Real Time Strategy and Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games should be computer exclusive because they don't work well without a keyboard and mouse.
I think you'll get a lot of devided opinion / outright hate on a statement like this.Crypticonic said:FPSs on the other hand seem better suited on consoles. Lets face it you need the 360 degree analog stick to strafe effectively or even just shoot whats behind you fast enough. I remember having so much difficulty playing quake and using the arrow keys to move around. You could just buy a USB controller, I have one too BTW, but why not just play it on your console in the first place?!?
I agree with this, and I would be a little pissed to see Farmville on PS3SnootyEnglishman said:how bout we don't have any games that are exclusive to consoles or PC's and instead we share the wealth. except facebook and myspace games they can stay there.
Well I can't argue with that, you have a good point. But as someone who is used to both forms of control, I don't really see a huge difference in my accuracy when comparing mouse or controller input. Most of the adamant PC gamers I have talked to swear the mouse is like 1000X better and I don't see it.RhomCo said:I disagree to a point.Dark Templar said:That is entirely a matter of personal preference at this point. I agree that it's a matter of personal preference, which is generally created by amassing experience with whichever control system.
However I've talked to a number of Developmental Educators and the like and when it comes to intuitive at it's most basic level - as in having no prior experience with either control system - the mouse/keyboard system has the edge because of the mouse. The mouse is intuitive... the keyboard isn't and the controller isn't.
On the other hand, when most people talk about 'intuitive controls' they tend to mean in relation to existing control systems... And anything that doesn't piss about with how the controls are mapped into the game is going to be intuitive to anyone with some experience at using that control system. For example, WASD keys for FPS movement on PC M/K control systems is intuitive whereas using the Function Keys would be counterintuitive.
What, you mean quick and precise control like this?CrystalShadow said:I think you'll get a lot of devided opinion / outright hate on a statement like this.Crypticonic said:FPSs on the other hand seem better suited on consoles. FPS's are a mixed bag...
The mouse is far superior to an analog stick for aiming, (consoles get around this by using something that to a PC player would be 'cheating', namely auto-aim.)
But the keyboard is a bit of a hassle at times when you need quick and precise control of your movements.
The end result is that it kind of evens out.
(although of course, the Wii control scheme for FPS's seems like a middle ground between the two; Unfortunately, it's hamstrung by the method used to turn around. The pointer is great, but using the screen edges as a way of turning is rather messy.)
So... No. PC vs Console is not a clear thing at all when it comes to the FPS...
Different, yes. But you'll find people in both camps claiming FPS games are unplayable on the other's control scheme...
