We've been through rome, medieval, empire and shogun, most of which twice. My question is what other eras of time could we use? I was always interested in a chinese total war.

Another Rome total war would be great.

I've heard rumors about a Total war game being set somewhere in the 20th century, which sounds pretty darn interesting too.

INUIT: TOTAL WAR

Command vast armies of literally dozens of men.

Featuring unique units such as 'seal-mounted archers' and 'woman in furs with baby'.

Cross the icy wastes with your hordes, then turn around and go home when you realise it's snowy there too.

Modern day, start summer 2010. Of course everything would have to be revamped and there would have to be some sort of spark to set off a global war.

Leaving the option for one nation to control the planet very much open.

How about Cold War: Total War? You could have the US, the USSR, China, and Non-aligned factions duking it out for spheres of influence instead of total control over territories, both supporting sides in certain otherwise-unrelated conflicts and through actually using "hard power". Much like the actual Cold War turned out.

Not looking forward to shogun 2 at all, the era is boring for me and essentially you will only end up playing as one type of army ie japanese. I loved when you could fight as different types ie rome v egypt (Rome) or india v russia (Empire) etc, this is the first total war game Im going to give a miss.

I would have liked to see the American civil war but on an empire style scale ie boer war and other significant events of the time.

It's probably the most modern time period the game could do without loosing the formula for a total war game.

Most of those have been made into mods any way. But I would buy the Kindergarden Incident.

Without dramatically shaking up the the combat engine and how it plays out, all they can do at this point is sequels to the older titles, and to be honest, that's fine. A Modern/20th Century Total War just would not work.

I would love a 3 Kingdoms Total War.
China in the three kingdoms period, yeah, gimme some of that. Would be fairly similar to shogun though, massive foot soldier armies, all three kingdoms using fairly similar weapons, and tactics, although Kongming's repeating crossbow would be cool to see, and making it so Shu Han actually won instead of Cao Wei and continuing the Han Empire =P
I don't think a WW1 would work, every turn would just be, stay in trench and artillery strike enemy in other trench. Hope soldiers don't get trench foot. 'bout it really.
WW2 would be interesting but it has been done so many times in other games that it wouldn't really stand out IMHO. Would still buy it though.

The only place I can think of would be East Asia during the Warring States Period in China or in India. Possibly one during the Unification of Germany(or just as a state in the Holy Roman Empire) or Italy. The only problem here is the world gets smaller. Empire was awesome because of how many theaters it had. It was really only missing East Asia and parts of Africa.

The problem with finding a good era is making sure it becomes viable to use other factions. Modern Age Total Wars are ruined by the presence of powerful, global empires like the British, French, Russians, and Americans. See Vicky 2 for what I mean. There's only one country which can compete with Great Britain in that game, China, and the rest just have to deal with surviving Great Britain. Empire worked because it was set when it was up in the air, Great Britain hadn't yet conquered vast parts of India. France still owned parts of North America, and Spain was balanced out by having half its empire stripped away, and the other half being a vassal.

Total war: Alexander the great
Total war: Rome (ceasar and the like)
Total war: Genghis Khan
Total war: Assyria

I don't care for a modern day total war but I suppose it could work.
