VGChartz Hardware data for the period 05th Jan 2008 to 22nd Nov 2008:
http://vgchartz.com/hwtable.php

Console-----------------Wii--------------PS3-------------X360
UK-----------------2,413,980---------831,122---------948,274
France-----------1,503,798---------632,084---------399,309
Germany-----------960,547---------428,938---------296,876
Spain----------------697,087---------603,053---------340,514
Italy------------------479,291---------335,137---------303,515
Scandinavia------360,436----------241,639---------185,592
Other Europe-----617,291---------681,658---------386,502

Total---------------7,032,430------3,753,631-------2,860,582

So there have been more PS3s sold in Europe than 360 since the begining of this year, and the only place it is the other way around is the one and only native English country.
What really pisses me off is the fact that the Wii sells way more than any other console and all the games are horrible...

But ok, that chart is just for Europe. I have already mentioned that I live in the states and it doesn't make a bit of difference because the balls are inert. I mean because I don't live in Europe. Also, Europe's economy isn't going bat-fuck crazy.

It's mostly preference, and most people prefer the games, the Live, the feel, the Rumble, etc, of the 360. Not to say there aren't sony fans out there, but with Sony getting games like Resistance and Motorstorm, it's hard to say that there's much that it does better. Yeah, it's got blueray, but at this point, you can buy a 360 and a bluray player for the same as a PS3.
yea, but to do that you would have to get an arcade 360 and still have to get a friggin hard drive.

The only problem is competition, mainly that the 360 (going first) got a whole lot of exclusive deals and a whole lot of fanbase while the PS was still in it's wee 2-stage. The 360 has more games, and, quite frankly, Much better games.

Thing is, most people can't spend a lot on stuff anymore, and gaming costs a lot, so the most output for the least input is going to be the most efficient entertainment venture for the middle class american. 360 has more variety, better variety, and Respectable games: Halo, GoW, Mass Effect, Any JRPG, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead. Versus PS3 with what, MGS4 (which I haven't ever heard of after the release) the Persona Series (my personal favorite games), and final fantasy.

At this point it's just good to be rich and buy both.
you are obviously hating and bashing on the PS3 please be aware that your opinion is not always the right one nor the only one

Well, scary as it may be, I'm not into Final Fantasy. I hate games like that, or just about any game in which a weapon in bigger than yourself. Or just about any JRPG.

Advertisements do nothing for me. Do you really think that most people who own a TV don't know what a PS3 is? Maybe advertising their games a little more, because I only know of like 3 PS3 games.
The vast majority of people I know (who are not gamers) don't know what a PS3 is. If they've heard of one, they usually think it's a souped-up PS2.
So yeah, advertisements might help.
Woah, really? I have yet to meet a person who hasn't at least HEARD of a PS3, and I don't just mean online. I've never met anyone who's never heard of it, gamer or not.
Well I've never in my life seen a PS3 ad that wasn't on Youtube (apart from one LBP one), so maybe its just underadvertised here? Or maybe I'm just missing all the ads, I don't watch a huge amount of TV.

Plus any advertisements done by Sony are pretty messed up and confusing.
Obviously, as pointed out by many, the price on the thing isn't it's only problem. It's advertising is just crazy. I read the advert for LittleBigPlanet, and it said the word "fun" about 3-4 times. And that was just one advertisement.

Point taken, I only looked it up because I live in the UK and was curious if it was actually true. Given that the economy is in the news almost everyday I think we're feeling plenty of pain over here too...

When you think about it isn't all that shocking that the 360 has dominance in the states - it was made there so the makers know their market, in the same way that Nintendo/Sony do so much better in Japan then any other single country, even when the pricing regimes are very similar.

Hmm... you might be on to something, eventhough it makes me sad.
JRPG's aren't my cup of tea either

Well back on topic if you want to know, the reason they wont drop the price is because there is absolutely no need for them to do so. You might be quite disappointed, but that's the cold hard facts. There are rumours of March next year though....

And I am kind of curious on one aspect - do you play on Xbox live? If yes, how much per month and for how many months. Because anyone who wants to ***** and moan about PS3 costing so much needs to add those costs to their 360 purchase price for a TRUE costing as the PSN network is completely free and has been so since launch - by free, no extra costs on top of what you have to pay for your net costs anyways.

The only gaming adverts I see now days are for 360. But they are absolutely terrible. Just the camera slowly spinning around a gormless looking person's head to reveal they have a rock band or something for a brain. What the hell?!

They are dropping the price to 360 dollars in december I think. New cell proccessor structure lets it happen that way or something.

Wouldn't that be a bad omen, $360?

Well it's funny because Sony didn't seem to learn from their own history. They had the low-power, low-price console and they dominated both console generations. Now they're pulling an N64, Microsoft is pulling a PS2, and Nintendo is pulling a Mac or something.

I would say that Sony is pulling an Xbox, Microsoft an NES and Nintendo a PlayStation.

There is no way that the Xbox 360 will ever be as good as the PS2.

Hubris.

What is so astonishing is that Sony have a decade to learn the lessons of its own success. PS1 was underpowered compared to the competition of the day, the N64, and trampled it into the ground. The PS2 had competition from the gamecube and the monstrously powered (at the time) Xbox to deal with as well as the PC. Once more the machine was less powerful and had fewer features than its competitor (Xbox had hard drive and online play), and it still slaughtered the competition.

This time around Sony have gone and made the most powerful console, with the most mind-numbingly banal and useless features, and overpriced it compared to anything else. They have also dropped the big selling point of it's previous consoles, their HUGE selection of titles, in favour of having Resistance 2 and MGS4.

Sony had a virtual monopoly on consoles ever since the PS1 arrived. The PS2 then swept all their competition away like so much sea-water before the arms of Moses. They really thought they didn't have to bother to make the PS3 a success, so they made it the most expensive console, released it a year later than the competition, and did so without actually having any decent games for it. They were assured by legions of screaming Sony fanboys that their console would be the best thing ever no matter what. They never listened to the people who actually made their previous machines so successful - the gamers who played them because they liked the games.
