I have seen that it is safe to say that 90% of star-trek games are shit. now resently this has been geting lower but still. If it isnt bad its over hiped to the point where people think it will be a pice of star trek heven and insted get the USS 50dollarsworhtofshitinacase.

My worst case of ST shit would be Star-trek away teem. Could have been good. But the missons where all the same thing and THAY DONT FIRE BACK WHEN SHOT AT WITHOUT BEING TOLD TO! the lemmings... any way.

So what is the problem with star trek games? are thay that hard to make? are we expecting to much? allso tell what your worst case of ST related shit is.

well, the fundamental problem with most Star Trek games is that they are based upon a series that promotes peace... which is polar opposites of why most people play video games.

Also, the USS 50dollarsworhtofshitinacase, is that a new class of cruiser, or battleship? last I've heard, there's no such designation in the US navy...

Its the name of the ship that the last 50 or so star trek games are named after. You make a good point. but there are the borg. the dominon. the klingons. The cardasiens, The romulans, evil people x y zed... ect.

Sans Bridge Commander (which was awesome) non of them feel like you're part of a Starship crew that go around exploring the universe and stuff. Star Trek is more relationship driven than people realize, so a game (like an RPG) that could take that into consideration would work well.

As someone who once owned the Star Trek game boxset at one point (star fleet acadamy, plus all the awful previous games, like the point and click OS and TNG games, and a game based on Generations i think... this was a good 8 or more years ago now) i would say it was low production values due to developers looking to cash-in in many cases. I seem to recall playing some strategy game set in the TNG/DS9/Voyager universe... turn-based with real time combat... I have memories of nearly cacking myself when i realised a Borg cube was on its way into my territory... and that the game was bastard hard.
Quite enjoyed Elite Force for a while, tense moments running through a Borg cube expecting drones to wake up at any moment... the problem is, phasers just arent as satisfying as, say, a shotgun or heavy machinegun.

The series was driven by characters, not guns.

Games, therefore, fail.
Agreed. They need to make Star Trek adventure games, not space shooters.

Yeah, problem is, you couldn't make a KOTOR style game for Trek, as no one would be too interested playing an overly PC character running around with a tiny phaser wearing a red jumpsuit. Star Wars always had the fashion thing going for it.

Hmm, Elite Force was pretty good, it was a Star Trek FPS of course done in the Quake 3 engine, but they gave you a different team and kept the main characters from the Voyager series mainly to the background or for exposition. It worked, because you probably could have taken all that Star Trek stuff out and it still would have been a solid game. That said, I did enjoy using a Phaser, although...they treated it like a regular ole' laser pistol in the game.

And it got damn good ratings too, so much so I guess that it got a less great, but still okay sequel.

The game you are thinking of is Star Trek birth of the fedration. The game is good but the Borg are game enders. Thay can allmost never be killed unless you have a fleet of abour 40 super ships. Thay are TNG cubes. The ones that can blow though ships at wolf 359. Not the VOY cubes. The ones that voyager can hold its own agenst.

They're based on Star Treck.

Sorry and all, but I really could not get away with any of the series, Enterprise, Deep Space 9, Next Generation, Voyager. Found them all really, really boring.
