What is Beserk about?
To put simply, in a world of sword and magic, one man tries to exact revenge on a horde of evil monsters who are threaten to take over the world. Complete with lots of guts and gore and bare boobs. It's known for the detail of the arts and one of the nicest looking manga out there. The story wise it's decent if you like that sort of thing.

My two abslolute favorite anime are:
and
I know people who like Baccano, but i've never met a person who's SEEN Planetes, let alone liked it like i do
I like the original Planetes manga better than the anime version. The anime version has too much political aspect to my liking, where as the manga focuses mainly on existential and self discovery with politics taking the backseat.
The author of Planetes has a new manga called vinland saga which is drastically different from Planetes but also a good read.
See I really feel that the political stuff really worked in the anime. I feel that all the stuff with INTO and the space defense front really helped the world feel real, add tension to the plot, and explore the possible consequences of space development.

I have heard of Vinland saga before, but sadly have not read much of it. i would buy it but it hasn't been licensed.
For me I really enjoy the manga version which tries to answer the question about the relationship between human and universe, but I guess to each his own. However if you enjoy political theme in your anime, may I suggest the complete series of Legend of Galactic heroes. It is truly a one of the kind space saga that deals heavily in politics. You won't be able to find it licensed anywhere outside Japan because of its theme, but you can find the main series fansubbed completely.

Hm, just struck me I didn't mention what my fave anime is. Anyway, it's Serial Experiment Lain and Kino's Journey. I'm not much of a fan of your average mainstream anime. Well, I am a fan, but I prefer unusual stuff.

Hayate no Gotoku is my favourite manga by miles but then I'm a sucker for romantic comedies.

My favourite Anime is a coin toss between Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop

I don't really have a favorite, I guess I'm fond of Death Note, Blood +, FLCL, InuYasha + the Final Act, Hellsing and some others.
I really like Horror and Comedy

Right now I'm watching FMA Brotherhood, Highschool of the Dead and Hellsing Ultimate

and I'm reading Detroit Metal City

Berserk. for both anime and manga. the anime is good but the manga is raw, beautiful and to be honest just kicks ass. a must read for anyone who calls them self a manga fan. other animes would be outlaw star and samurai champloo. but seriously go read berserk right now.

Its hard for me to watch Brotherhood because I saw the Manga first, I know whats gonna happen and it makes it kinda dull to watch its good, I mean the music, the art, and the voice acting is almost perfect
