Invader Zim started in 2001. And for all those good 90's cartoons, let me mention these two: Hammerman and the New Kids on the Block cartoon.Goremocker said:God I miss the 90's cartoons...back then, cartoonnetwork was full of adult themes and black humor...god those were good shows...Dexter,Courage,Invader zim,Johnny bravo,Grim Billy and Mandy, and soo many more...those were the good days...
Yes, yes you do.kyosai7 said:I need to find a copy of Return of the Joker uncut someday..

While I'm not a fan of Rugrats I could add even more to that list like AHHHH!! Real Monsters, Animaniacs, and Cow and Chicken.I really wanted to add the shows that you said but I'm short on nostalgia time.Fox242 said:They aren't funny, intellegent, creative, or even charming. They are just down right stupid. There aren't any real issues going on withj these shows or even any good conflicts. The story for all these shows is basically the same: idiot lead character has dumb adventures with vastly moronic friend/pet/thing. It's all crap! Where's the good stuff? Even though I'm not a big fan of the 90s, people sure knew how to make good cartoons during those years.
Damn straight friend. I miss all of those cartoons and also ones that were not on that list like Samurai Jack, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, and Ed, Edd 'n Eddy. Those were the days indeed. There's no way that a show like Johnny Test can hold a candle to Dexter's Laboratory.Goremocker said:God I miss the 90's cartoons...back then, cartoonnetwork was full of adult themes and black humor...god those were good shows...Dexter,Courage,Invader zim,Johnny bravo,Grim Billy and Mandy, and soo many more...those were the good days...
I thought someone might respond this way. Super Hero Squad isn't all bad, and there are occasional fun silver-age references or clever set pieces, telling by the 3 or so episodes I've watched, but it's indicative of a larger problem stemming from the way society treats children. It takes the characters of the Marvel Universe and strips them down to their most basic elements in order to make them easy to understand. It doesn't tackle big themes in the way the Spider-Man or Batman animated series did (I love Batman: TAS, sorry), and jams as many characters as possible into the show, even when they serve no purpose. It oversimplifies and pretty much just becomes bright colors on the screen, with absolutely no deeper meaning. I think the writers do the best with what they're given, but even judging from the art style, this thing is just meant to be a marketing bonanza in order to sell toys, similar to the Schumacher Batman movies. It's a commercial, not entertainment.kyosai7 said:Hey, I like the Super Hero Squad Show! Not enough cartoons do that anymore. For instance, you want to know how I learned about the The Most Dangerous Game? Johnny Bravo. Granted, there was some shit back when I was a kid, but it was at least better than what kids have now. We had X-Men: The Animated Series, for God's sake! What do they have? This. Also, As cool as the X-Men Animated Series was, I find myself preferring X-Men: Evolution a bit more, for the good fights scenes and good plots. Hated Batman:TAS, couldn't get into it, but I really like Batman Beyond... I need to find a copy of Return of the Joker uncut someday..
Oh my god a tear of nostalgia actually came from my eye i miss this show that much i wish i was older when i watched it so i could fully value the genius of that showRatRace123 said:I second this, todays cartoons are stupider. Just for kids, and not for adults, unlike back in the good old days of the sharp writing of the 90s. I'm not sure whether it's the kids or the cartoons themselves, but they're getting dumber. I don't think we'll ever see anything quite like this againFurburt said:It's because they look down to children, not up. The old days had plenty of things children wouldn't get, but they kept them in anyway, and they were better for it.
Nowadays, everything is totally tailored to make sure that nothing that's too advanced for the kiddies gets in. Fuck that. How else are you going to learn?
The truth.Irridium said:A big part of me wants to say its because of Nostalgia.
Nothing will compare with watching old cartoons with the wonder of a child.
Granted since they replaced the great cartoons of the past with things like "CN Real" and Cartoon Cartoon Fridays with that fried piece of shit known as "Fried Dynamite", I'm not so sure.
One things for sure though, cartoons lost a lot of balls.
Remember Courage the Cowardly Dog? That show had balls, and if you tried to show something like that these days, shit would hit the fan. I remember its last episode... god damn that was sad.
Both "Perfect" and the one where he lost his parents to that dick of a veterinarian. Both those episodes taught me that no one is perfect, and fuck anyone else who tries to force you to be perfect. And in the latter, it taught me to love and cherish my parents. Because they can be taken away instantly at any time.
And don't even get me started on Megas XLR. Whoever cancelled that deserves to be mauled.
What do cartoons these days teach kids?
Transformers Armada was amazing and had good animation.Dok Zombie said:God damn it why do they feel the need to always make new versions of cartoons in that horrible quasi-anime art style? Like with Transformers Armada, great storylines, awful animation.antipunt said:Hmm...well, all I can say is:

Anybody notice anything?
If I wanted to watch anime (which I don't) I'd watch some fucking anime (which I won't), stop trying to rip off another cultures art style just because it's in vogue at the minute, ten years from now this shit is going to look so dated.
you my friend; have excellent taste (lol)Irridium said:A big part of me wants to say its because of Nostalgia.
