Fuck the idea of weapons being noobish. It's just something people say when they get killed by people and don't want to face the fact they got shot in the face.

Gravity gun to some extent. It's fun as hell to use in close combat, and you can have some pretty interesting face-offs with it, especially if you have portable cover.

Alot of shotguns in video games are incredibly underpowered and make them very difficult to use (in multiplayer), I would consider them un-nooby.
Have you ever played Halo?

Anyway, the answer is simply thus: It's not the weapon that makes the noob, it's the way the person uses it.

I know of many but the one that springs to mind immediately is the G3 in COD4, sure it has a good ranged game but it's CQC potential is low, especially if you don't have stopping power.

Also LMGs on Rainbow Six multiplayer, the slow reload rate for most coupled with its accuracy/range issues makes it hard to use in a game dominated by Assault rifles with great power, range, and accuracy.
And in that game the most non nooby tactic is to not spawn camp in a team sharpshooter match. But maybe I'm just venting about that.

The choppers and to some extend planes in BF2, it's really hard to use, but when used by skileld players they can dominate the map.
Are you being serious or are you really really high ? I cant take off and land em & I still get about 6-10 to 1 kills while flying.

Id say the HVAR (The heavy Infantry rifle not the big MG thingy) in BF2142, Its just a pig to use but if you use it right it can sweep the decks.
I honestly have a hard time flying them, but when someone good flies on they can totally dominate some maps with it.

True you don't have to be a total pro to fly one, but it certainly makes a difference

Snipers are noob weapons, people can pretend they take skill to use but they know the dark truth, snipers are for noobs or pros who just don't feel like trying.
I agree. I think they're pretty easy to use if you don't care where you hit someone. So when sniping I say if it's not a head shot, it's not a good shot.

Rocket launchers
Mines
VTOL (Crysis MP)
AWP

*cough*

Seriously though, I guess assault rifles, shotguns and pistols are usually the least nooby weapons in games.

True for the most part, except for situations with imbalances favoring one gun above them all.

Things like the golden gun in goldeneye, or the awp in cs, or even the M16 to a lesser degree in CoD4. They are just better than the rest, and it removes a lot of the challenge to even use them.
LOL gawd the horror of the golden gun...but that was a lot of fun XD

exactly. no weapons are for noobs, because anyone can use whatever they like. i like the rocket launcher on unreal, and i can win easily with it but it takes skill to use well and as i said in another thread a bit ago if you miss you're fucked. so calling a weapon noobish is just an excuse for you not being good enough.

Sniper rifles in pretty much any FPS. And "Dirge" in WoW, naturally. The first one was serious. Sniper rifles take skill and the ability to react very quickly, in addition to reading the movements of the enemy so that you can find cover in a place that will put you within firing range of where the enemy will be in the future.

Meh, in the games I've played, I found that these stronger weapons are either extremely rare and hard to get, or have very low ammo, so that kind of evens things out in my book.
Well, that's the thing; I'm past calling the M16 in CoD4 nooby, but it's one of the starting guns, it fires an incredibly accurate three-round burst (which, with Stopping Power, is three times more than you need to down someone), it has a decent clip, a decent amount of clips (or you can always use Bandoleer to get more), little recoil, and it can get more ammo from any assault rifle. Tad unbalanced, but using it too much gets boring, so people tend to use other things, which is the only thing keeping this gun from really being a noob gun.

Oh, and the Carbine is exactly the same, just with full auto.
