Real Time Strategy and Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games should be computer exclusive because they don't work well without a keyboard and mouse.

RTSs and MMOs only really work on the PC. They both require an amount of control and micromanagement that isn't possible with a controller.

However, most other games seem equally suited between the two. I prefer dual thumbsick to WASD movement, but I like my mouse precision for aim.

strategy should only be on PC. Strategy games just do not work on consoles, that is a well known fact. I know I cant stop them but developers seriously need to stop trying to make a console RTS.

I also believe that games like god of war only work on consoles because of the "button mashing" style of the genre. the same with fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter

None of them, each genre has games that are acceptable for Console and PC - that's including RTS.

FPSs on the other hand seem better suited on consoles. Lets face it you need the 360 degree analog stick to strafe effectively or even just shoot whats behind you fast enough. I remember having so much difficulty playing quake and using the arrow keys to move around. You could just buy a USB controller, I have one too BTW, but why not just play it on your console in the first place?!?
I think you'll get a lot of devided opinion / outright hate on a statement like this.
FPS's are a mixed bag...

The mouse is far superior to an analog stick for aiming, (consoles get around this by using something that to a PC player would be 'cheating', namely auto-aim.)

But the keyboard is a bit of a hassle at times when you need quick and precise control of your movements.

The end result is that it kind of evens out.
(although of course, the Wii control scheme for FPS's seems like a middle ground between the two; Unfortunately, it's hamstrung by the method used to turn around. The pointer is great, but using the screen edges as a way of turning is rather messy.)

So... No. PC vs Console is not a clear thing at all when it comes to the FPS...
Different, yes. But you'll find people in both camps claiming FPS games are unplayable on the other's control scheme...

I've yet to play an RTS for any console that's actually easy to control. Sorry RTS NEEDS a keyboard and mouse no arguing that.

how bout we don't have any games that are exclusive to consoles or PC's and instead we share the wealth. except facebook and myspace games they can stay there.
I agree with this, and I would be a little pissed to see Farmville on PS3

FPS for consoles :D yes, I'm vastly outnumbered on that.
I don't care about mouse-aiming, PCs don't have tilt-sensitive walking!

RTSs can not be done properly on consoles though.

That is entirely a matter of personal preference at this point. One is not innately more intuitive than the other IMO.
I disagree to a point.

I agree that it's a matter of personal preference, which is generally created by amassing experience with whichever control system.

However I've talked to a number of Developmental Educators and the like and when it comes to intuitive at it's most basic level - as in having no prior experience with either control system - the mouse/keyboard system has the edge because of the mouse. The mouse is intuitive... the keyboard isn't and the controller isn't.

On the other hand, when most people talk about 'intuitive controls' they tend to mean in relation to existing control systems... And anything that doesn't piss about with how the controls are mapped into the game is going to be intuitive to anyone with some experience at using that control system. For example, WASD keys for FPS movement on PC M/K control systems is intuitive whereas using the Function Keys would be counterintuitive.
Well I can't argue with that, you have a good point. But as someone who is used to both forms of control, I don't really see a huge difference in my accuracy when comparing mouse or controller input. Most of the adamant PC gamers I have talked to swear the mouse is like 1000X better and I don't see it.

Well, RTS is the obvious choice.

Consoles can keep racing games, they don't really work on PC.

RTS! They can't work on the consoles. It just turns into a clusterfuck of weird button presses and Lewis and Clarking your way through menus using the analogue sticks. The only RTS that worked well on a console was TC's End War only because 85% of it was all voice control.

Well i believe I've started some controversy with my topic. I was merely just stressing FPS are better suited to consoles in my opinion, and don't *facepalm* just yet plz...... I only stated that RTSs should only be confined to the PC, I never stated that FPS should be confined to console. Most of you say the mouse + keyboard combination is all you need for FPS that's fine but I've always had better control with a console controller, with the keyboard i always find myself miss clicking and running out of room for my mouse sometimes. With regard to more control, on the console controller all you have is your thumb for movement on the analog stick but on the computer you need 3 fingers just for movement. I would sometimes need to take a quick look to see which key i need to press to move around which would lead to stalling and ineffective game-play.

What, you mean quick and precise control like this?
Only possible with a mouse and keyboard, a console controller is just too slow.

RTS games are the only ones that should stay on pc.

I remember playing red alert on my PSX and it's a little tough, scrolling down all the buildings and units to build the ones you want. Just takes a longer time to react to things.

Were as on a pc, you can press one button to build something or move your mouse and click on it.

I wonder how many people will say FPS.

I love my RTS' on the PC...there is too much to do to and manage on the console.
FPS' I would agree @ first when I first got my xbox and couldn't play them (aiming and running grrr) to save my life, but now that I got used to them I don't mind them on a console...although yes the mouse and WASD are much easier.

But other than RTS it all depends on what the player is used to I guess
