Mass Effect 2:

When Kelly was being liquified while still alive, screaming and beating on the wall, locked in a claustrophobic little pod, everyone panicking to get the others out, tense music.

That was disturbing to say the least.

After that, I had to consciously remind myself that she wasn't a real person.

Every single time I see her on the next playthrough, I think to myself "I really don't want you to die!"
Well why don't you
go through the Omega 4 relay faster then and save her?
:)

Mass Effect (just to name one that hasn't been said too much), in my opinion a movie will be even better.
Nah, I think one of the reasons ME and ME2 were so amazing was that they had the interactive aspect. You can make so many choices and change some of the outcomes, but almost no matter what you do, it'll still be very pretty and have a really good story.

Well, yeah, I will. I just didn't know that it would happen the first time

No, not really, a game has yet to make me feel any serious emotion.

Mind you, the end of Halo 3 had a bit of an impact, sitting there with my dad thinking about our history of playing through the previous Halo titles together.

My many years of playing TimeSplitters 2 have been spent in a near-constant state of euphoric glee, especially when playing split-screen with four similarly dickish friends. It manages to be fun even while losing, because some deaths can be brilliant. Death by a claymore planted at the bag's spawn point? Usually would piss me off, but I laugh because I know I can get them back by sticking a mine to their face.

I don't know how far your in on Red Dead... So I shan't spoil any for you. But, it gets even more emotional towards the end. As in it can rival alot of the other games in this thread.

As for me, the Metal gear series have all envoked a serious emotional response from me, Microwave Tunnel from MGS4? Hell yes I cried.

I supposed, fear-wise, Resident Evil 1 when I first watched it get played through (keep in mind, I was only about 9 or 10 at the time). When Yawn the snake attacks you in the attic, scared the hell out of me!

For sadness, at the time it'd have been Aeris death in FFVII though more up to date, I'd say near the end of The Last Remnant disk 1...
When Emma goes 1-on-1 with The Conquerer and ends up getting killed in the process.

OR

When Sora sacrifices himself with the dark Keyblade to revive Kairi in Kingdom Hearts

BTW. I do have one question relating to Aeris' death. If all characters (when you play as them) can be shot, beaten, slashed with blades, blasted with lasers, crushed under the foot of a skyscraper-sized being (Diamond Weapon) and hit by a supernova... Why couldn't they just use a Phoenix Down on Aeris?

I know about the ending, but I haven't played it myself yet. The reason the spoilers didn't upset me was because I totally guessed it right. ^_^

I'm looking forward to it, though.

The good ending of Bioshock for me.
I find it to be one of the best endings EVER.

GTA IV
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2

I've never been as bummed out in a game as I was in Liberty City when certain someone proved to be a bit someone else.

ME: When you gotta make THE choice.

ME2: When I failed to manage the ending the way I wanted. Also when certain companion characters were first introduced. AND a whole bunch of other things.

I was thinking about all these characters and the involving story, when this song came on...

Along with the story, the expansive view, and my immersion in the world, this song was the perfect catalyst to make my heart move. I don't know what I felt, but I felt it. A little melancholy, with some nostalgia thrown in.

I just sat there, taking it in, feeling my heart beat in my chest, realizing that a video game was making me feel.

What game, if any, has had that one single greatest emotional response from you? Or are you more about the score, less about the drama?
Just so you know this song is by an artist called Jose Gonzalez, who has some great music videos on youtube in a similar melancholy/solitary vein.

OT: Back when I was younger there were a couple games that made me sad at the end, most notably Illusion of Gaia (Illusion of Time for all you europeans). I thought it was awful that the main characters had been through so much together and, when everything was done, they end up not even remembering each others' faces. Mostly I'm just kinda sad when a good game ends, though.

I don't think I've played a game that evoked such a strong emotion as sadness, or any strong emotions for that matter. If I have, I don't remember. It actually makes me feel like...less of a person for not experiencing such games capable of bringing forth emotions such as these. I probably sound stupid for saying that, but that's how I feel. If I could, I would get my PS2, my N64, my 360, and play those games just so I could experience what they bring to our hearts. Maybe I will do this one day.

Final Fantasy X made me feel really good while playing it. I'm not sure what it was about it, but the entire game felt very good.

Nostalgia only makes it better, and remembering it reminds me of good times in my life.

A lesser but still noteworthy one was in FFX when you find out the 'catch' to the final summoning... I really hated Tidus up to that point (little cheery uppity **** that he was), but seeing the mental punch to the gut he just went through I couldn't help but feel bad for the guy.
That whole game got me, especially the ending. The first time I played through that I was choked up for at least ten minutes.

Also, finishing Kingdom Hearts 2 leaves me feeling very happy. Its relentlessly cheerful, and I smiled for hours after I last finished it.

The end of Okami where everyone is saying somewhat along the lines of "Ammy we love you! You can do it!"

Man that just got me ;__;

Most of what has happened to Ethan in Heavy Rain, especially the brutal fucking endings.
I forced myself to look away at those points.

I was very sad when Carmine died in Gears 2. I hadn't even played the game. Only watched Youtube videos...
Yeah, I played that.
Pretty damn depressing. Poor guy.

Braid just had shivers going all across my back for the majority of it.

When

the princess starts running away from you

was the biggest goosebumps I have ever had in my life.

Then when the entire story suddenly made sense, I just sat there, stunned.

Ocarina of Time, the Temple of Time is one of my favourite places in a videogame.

The mummies still scare me.

Majora's Mask, the scenes with skullkid all give me shivers. Also Anju's story.

Argh. OoT and Majora's mask are pretty much the most perfect games ever created.

A lot of parts in Fallout 3 hit me pretty hard.
The desolate landscape and strange music was really emotional.
Getting banished from Vault 101 after returning there felt really sad too.
