A good demo that accurately reflects the actual game, some swag, a decent price.

Or maybe just a guarantee that if I end up hating the game I could get a full refund.

If it was slightly cheaper or came with some cool trinkets with it I might. Haven't preordered in a long time though.

A game I want day-one. I care not for twinkets, I dislike DLC generally, the only 1 I liked was Lair of the Shadow Broker, which happened to be better than the normal game. ME3, Batman: Arkham City, Skyrim, the games I'll be in the fetal position rocking back and forth until I get them.

A cheaper price and maybe a scenario that you could only get if you got a prordered version of the game, and not DLC, I mean an actual level in built in the game. I really don't like DLC.

Extra content, not in games. Things like Halsey journal in Halo:Reach limited edition.

Might preorder MW2 due to impressive trailers and promise of Survival Mode.
Really? It's a bit late to pre-ordering that.

OT: If I like the game I'll pre-order it. However goodies always give me an extra want to get the game. For instance, I was planning on pre-ordering Assassins Creed Revelations, however I wasn't planning on paying an extra £30 to get the goodies. But, I did and I feel great about it.

Since it dosn't cost any extra to preorder things, usually when I know it's going to be a first day purchase.......and incentives like extra characters and what-not influence it too.

Someone saying here is the exact price including tax for the game and the only way you could ever play this is if you take this money and preorder it.

I like to wait until the game has been out for awhile and has the collectors edition or UC with all DLC included for like $20 - $30.

Gaming swag. Seriously, I am a total whore for things like an artbook. Best way to get me to pre-order.

Lower price or a significant amount of free DLC (both will never happen)
Not some pointless burlap map.

Me wanting to play it. Don't really need more. I usually research my games beforehand so by march i usually know what i'll buy throughout the year.

What would get me to pre-order is it being a game that I really loved the previous game. An example of this is Skyrim and Portal 2.

As the title says, what would make you pre-order a game?
Hmmm... hard to say...
Maybe if naked Jessica Alba would deliver the game to my door? That sort of thing.

A game I actually want or a game in a series that I already have at least two installments of with almost triple digit hours sunk into and am emotionally attatched with the characters. (on that note I currently have four pre-orders. Darksiders 2, The Darkness 2, Batman Arkham City fall into the first catagory, and Assassin's Creed Revelations falls into both)

The Mass Effect 3 colletor's edition has me drooling and counting my money.
I didn't bother with the ME2 edition...so I'll say it's the possibility that the artbook has some of my favorite characters in it ie, the VS.

And it looks shiny.
