Hmmm, haven´t watched that many series/movies, but from those I have seen probably Kino´s Journey. Fascinating tales in interesting places.

Studio Ghibli goes without saying, naturally.

Seeing as it's the only anime I've ever watched (Unless Naruto: The Abridged Series counts) I'll have to go with the first episode of the Hellsing OVA.

Don't limit yourself. There are many more amazing anime movies out there, Ghibli will only take you so far. I recommend Perfect Blue, I'm going to consider doing a review on it.

case closed. i love the sherlock holmes/james bond gadgets aspect and the story isn't to out there. and also speed racer when i was a kid. i mostly dont like anime for the same reasons as yatzee. to many androdinest males running around with compensatory swords looking emo because hot anime chicks want to rides his willy and he doesnt know how to pronunce the words "yes i would like sexy you hot hot girl!" so he has to be agnsty about it and get out his sexual agression but plunging his "giant sword" into girly look "males" also ninjas are awsome but naruto however is not a ninja (i dont mean to offend naruto lovers this is just my veiws and opinions) if for the pure and simple fact he runs around in a FLORECENT ORANGE JUMPSUIT! how do you sneaky when you look like a traffic cone wouldn't that tip the enimies off when they see a shiny orange object shapped like a small asian boy walking slowly past them....course i also have the same gripe with sam fisher how is it you're invisable when you have big shiny lights all over you clothes? but whatever i don't have anything against anime lovers but its not my cup of tea. but i will admit some do tickle my fancy (basicly the two i just named) also deathnote isn't to bad i like the concept at least and i saw an episode or two where they used the book in inventive ways that i though were clever but for the most part i'd rather watch burn notice or possibly true blood or house or soemthing. also though i think cosplayers get a bad name. i mean why should we only dress up as our favorite charceters on halloween? i'd dress up like ash from evil dead but people tend to get offended when you go to shake there hand witha cahinsaw
So one of your early posts is attempting to paraphrase Yahtzee based on a flawed argument?

I can name around 30 anime series that doesn't have an 'androgynous' male with a compensatory sword, but that's because I've actually looked at enough anime to know not to jump to such a generalisation.

And quite frankly, I couldn't even read the rest of the post because it was a huge chunk of text, it needs paragraphs. Word of advice, Paraphrasing Yahtzee on a flawed argument? Wall of Text? Generalising genres you know nothing about? If you keep it up, you won't last long here. None of these things are liked here, if you change it up however, you will find this to be a nice place to be.

Wasn't this topic up like 2-3 days ago?

Oh well, mines still Cowboy Bebop as it was then.

.. What?

On topic: top anime series would have to be Hellsing (The OVA, but I still have a soft spot for the original series), Fullmetal Alchemist and Read Or Die (the OVA and 'The TV').

Chrome's right, really painful post there. Needs a edit or perhaps a report or two.

And it's good you didn't read on Chrome, the spelling is horrid, I think he figured if he wrote at the speed of which Mr. Croshaw speaks, it'll seem cooler.

I am yet to watch an anime series with any of the things described by xplay3r.

I think he's just a Yahtzee fanboy trying to be cool to be honest.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a good one, and so are Bleach, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Naruto....I guess I don't really have a favorite.

Elfen Lied I liked but I wish it had less nudity so I didn't feel like a pervert.
The nude scenes that aren't fanservice-y shouldn't make you feel like a pervert. They have a purpose other than turning you on. The fanservice....agreed.

Also, two animes because they're so different that you might as well compare Rambo with Seinfeld when trying to decide which is best.

Hellsing ultimate, for having the biggest badass in all of fiction. Although I guess you could argue that another red jacket wearing fictional character with black and white guns [http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/4452/untitled1if1.jpg] beats him in the badassery department. I would say more about why, but really, just look up a single fight scene on youtube and you'll know why.

and

Elfen Lied, it made me cry, and I don't cry at fiction lightly. None of the older disney movies ever particularly moved me, neither did the pixar movies. But this made me cry in sympathy for a fictional serial killer woman, and at the end they were able to make me cry some more with something else that has never moved me in disney and pixars films. I won't say what because if you saw it you know what I'm talking about and if you haven't I'd rather not spoiler you with a spoiler too vague to put in the tags but too obvious to not make me feel bad if anyone happens to be watching it and not having it finished.

A special mention goes to death note.

Cowboy Bebop would have to top it for me.
From there I'd say Black Lagoon, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, FLCL, and one or two I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Texhnolyze, Serial Experiments: Lain, Monster, Perfect Blue (film), Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Grave of The fireflies (film), Welcome to NKH. I'm not actually a huge fan of the average anime, but these i'd swear by ^-^.

mmmmh no. Chrome was trying to be helpful and point out some errors i had made and thank him for it.
you are just being rude and trying to make me out like someone whos trying to be cool like the big boys and thats not it i was simply putting my two cents in and the fact the yahtzee made an aurgument wich i happen to agree with i figured i'd say that i agree with him instead of everyone saying "you just copied what yahtzee said." when i was trying to state my feelings on the subject that happens to be the same feeling as his.
also i didn't type alot because i "thought i'd seem cooler" i wrote that much because i was saying how i felt about the subject because that's was the person who started the thread asked and i happen to have alot to say on the subject

Thank you for your suggestions i wasn't trying generalize. i may have not conveyed my feelings well because i didn't want it to be a novel so by the time i had relized it was to long i hadn't said much.
i appologiez for the spelling errors, I usualy type fast because i think fast and my hands try to catch up with my head. However I'll start taking it slower from now on and not meander so much.
my point actually was that it's just not my thing really. the part's about swords and stuff is mostly towards like final fantasy wich is in anime style mostly. but i know not all of them are like that. I've seen quite a few anime's actually beacuse most of my friends are into anime so i get alot of it, but my best friend is mostly into those types so thats what i get exposed to more often. I shouldn't have said that's what most anime's are because i know it not to be true but being exposed mostly to that type that's what i think about. I shouldn't but I do and i apologiez
I should have explained my points and feelings more celarly then I did and in the future i will keep your advice in mind. Thank you.

I've only actually watched one anime series (like, most of the episodes), and that would be Cardcaptors. That show was actually really good.

Bleach has kept me entertained in recent weeks, it's definitely got onto my top 5.

Dragonball and Dragonball Z probably are my favourites, if you don't count the cash cow known as GT (it has no involvment from Toriyama, I class it as fan fiction), and about half the movies which really didn't tie in with the Dragonball timeline at all.

Also enjoyed Deathnote a hell of a lot.
