Samurai Champloo, probably. Sometimes I wonder if I give a different answer whenever this thread is made.

And that is often.

PS: Why is Oruchuban Ebichu never mentioned? Sad face.

You know, it's that one where all the characters had normal hair, the main wasn't an angsty punk with a mysterious past, and the villain wasn't a one dimensional cardboard cut out. Oh Also, I'm positive that the main character had a practical weapon. Can't put my finger on what it was called though.
Oh I know the one you mean, it's Black lagoon right?
The main protagonist Rock is a mild mannered Japanese business man with a fairly boring past.
and revy is packing two modified Beretta 92FS's which I'm sure you would agree is a very practical choice
and yea they all had normal hair not a single weird hair cut throughout the entire series :)

Anyways black Lagoon has got to be hands down my favourite anime ever.

Just one all-time favourite? Can't be done. A few of my all-time favourites, though, would be Eve no Jikan, Planetes, Record of Lodoss War, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Ranma ½.

It has to be Baccano!

Brilliant nonlinear plot, lovable ensemble cast, beautiful animation, and one of the best damn opening tunes I've ever heard this side of Bebop.

And then they have the weird OVA that changed a lot of the tone, but hey.

I'm torn between FLCL and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I don't know anyone who watches Haruhi

You sir, have good taste. Have you watched Samurai Champloo? It's by the same writer as Cowboy Bebop and you can kinda tell by how the story flows.

OT: Forgot to add Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. YESH YESH YESH

It's a tie between Katanagatari:

And The Tatami Galaxy:

This is mainly because they've shown that anime can easily use a unique art style that sets it apart from all others, despite the untrue things some people say. They're also beautifully story heavy and well animated.

Absolutely One Piece. The more the world expands the more meaning and purpose everything has. And through that it has built one power house of a mythology. That and afro-wielding skeleton musicians...

Naruto.

I understand it's not the best. I understand not everyone likes it. And I REALLY understand how stupid the fanbase can be and I apologize.

But, when it comes to anime, I've seen my fair share, and rather than choosing some enjoyed memory of a show, I had to go with what I've always been with and will always be with.

I know it's fanboyism, but goddammit, I love that orange jumpsuited guy and I love his fiery, pink haired love interest, and I love his enraged, psychotic rival, and I love his aloof, quirky mentor, etc.

Its a three way split between Eureka Seven, Gurren Lagann, and FLCL

Most of the Gundam series are close seconds

I like Mecha, if you couldn't guess.

Pretty much this, Black Lagoon is the shit. I always kind of admired the style/art of anime, but I hate alot of the arch-types, cliches, and angstiness. Black Lagoon threw all that out the window and came out being friggin' awesome.

It helps that it takes a lot of influence from action films and grindhouse too.

Since everyone else is posting pics.

Everything in this anime is awesome. Great action, characters, visuals, music, drama, and an awesome (and creepy) villian.
Also, Homura is a fucking badass.

Close runner-ups are:

Bakemonogatari, Death Note, Evangelion,

And K-ON

Nodame Cantabile.

I'll never get sick of the oddball characters and classical music.

Great to see another Baccano! fan. That's definitely one of my favorites as well. And... yeah, that opening is awesome.

Some other favorites of mine are Yu Yu Hakusho (it's what got me into anime in the first place) and Gankutsuou (which is an absolutely amazing retelling of "The Count of Monte Cristo").

No, it's not that one. It had also was set in present time and had characters who were wearing practical clothing as well.

Because a classic is a classic is a classic.
EDIT: I highly recommend this anime for everyone. It's still going with over 600 episodes and over 12 movies.
I am currently reading the Manga. I don't like that its dancing around the men in black for so long with touches here and there of them. Have been meaning to check out the anime for sometime now too.

As for me I have to say Fullmetal Alchemist. Either original or Brotherhood.
