Obviously for me it was Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was the first anime I ever actually watched (well, the first one I ever watched in the knowledge that it was an anime, unlike the cartoons like Samurai Pizza Cats and Robotech I watched as a kid) and it INSTANTLY made me a lifelong otaku. By the end of the second episode, "The Beast", I was literally sold for life.

my first 'adult' anime was probably THE FIST OF THE NORTH STAR!
it was actually also my first anime altogether
which isn't saying much seeing as how I've only seen 10 Animes at most

My first anime ever was "AKIRA". ...And it was shown to me when i was between the ages of 6-7.

-Yeah, love the movie now, but I still hate that fucking giant baby monster. *shudders*

Cowboy Bebop. It was actually my first anime ever. I only watched it about a year ago, maybe two though. If you're talking about gore and such specifically, it'd have to be Hellsing, late last year.

So it can't be mature unless it's uncensored and gory? That's seems rather silly. The first one I considered mature was Full Metal Alchemist.

How is something more mature because it has tits in it?
By mature I think he means "intended for a mature audience."
Yes that is exactly what I mean thank you kind sir.

Oh yes. Robotech and Voltron. I think I was in third grade then. Remember the toys for that stuff?

I don't mean something that can be read by mature audiences, I mean things with "adult themes"

Elfin Lied, and I wish I could unsee it. I was ill for days after watching it.
I bought this boxset for my girlfriend, and she never warned me in the first 2 minutes, a nice made girl gets her head choped off and another guy gets his own eyes shoved into his skull by energy thums O_O
Yeah, in like ep 3 my favorite character gets all her limbs chopped off and I was like, "WTF, this is fucked up" I finished it, but I couldn't eat for two days, and I'm over 300 pounds, so that's pretty serious. Great weight loss program though!
Thats Anime weight watchers for you i guess... :)

I seem to use this to answer a surprisingly high percentage of threads. Space Battleship Yamato, a.k.a. Star Blazers.
