And most of the time when people make new accounts they are just banned again. A ban means you aren't wanted or welcome here, it doesn't mean go make a new account.
Correct. If my account got banned, I'd be extremely sad, even if it was my own fault. The Escapist is my internet home. I live here...like Golem, I hide under the rocks and live with my precious...

That really touched my heart.

I would throw an imaginary bomb at the mods...or something.

They ban your IP address anyway, so you'd need to use a completely different computer to make a new account. Only way to get around it practically therefore is to use an internet cafe or, like me, use the campus computers at university...

Anyway, if I got banned I'd leave quietly, or possibly new account on university computers.
If I went to all that trouble to get back on here the mods would see right through the shit grammar and ban me again.

I would probably send the mods a snarky one-liner and walk off into the moonlight.

Then I would just bother the Escapists I've added on Twitter.

Simple deal.
awww, i feel loved.
...I was more talking about the ladyscapists, but okay.

This is an exact interpretation of what would be my reaction.

*clears throat*

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

WE ARE DOOMED! ALL DOOOOOOOOMED! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BACK TO GAMETRAILERS AGAIN!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *runs to corner and sobs like a child*

Alright I'm done now. I'd probably beg the mods though.

*buy teh haloz would like to assure everyone that the aforementioned interpretation wouldn't be his actual reaction, and totally realized he just flip-flopped there.*

Depends if I deserved it. If I did I'd sit down and shut up. If I didn't I'd contact the people in charge.

Don't most people nowadays have a dynamic IP address?
I'm not really sure, to be honest.
I thought IP banning was still effective enough to implement it as a tactic. If not, there's always alias checking technology and so forth. Any free forum comes with the multi-nic checks.

Still, a good point.

You don't need to use a new computer. My IP address was banned during the March Mayhem fiasco. See if I ever participate in that frakking contest again....

Anyway, all you need to do is change the IP address of your cable/dsl modem. A lot of people I asked about how to do this said it was very difficult, but that's not true at all. It's incredibly easy. Just bring up the settings for your router, and change the router's mac address. Then unplug the power and the coaxial cable from the modem for about 1-2 minutes. Also unplug the power from your router. When you reconnect everything back up, the ISP should issue your modem a new ip address, and your access to the escapist will be restored. Then you can make a new account.

EDIT: This, of course, will not work if your cable company issues your modem a static IP. In that case, you would have to call your cable company and request them to change it. The good news is that most cable companies only issue static IP's to business accounts, not residential. But in the odd chance they did issue a static ip to your residential account, it's no big deal to call them and request a change due to "security concerns". They won't ask questions.
