Final Fantasy, they should just die in a hole, I hate FF
Let's play a game shall we? This thread is in Gaming Discussion, so let's try and have a discussion rather than shouting our opinions at each other.

Why should it die in a hole? Why do you hate it?

I personally think it should keep going. They consistently churn out interesting (albeit badly written) story lines, are one of the few RPGs to make use of their epic length, have excellent music and wonderfully indepth combat systems.

Your turn.

most of the nintendo mainstays, seriously how long can they ride games that are frankly absurd and repetitive for sooo long? also the sonic games, it was getting a bit weak by sonic 3. and the damn football games, reskinning does not a new game make! release an update or something, the poor knuckle draggers that buy that shit need protecting from themselves half the time without EA (the first big offender that comes to mind) exploiting them.

Emo teenagers fighting some weirdoh corporatinos/etc is interestring? And since it's badly written and strictly linear, it's hardly enjoyable. The characters are bland, shallow and have 1)supid haircuts 2)ridiculous weapons. Epic lenght is a very flexible term. 400 hours long- epic? That's how long a proper RPG can last, or at least keep you interested. I don't agree on the music, I've heard it and thought "riiight, is this the best ever?" Morrowind wipes the floor with FF in terms of music(and everything else).
Indepth combat systems? Yay, standing in a line and waiting for your turn is truly "indepth". Wouldn't you rather decide for yourself where you stand, when do you swing your sword/fire your gun and when to jump? I know I would. Executing complex maneuvres during combat is something I connect with Mass Effect, not an FF game.

On that matter, it's called "final fantasy". When is the finale coming? It should have ended a long time ago.

Personally, I'm so tired of Madden. I haven't bought a new Madden game in five years. It's the same thing just with different players and a few new gimmicks. Ooooh and the graphics get incrementally better each year too. Big deal. I actually find playing the remake of Techmo Bowl more fun than playing Madden anyway.

I think every series that came out after, say, monopoly. That would do it.
Sure, I wouldn't be able to play Zombie Panic!, and would subsequently lose all will to live, but I wouldn't have my heart broken year after year after year by rich TRAITOR companies.

Halo games. I agree. They are all the same, and are not even that good to begin with.
Ridiculous statement. You sir, are a fool.
To this my good gentleman, I take exception.

Halo games are indeed the same thing copy and pasted over with a few teaks and maybe one or two new enemies. Also, I have played many games, as I assume most people on this forum have, and I have never been so bored as I was with Halo.

Now, to give it credit, it has strong multiplayer. I had tons of fun linking Xboxes and playing with eight or ten friends. This however, does not a great game make. You have to judge it on the package. For this, it falls short.

Hmmm, what was that game? Oh wait, Guitar Hero. I mean, it's not like that series has had over 10 sequels since the last good one (Legends of Rock).

I think they should let Mario rest in peace. Mario and his brother are the heroes of our childhoods it was cool when we were playing em on the 16 bit colored games now its just sad how nintendo keeps poppin more and more games with them. In all those years noone could come up with a new hero to nurture? Cmon!

I do however disagree with the Final Fantasy closure many users want.
I havent played alot of them but i do know that the diff numbers are totaly different stories and worlds. . .its just a bunch of games that sometimes cross paths but generaly are totaly different from one another so why the hate?
not to mention that FF:Dissidia turned out to be a diamond in the fighting games genre!

Not a Halo fan either, but...this.

I'm old enough to remember Mario on Atari- I hated him then, I hate him now. -_-

The Sims (Never have gotten this one)

Grand Theft Auto (I was on board until Vice City, but the formula is old now)

Final Fantasy (The last good one was part 9!)

Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time is one of the pinnacles of gaming. Everything since then has been a retread.)

Okay, that describes 7. To some extent 8. Tidus is pretty emo. But what about Terra? Or Zidane? Nothing emo there, no corparations in 6 either.

And since it's badly written and strictly linear, it's hardly enjoyable. The characters are bland, shallow and have 1)supid haircuts 2)ridiculous weapons. Epic lenght is a very flexible term. 400 hours long- epic?
Nothing wrong with linearity. When the game is as plot driven as FF it's very hard to get the same exploration of Elder Scrolls or Fallout. Look at Mass Effect, the story-line and exploration were so disconnected as to be entirely seperate games almost. Disagreeing with haircuts and weapons is a personal artistic choice, has nothing to do with game quality. And what is ridiculous about the hair and weapons in 8? Or 6 for that matter. Or 9.

And no RPG is 400 hours long. It's possible to SPEND 400 hours on a game, but even side-quests won't fill it to that length. Unless you spend ages backtracking, exploring every last nook and cranny for every single secret item. Using Mass Effect and Fallout 3 as examples again, yes it's possible to spend 400 hours exploring, but the actuall story part is still only about 15 hours.
That's how long a proper RPG can last, or at least keep you interested. I don't agree on the music, I've heard it and thought "riiight, is this the best ever?" Morrowind wipes the floor with FF in terms of music(and everything else).
Morrowind's music is pretty good yeah, but it's entirely atmospheric. I've got the soundtrack and I still can't actually remember how the music goes apart from the main theme. It's purely in the background, utterly impossible to hum
And Morrowind has some major flaws as well. The clunky combat, the difficulty in mixing up magic with weaponry. The uselessness of magic at low levels. The horrendously easy to exploit item creation system.

Waiting for your turn is part of every turn based game, it does not make it inherently inferior to real time. Perhaps combat system wasn't quite appropriate, maybe development system would be more appropriate. Look at Materia, junctioning, the sphere-grid, that batshit combo-tagging-sequential-thing from 13. Now compare it to the generic boring Kill-Xp-Level-Increase numbers in stats of Mass Effect.
On that matter, it's called "final fantasy". When is the finale coming? It should have ended a long time ago.
Mocking the name? Grasping at straws aren't we? Look at the stupid number of people who have made that joke already. Try and be original. The reason behind the name is pretty well known: Square were on the verge of going bust and named it as such in a bit of gallows humour.
