The Grim Reaper with a scythe and hourglass. With a crow on the scythe.

That first thing that springs to mind.

A big white horse. Called Binky.
I love you so much right now.

OT: Me, I think of a death representation as a cute girl in a black top hat, an ankh necklace, and goth eye makeup. At least she'll be fun to talk to.

For a strict 'symbol' of death: the ankh.

I have lots that come to mind, but the one with personal meaning for me is a single angel feather. Not too large, but heavy for it;s size, and perfect black with a haze of pale violet all around it.
Think of it as a sort of divine calling card.

so... diversity is a bad thing?
Terrorist groups are, diversity or not.
then why are those up there?
I believe it is meant to be "religion."

OP: For me it is being in a room. The walls, floor, and ceiling are painted, almost mural like, with all of the great things in life. On the opposite end of the room, is a door that is slightly ajar; the transition of life to death.

As someone who is Agnostic I an intrigued to see what is on the other side of that door.

You know that feeling you get sometimes where you think someone is standing behind you and yout turn around and nobody is there so you turn back but you can still feel something standing behind you and it creeps you out? Yeah, that.

You three are all correct. However I'm still right about the reference.
No it's just from Pearl Jam. You're thinking of 'Vic Rattlehead'.

This thing.
*Note, the picture was different in the messaging tab. I'm going to assume you changed it.

I'm damn sure it's a reference/subtle hint towards Vic Rattlehead. It's not everday you see a skeleton looking alike. Then again I could have misinterpreted it but me and a few other people on the good old 'net are going to see it as that. But I'll take what you said on board and leave that to people's imagination from now on.

Oh come on, I got warned for my previous post. I wasn't kidding - to me, the symbol of death means life to me, death is only the beginning to a new life, the death of my old self - to the new life of this one... =_=;

Generalised, the human or [insert creature's] skull itself is normally considered as the symbol of death. The grim reaper is just an offshoot of Thanatos (The greek god of death) while snakes are a symbol of cynicism, sin and the devil(serpent).
Plenty of people don't think that snakes carry negative connotations at all, as evidenced in some people's take on it's use in the Rod of Asclepius.

OT: I don't really have one, I suppose if I had to symbolise death in some way I'd use either a cross on some freshly turned earth, a tombstone/headstone, or a grim reaper but only because they're symbols that can only really be taken to mean death, not because I personally think of them when I think death.
