Braid, that game is just incredible.

Also, Psychonauts changed my view on how good humour can be in a game when I played it.

Braid. I remember watching the ending sequence with my jaw dropped. Since then, there hasn't really been anything as epic.

Bad Cpt.

Saints Row 2, that game reminded me that you can actually have fun in a sandbox game.

Mirror's Edge.

I am loving it despite it being almost too difficult for me.
Isn't that the perfect difficulty?

I'll say Mirror's Edge too for being the latest truly original game.

Hmm, I'm going to unoriginal and say BioShock was probably one of the last games to really wow me. Fallout 3 was awesome but I haven't played enough of that to get really deep into it.

Tales of Vesperia
Super Mario Galaxy
LoZ: Wind Waker
LoZ: OoT
Super Mario 64

no, this doesn't mean i only play nintendo games or rpgs, but honestly, hardly any of the modern games of the era of consoles has truly blown me away speechless at how awesome they are. Classic gamers will agree

Really has to be Mirrors Edge for me since it really did blow me away. Before that though would be Bioshock for the story and the atmosphere really.

Spelunky. I played a lot of this free indie platformer. It's really addictive and well presented but it came out of the blue and goes completely against conventional wisdom about what makes a game good.
This. Also Cave Story.
