I have never actually PREordered a game... but I have ordered older games that were actually good. Personally, I have the habit of walking into the store, picking up the last copy of a game that looks interesting, buying it, finding out at the counter that it's release day and everyone looks at me like I'm an asshole because I haven't been waiting in line for 4 hours. tee hee hee

Mount & Blade with an optimised system and Oblivion graphics. I would preorder that in a heartbeat. Instant GOTY without a doubt.

EDIT: I'm considering buying the Japanese-only release of the Biohazard collector's set. I already have all of them though ... but damnit I want an Umbrella lapel pin.

If I really want the game, and it's a lower price (Portal 2) and/or comes with some small DLC kinda thing (Magicka) then I'll pre-order. I don't often pre-order because I don't often buy games new. I'm far too poor for that.

As the title says, what would make you pre-order a game?
A genuinely quality game by a company that produces stuff I enjoy.

Free pizza and/or Batman. One of those is an offer I've never seen. The other is the reason I pre-ordered Arkham Asylum in the first place.

First of all having money. Secondly if the game looks promising and if it is made by a company that has done great games in the past. Bioware and Blizzard are two companies that I can pre-order games from and have done in the past.

I have pre-ordered one game in my life. FFX-2, and that was only because I traded in a load of games and they could only give me vouchers rather than a store card with credit and I knew that I would lose them.

Terrible game...

I like having a competitive edge and also if there's special collector item stuff you can only get by pre-ordering it. I don't really like it but I can't see a massive boycott in the future for pre-orders so I might as well go with the crowd here.

Outside of it being a good enough game to validate the $60 price tag...?

A signed statement from the company offering a money-back guarantee that this was a complete finished product, with no hidden code on it for 'DLC' to be announced within a three month window of the games release date. Gimme that, and I'll be much more likely to do a pre-bie.

A price under $40.
This.

Sorry, but a postcard-sized artbook or one in-game silly hat isn't enough to make me wager $60 + tax on an upcoming game's quality.

Because it's going to be a popular video game and I want to ensure I have a copy to enjoy maximum fun on any online play.

The one time I actually did preorder a game, it was only so I could be sure that I'd get the Collector's Edition. So, I guess an awesome CE is what it takes to get me to preorder. And, of course, it has to be a game that just looks so amazing that I couldn't bear to wait past the first day to get it, which is rare.
