a big disappointment for alot of people and send a large chunk of the fan base plummeting.

People that keep mentioning multiplayer, it wouldn't really work in a co-op scenario because the main sell of Mass Effect is the choice and dialogue stuff, if they do that for your co-op partners too then it would be too much work and cut-scenes will go on way too long.

I prefer it the way it is with only single player.

Another few things I want to add: using an ability more makes it stronger.

Diversity of missions: like assassinations from on high, chases throughout the citadel, hunting the person down in the normandy and having a space battle with them, stalking missions, information gathering, infiltration, ambushes etc...

Different ways to complete each mission: Like your mission is something like "This base has some information that could be very bad in the wrong hands, destroy or retrieve it". Then you have different ways of destroying it, you can plant a charge at pillars of the base, you can find the computer hack into it and destroy it or send yourself a copy then blow up the base.

Non-linear gameplay, as Yahtzee said ME1 had a sense of bigness that ME2 lacked, most of the time you were just running down hallways killing anything in your way.

Second thing is no collecting people missions like in ME2. I thought it would be cool to go round planets and space stations gaining information and rumours on suitable team mates. And then following that information to find the people. Hated you were given a load of dossiers and sent of to get them.
Yes! That would be a sweet idea. Having you be able to locate and recruit your own members instead of having their locations handed to you. Perhaps even make some of them non-recruitable based on your choices. If you killed Wrex and destroyed Virmire I'm sure some Krogan wouldn't be too keen on joining your party.

Well unlike most people in here, I don't want space combat. Edi and Joker fly the ship, I command the battlefield, lets keep it that way. But Shepard standing behind joker while giving instructions that I choose, yup, I am all for that. But no, I don't want to fly a ship in space battles.

Maybe a stand alone space warfare game set in the Mass Effect universe, but I don't want space combat part of Mass Effect 3.

Cut the scanning time-wastery altogether and just make everything based off credits, use that new vehicle for planet sections(Hammerhead? don't remember, but it was 500 million times better than the mako), and i expect to be able to punch a reporter again.

am I the only one who would like to see all the party members you assemble on the battlefield at one time? It just seems a bit stupid to have a team of like ten elite soldiers and only take two of them out on a mission to save a planet or something. It would be cool having the entire team out with you and commanding them all at once, though it might get a bit overcomplicated.
I'm pretty sure I would like to see some of the characters from ME1 make a return, especially Wrex, as selectable characters for a team. And I would definetely like to see the characters from ME2 stay with you, I mean, where else are they going to go? You are essentially space-rogues now. I didn't like the way you attached yourself to the ME1 characters and then you were told 'oh, you're dead' and they all acted like they didn't care about you.
On a narrative side, I'd like to see the whole thing end on a big bang. I didn't like the ME1 ending, yeah it was good and all, but there was no sense of urgency or climax. With ME2, you got that. Something bigger and better, resolving it all but maybe leaving a little bit of room for franchise spin-offs? I'd hate for Mass Effect to just end here, I mean this has become my favourite thing like ever. If this game was it, I'd be really dissapointed.
I might look it over if they keep the mining system from ME2. Yeah, I hated it, but I liked the way that you could upgrade powers and weapons. I mean, a better resource system would go down well, but I could live with it. And I'd definetely like to see a class customisation option, like you are able to pick your powers and specialisations, instead of sticking with conformed ones you are assigned.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get everything outta the way.

I want Shepard to die. May seem a little morbid but here me out. In the last game the permanent death of the good commander was only achieved by being a total asshat and ignoring every one around you and forgetting that your ship could do well with a shiny new gun and armor. If you wanted to do that one by one the team mates you acquired would drop like flies to the most insignificant rockets to the face, but you could still complete your mission. So your victorious, the people of the fringe worlds every one said not to colonize are safe to be terrorized by something else in the next game.

I want an option to willing sacrifice the commander to complete the mission, and a possibility for that sacrifice to be in vain. If this is to be the last game with Shepard i want to be able to go out in a blaze of glory. on the same token if i'm feeling selfish and full of a strange will to live, the option to not sacrifice myself would be great.

other things
- have grunt grow up and lead clan Urdnot, Wrex rejoins my team.
- Bring back the massive weapon selection from the last game ME1. sure not all the weapons were exciting but when you did find a powerful tool of destruction you felt like a god for a while.

I'm really liking this thread. Especially since whenever i've mentioned how less than epic ME2 was people want to bite first, think second. Now I get to see all the same points over again. Honestly all ME1 needed was a "sell all white or grey items" button and problem solved.

What i'd really like to see is one NPC go "need help? sure no problem" and just joins up with no side quest or anything. Then the whole time he/she is in your squad Shepard looks at him/her like he/she is expecting something. Every time that Shepard tries to get a backstory out of them there's one word answers. Maybe funny comments but no huge backstory. Then at the end some kind of surprise ending. That would be awesome.

Oh and Joker with super cyborg mechanical legs of ass kicking-ness. Hobbling around the Normandy 2 was cute but... (why didn't the assault rifle recoil break Joker's arm? why do magnetic weapons have recoil? ooh can of worms, shouldn't open)

I think the system was fine tuned well enough in the second game. There were a lot of improvements, and the scanner was fine. I found myself distracted for an hour mining resources on my first playthrough. When I released what I was doing, I was sitting on about 100k of each resource. Excluding Element Zero... that stuff is a ***** to find.

I found the missions fun, and the story great. I hope the third one is as good as the first 2.

Also, Joker wouldn't have broken his arm from firing a weapon, as he didn't break any bones when they activated the Main Reactor Core and jumped to FTL, he fell on his ass then. He states in the first game that his disease is actually located in his legs alone, otherwise he'd probably have issues piloting each Normandy.

Personally I'd like to be able to explore bigger parts of the planets and locations that you visit.

yes, that i can definetely agree with. Like with Illium, you could see that it was a big sprawling city, but you could only explore a small chunk of it. And the Citadel especially, I mean, they downsized it so much in ME2 from ME1, when it wasn't that big to begin with. I'm not saying have ME3 become like GTA in the Citadel, but there should at least be some depth to all these places

As much fun as ME2 was, it felt too... mainstream. I want ME1 back. All of it. Even the elevators. There, I said it. They were great, it was so awkward it was fantastic. The transit system was there so I don't know why everyone was complaining so much.

ME1 just had a great atmosphere throughout, especially the music. When they said ME2 would be darker, I remember thinking "how?". Answer: filters and 'edgy' directing. No, ME1 had a constant sense of foreboding tension and it was brilliant.

Which leads me to my next problem, the Reapers. The conversation in ME1 with Sovereign was possibly my favourite moment in gaming. So amazingly awesome yet unsettling as you were talking to a physical representation of incomprehensible evil. It was brilliant. ME2 started explaining them in a little too exact a way. Here's what I want, don't explain them. Leave it. Think of all the great mysteries like Twin Peaks or something, once it's explained, it's boring. No explanation will ever be enough, leave them as they are. Incomprehensible and terrifying.

I'd like the individuality each planet had in ME2 with the exploration system from ME1. I want the decisions to actually have a tangible impact instead of seeing a character once in a bar or getting an email from Bioware saying , "Hey, remember so-and-so you helped two years ago? They say thanks, that will be all".

Maybe keep the ammo from ME2, it did feel better. But everything else back to ME1, inventory, health, upgrades etc. And please fix the music. I love ME2's in a Hans Zimmer way but I loved ME1 in a more Clint Mansell manner.

Wow, that turned into a bit of a rant!

-Better neutral options. Perhaps a whole neutral tree, like paragon and renegade?

-Situations where only paragon or only renegade will solve them. That way one has to be more careful about what he or she chooses. For instance, in Mass Effect 2, regardless of whether one picked paragon or renegade, they both usually had the same effect, but gave different points. I don't think that should always fly- if I'm speaking to some sleezy underworld guy, he shouldn't respond well to paragon. And if I'm speaking to some high and mighty hero, then it wouldn't make sense for him to be intimidated by a renegade option.

-Multiple paragon/renegade options. For instance, if I am talking to some bouncer, trying to get into a club, for my renegade choices, I could have "hit him," "bribe him," or "threaten him." It would really flesh out the conversation system.

-I know that they have to make paragon/renegade affect gameplay somehow, but I'm getting tired of being pigeonholed into one path simply because if I don't consistently choose either the paragon or renegade option, I won't be able to do anything productive in later conversations because all of the good options will be grayed out. If that's the case, I might as well choose paragon or renegade at the beginning, and then have the game auto-play through those conversation options. I prefer variety in the way I play Shepard.
Quoted especially for more/better neutral options. It'd be nice to see neutral as more than "not enough XYZ points for the other option".
