I guess Voltron when it first came on? If that doesn't count, the first real series I started on was Slayers in 1996.

First movie was Akira. *twitch* If you go from watching regular cartoons and then THAT, it's certainly an eye opening experience.

DBZ, around dinner time. Was always a struggle to get our parents to let us watch it.

Speed Racer... I was, like, five and thought it was a lame American-made cartoon with horrible production values

Didn't help with the fact that the characters spoke so quickly I had no idea what the fuck they were saying.

Knights Of The Zodiac (surprised I saw no mention to them)
Yu Yu Hakusho
Ronin Warriors

They were kind of similar, but all were just AWESOME.

Evangelion was the first show I saw. I think Totoro was the first movie.

Funny story - my elementary school went on a field trip to an arts thing in Seattle. They had a demonstration of various types of anime. My class broke down after watching a comedy clip in which a boy got his hand chomped by a cat and yelled a lot. We had a big talk when we got back to the classroom about how violence isn't entertainment. The previous night, I had watched truckloads of animated blood gushing from disembodied giant robot limbs.

Yeah.

Probably Kiki's Delivery Service when I was a small child.
I'm not certain though, as my memory of back then is pretty much crap... but I'm pretty sure it was Kiki's Delivery Service as a child.

DBZ, definitely. Watched it every day after school at 5:00pm.
Though the first anime that I actually went out of my way to find online and watch all the way through was Saikano.

The first anime series that I watched in it's entirety was Eureka 7, but the first one I watched even passively had to have been Dragon Ball, since it used to be one when I got home from school. At the time, I had to have been like, 6, and didn't really understand anything that happened in the show at all.

Well the first one I "watched" technically was either the dub of Inuyasha, Tenchi Muyo, Cowboy Bebop, or FLCL. I watched alot of Adult Swim as a kid thinking the anime and shows were just cartoons. Not sure which one was first.

Then there's Digimon, Pokemon, and DBZ if those count.

Later I actually committed to watching FLCL, but that was still a dub. Mobile Suit Gundam after that, still dubbed.

My first real anime "experience" persay was marathoning the sub of Neon Genesis Evangelion. What I had watched before was still anime, but watching that while subbed just felt different.

Pokemon, I didn't get the channel that aired it and I originally got it as a gift from my aunt. I have like 100 pokemon tapes in my basement. If pokemon doesnt' count, Full metal alchemist.

Ghost in the Shell, when I was 14. A fairly good introduction, I feel, to a medium wherein production values (visibly) were higher than western animation, and less tied down to a certain set of genres.

Well, as a kid I watched Pokemon and Digimon.

The first real anime I watched was Haruhi, a korean kid in high school gave me a disk with the episodes. From there, I watched Kanon, which was also on the disk, and once I discovered fansubs, I became an avid watcher XD

My Neighbor Totoro! I first watched it when I was probably about 3 or 4. My mom tells me it was my favorite movie and I would ask to watch it over and over. Still love all of Hayao Miyazaki's work to this day
