We want women to look like cakes... DUH! XD
Sexy, sexy cakes.

I think this forum is pretty much over now. Overall verdict:
Women wear it to feel sexy, men like it because it looks sexy on women. Or men, if you're like that.

Decoration.

Also, particularly soft lingerie can actually feel very nice against the skin, for both partners. Being touched through the material being a wonderful warmup to skin on skin.

Alternatively, tighter, less comfortable lingerie can be a "challenge" to overcome. Corsets are a good example. It makes the nudity harder to get to, and therefore more rewarding when success is achieved.

Finally - romance. It lets one dress up for one's partner. Which is always nice.

Edit: I'm talking about bedroom/sex lingerie, not practical underwear. A bra is just practical if you have much in the way of a chest, and panties are... well underpants. Doesn't get more basic and practical than that.

OT: Because it's sexy. To both look at and feel (for both parties)

Now if you'd excuse me, I'm off to put my brain back together.

The same thing as all other clothing.

The only reason people wear pants is so that other people can take them off.

I love it when my girlfriend puts on the lingerie. Of course she is a well toned Korean girl. It makes her feel sexy and that makes her happy which in turn makes me happy.

It's prolly for your partner more or less, and it's a way to seem or feel more sexy. I dunno what people who wear it actually feel about it, but you'll never hear one of us guys complain...unless it was like Rosie O'Donald or Oprah Winfrey in lingerie...yep...no matter how hard you scrub...the image of those two won't go away...

Sometimes being barely covered is more appealing and tempting than just being flat out naked. Never could for the life of me figure out why that is...
My girlfriend owns a few interesting pieces, but she insists that it's just because they're easy to put on and a little more comfortable than full clothing. Plus, she likes teasing me by always wearing her most alluring clothes when she wants a favor.

also it makes us look a little slutty.. and most guys kinda dig that
Plus makes us feel damn sexy, at least me anyway.

I'm one of those women who DON'T like it. But here is a story from my college years pertaining to the other side;

A college buddy of mine invited me to a "girl's night lingerie party", which was basically her and a bunch of her friends sitting around a dinning room table, eating chocolates, watching some weird yuri DVD, and flipping through Victoria Secret catalogs until they could come up with an order of over $300, at which point they would get a discount and entry into a drawing for about $10K.

I said "No. Clothes have only one purpose, to keep us safe from the elements. Any other purpose is BS."

Her reply "No true. Lingerie makes you feel good about yourself, makes you feel sexy and attractive. The reason we buy lingerie is the same reason you buy black underwear; to feel good about yourself."

To which I said "No, the reason I buy colored underpants is because they come in a package of six, usually on sale, and I don't feeling like wasting my time searching for the magical bag of all white cotton briefs."

I read something recently (don't remember what it was), but it was discussing how the desire to see what lies beneath something gives more drive than simply seeing it. Not sure if I phrased that well, but I think implying nudity rather than outright showing it makes it sexier, as odd as that may sound.

Lost count of the number of disappointing naked pictures I've seen in my years on the web.

This duel image demonstrates to me the best reason for lingerie to exist. Also, note Hollywood, this is what a woman looks like, not an overgrown girl or teenager, but a woman

If you need to ask, I'm afraid you'll never know. What poetry is for romance, lingerie is to sexuality. It has subtle and precise elements to accentuate a woman's desire in the form of clothing. As much as it is about what a man will feel seeing it, it is also the feeling of empowerment it grants the woman wearing it. With all sorts of colors, textures, and designs; it expresses more than words what a woman feels within and throughout.

To some it is nothing more than clothing to be removed, but to the initiated it's all about seduction and a baring of one's soul for a heartfelt act of devotion.
