What was the last game that truly blew you away?

I just finished COD 4, after a good billion people told me it was the "best game evar".

I agree with this. Muchly. Not sure if it was the storyline that did it for me, but there was something about the game I just loved.

On a editted note, games before this that blew me away would most likely be Fallout 3 (Shocker, right?), Mass Effect (Again, who would expect that?) and my recent purchase of Fable: TLC (Aha, now that one your really didn't see comming).

Oblivion was the last game that blew me away.

The one before that was Half- Life 2.

Those are the only two so far. I don't think it'll be possible for another shooter to blow me away.

Half Life 2 and its Episodes, and Portal....also TF2 if I have online compatibility. Yeah, my newest game is the Orange Box, and those ARE the best investments I've had in my life only costing $25 - 30 dollars.

Same here, i can't find any games that blow me away anymore. The last was Oblivion, i was wondering and I found myself looking at the mountains just as the sun was rising(or setting, i cant remember) and It had shown through and cast a great yellow hue over everything. It was just beautiful and I think that was the best looking moment I've ever seem in a game.

Bioshock, Oblivion, Gears of War 2, Mass Effect and Halo all are part of the 'blowing away' club.

Delete Mass Effect and add The Darkness, COD 4, COD 5 and Lost odyssey and you have my list.

The Last game that truly blew me away was Psychonauts. My god, it was such an amazing and intuitive idea. I still play it, and probably won't stop.

I think Bioshock, Mass Effect and COD4 were the last 3 which consecutively blew me away. That was 2 years ago. Although Fallout 3 does pull you in once you get into it. That'd probably be the closest from 2008 that sucked me in.

The last game I've played that blew me away was Mass Effect. Chrono Cross came close to doing the same, but being that I was already familiar with it years before I really sat down to play it, I was not blown away by it. I was, however, tremendously impressed by it, particularly how well it has aged, being that it is practically a decade old.

Psychonauts -- Even with the extremely difficult ending, it's still one of the best games that I've ever played.
It's very creative in design and style, it actually has decent sense of humour.

Braid -- Interesting and complex puzzles, different time slowing mechanics in a 2d platformer.
I've only played the demo...but I'm going to buy it soon.

Portal -- Short but it has quite interesting puzzles and it's very fun. It is one of my favourite games.

Those three are pretty much it for games that blew me away semi-recently.

Doom would have to be my choice. I remember playing it when I was seven and running away from the computer every time I heard the hiss-rattle that meant a Cacodemon had just spotted me because I was so freaked out.

I also loved RE4. The learning curve was about three minutes, and from then on it was nothing but good ol' fashioned zombie slaughter.
