I find myself snowed in last night and I decided to dust of the N64, I pop in Zelda: Ocarina of Time and begin playing. A good 4 hours later I realize it's late and decide to hit the hay, without thinking I turn off the console. After I did this I realized I had just lost 4 hours of my life with nothing to show for it. So I pose this question.

What is the most time you have spent/lost in a game?

Unfortunately, this was not the most time I have lost. When playing Mass Effect I was having issues with autosave corrupting game files. So I turned off autosave and played for a good 5 1/2 hours, unfortunately the house lost power and I lost everything.

So what's your story?

Edit: Made a correction, it fits the topic heading more now. Now includes but is not limited to time lost from particular events as well.

I think it'd have to be Silent Hill 2. I tried to do a run through without saving. Got into the apartment block and I then died.

Either that or Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem after I got up to the level with the Italian architect and realised that I had missed a glyth thing I needed to pick up the previous level. There was no way of going back. So it was impossible to play any more.

Probably one of those countless times as a child where my gameboy colours battery ran out and I lost a few precious hours of pokemon blue time.

Easily Halo 3.

I still play it often, although that's more because all my friends have it, and that they are very closed minded.

If anyone can suggest a cheap, good, multiplayer game on the 360, I would be very grateful.

PS: no MW/MW2, and it can be pretty much any genre.

i would like to say that it was one of the rpg giants like fallout, the elder scrolls or bioware, but while i have lost endless hours in all those games, the one i have played the longest (in hours) is...Plants Vs. Zombies, yup PvZ, i wasted about 90 hours on that game 80 of them used trying to get back that one flower i found or restarting from scratch because i decided to uninstall it.

Oooh, I remember. I was playing Pokemon pearl, and after a good six hours or so of finishing the game, and training Pokemon, my little sister comes to watch. Everything's find, power's up at max, and for this reason, I hadn't saved.

The my sister clicks the game out of the DS.

At once I've probably lost 3-4 hours on many games (Dragon Age, Oblivion, Morrowind, ect).

Collectively, I probably lost 20-30 hours on KoToR2 as it tended to crash on me every 30 mins -> 1 hour. Even quicksaving and having to redo every 5 steps adds up eventually...

9, maybe 10 hours of play due to NWN 1 glitching on me at quicksaving during a marvelous fan-made module. There was an autosave, but it was that far behind and the module was a bit too complicated to try to repeat all that I've done. One of these days I'm going to reinstall it just to retry that particular module..

I cant remember which game it was now but I remember playing for a good 3 or 4 hours straight as it was the end of the game. It was late when I finished and the game was done so I just turned off the console... then I realised I hadn't saved any of it.

I think I just gave up knowing Id finished and never went back to do anything else on it.

Crash Bandicoot the Wrath of Freakin' Cortex.

It took me 3 weeks and 2 Playstation controllers, one which I bit into in my frustration, to beat the damnded Water Elemental boss. I think that was the day that made me resolve my anger problems as a kid.

Edit: Nevermind. Just read your OP properly.

The most time lost would have to be when I got half way through Assassin's Creed 2 on my new 360 until I realised I hadn't told it to save anything for me, at which point I had to restart it to get my XBLAH connection to work. So I'd say about 6-8 hours.

I died 5 times in different spots about 90 minutes in 5-2 in Demon's Souls, so I lost about 8 hours and a good chunk of my sanity.

When I played Knights of the Old Republic on the Xbox 360, because I wanted to pass it one more time.

I had been playing the game for a week already and was nearing the end when suddenly, the next time I try to load up the game, a message came up:
"File Corrupt"

The same thing happened with Morrowind.

I no-stop played Fallout 3 from 7 in the evening to 9 the next morning. Least to say i thought i was dying. I also when Brawl came out had a massive 16 hours marathon with 4 other players.

I lost all my progress om my Arkham Asylum file when it became corrupted. I still hate that game's save system for that. Fortunately I had completed the main game, but all my progress on the challenges was lost, and I were just missing three bats on three challenges too... I haven't brought myself to play the game again to unlock and clear all those challenges again...

Actually I don't know exactly how much time I lost. But I'd say at least 3-5 hours with the challenges, and way more if you count the playtime spent unlocking them by completing Riddler challenges in the main game.

When i was a kid in school, i managed to get a copy of Final Fantasy 8.

I played that damn game every night, every weekend, every day, for...gee, had to be at least four to six months. possibly longer.

I formatted my harddrive and didn't back up my Street fighter 4 save, thinking my progress was saved on my account rather than my harddrive. No luck. After two fruitless hours searching the internet for some kind of cheat to unlock everthing again, I resigned to my fate. I It took me six and a half hours unlocking all characters again.

Computer crashes have cursed me more than once. I've lost many a save game file. A lot of it was due to my own error though. Sometimes not.

As for playing time, I'd say World of Warcraft.
