Because you don't masturbate and overly sexual, that makes you a man?

What? Where's the logic in that?

OT, I think it really only matters if you're a good person. Who cares about gender and the stereotypes that come with it?

Seriously though, where does she get You're a real man if you don't like sex?
Last time I checked, less sexual = less of a man.

You're a man if you shave with a chainsaw! a gun! a bears paws, while they're still attached to a living grizzly!
It's not even that it's less of a man, but rather, less of a human

I don't know, I guess just because I am somewhat of a romantic and I see the beauty of sex, I can't fathom why someone would wish to withhold themselves from it.

If said it before, and I'll say it again - the best kind of boyfriend I can imagin (and I found him, actually) is one, that approaches his life, and relationship the same way a 15th century nobleman (as depicted by every romantic-cliche film/book/game ever) does. :3

It's (to me anyway) less about sexuality, and more about... you know, attitude.

Im expecting lots of genitalia comments but what about people who have a sex-change? Where do they fit into that definition? I think you need to differentiate between sex and character.

My personal definition? There are a lot of "guys" in the world (you just need to be male for that) but a "man" is someone willing to stand up for the right thing and protect others despite what it might cost them personally.
Well, the way I look at it, the word real denotes a purely objective thing, thus warranting the genitalia comment. I'd say that sex change cases aren't still men, seeing as it's not functionable. Originally, they were male but through the wonders of science, they are no longer functionally male.

Only one thing makes someone a verified person, for me, which fits into both genders.

People need to have integrity, in my opinion.

EDIT: Edited for grammatical touch-ups.
I follow you and agree in general, the issue here is the word "real" like you said for you its "purely objective" I think reality is a bit more subjective, you can be male but not a "real man".

I am curious though, if people need to have integrity to be people what about humans that don't have integrity?

To love a woman, and I don't mean on the physical sense, but really love her. A woman completes a man. Sure you can be strong, or intelligent, or both, but all that has no meaning if you don't have anyone to share it.
So you define yourself by who you're with instead of who you are? I think that makes you a real woman!

Seriously though, being a man is the combination owning a set of male genitalia and being an adult. Anything else is just other people telling you what they think you should be, which is bullshit and you should ignore it.

One word. Responsibility. Take it, own it, propagate it. That is what it is to be a man.

They're still finding themselves, without integrity. Thing is, as straightforward as integrity is, it's also a very broad thing. What if you're integral feature is the consistency through being inconsistent?

They can still be "people" to others but I don't seem to be able to respect people who are inconsistent. You can be whatever you want to be, but do it because it's what you feel is best. I remember meeting people whose sole ability to individualize was directly taken from another person. I cannot understand these people who allow themselves to be other people. Thus, through my ignorance of their ways, I can honestly say that this sickened me. I can honestly say, as well, that these people are not my "kind" of people.

If that made any sense at all. I find it hard to explain. It's kind of a "gut" thing, I suppose.

I think what makes a real man is a pair of balls and a penis, I think the pre-req is that they are attached, having some in a jar, or in a backpack would be cheating I feel.

You have to go out into the woods and piss on a bear on a regular basis.

Less jokingly, it's the Y chromosome and testosterone that make real men. Plastic surgeons make fake men.

To be a real man you have to wake up and bench 500 pounds then drink a fifth. Then at lunch you single handedly beat 16 men in a bar fight and drink a bottle of Jack Daniels, you then run home make furious love with and then drink a pint then groom your epic beard

So my girlfriend and her friend got in an argument about me being a "REAL" man. My girlfriend says that since I do not watch porn, do not dwell on sexual subjects much, and do not er...have some "alone time", I am what she classifies as a "REAL" man. Her friend insists that all guys should do exactly the opposite of what I do and should spend all the time with their girlfriend gawking at their tits. Of course, I look every now and then, but I'm not standing there STARING.

So, ladies and gents (but ladies especially), what "makeths the man"? A sex driven idiot? Or someone like me? Or what? And fellas, what do you say makes yourself a man?
Perhaps it's her way of saying she wishes you had sex with her more often or have a more taking charge approach

Um... I do not believe that a woman should be the judge to classify a Real man. It may sound sexist but, Dammit I don't care! It'd be like me trying to judge what makes a good squirrel.

Either way I say you're a man when you put someone else's needs in front of your own.

What a radical idea. You should be burned at the stake for heresy. No-one can state such a progressive idea and get away with it...

Joking of course. I believe what Eight Gauge Hippo up there said. However a MANLY man should have a mustache so thick it looks like it houses its own fauna, a forest of hair on his chest, breaths nothing but cigar/pipe smoke and survives on nothing but whiskey and Guinness.
you forgot armpit hair thick enough to smuggle guns past airport metal detectors without setting them off. and he also has to piss pure testosterone.

Huge nuts, the ability to make a home in a tree, and a tendancy to get women approach you with food in the park?

Works for squirrels and men to be honest.
