My home town is famous for canned sardines and for being the centre of Norway's oil industry, in addition to being Europe's cultural capitol (together with Liverpool, I believe) in 2008. Oh, and they also just hosted the world championship in beach volleyball.
Edit: Oh, the town/city is called Stavanger. Might make sense to include that little piece of information.

Wow, and here I thought I lived in a backwoods cesspit of a town.
Columbus OH - most fast-food joints per square mile, and hands down most pizza parlors. If we aren't still the fatest city, it's because we've stopped reading that poll in favor of watching the Food Network.
I live in Wakefield. Famous for being the location where Sandal Castle is. Sandal castle was one of the only castles in the north to be kept by William the Conqueror and it was also the Landmark of a pivotal battle in the War of the Roses as Duke of York Hid there from the opposing side and even died during the battle of Wakefield. And the events that happened here are the background for the shakespeare play Henry VI during Act 1, scene 2.
Also Wakefield is known as the capital of the Rhubarb Triangle, an area notable for its early forced rhubarb .
And most importantly has one of the greatest Prisons in the whole of England and holds notable prisoners such as the Yorkshire Ripper.
I live in Newport Beach, California. We had a show about the local school I go to called Newport Harbor: The Real OC (anything but real, the cast did go to the school but their all smug prick that everyone at the school hated!). Another show called The OC. I think Ronald Reagan had a vacation house somewhere around here. Something with John Wayne (John Wayne is God in Newport Beach!). Also, It's just a really nice town. Everyone should see this town before they die but remember, the people here are real asshole!
Loretto is where the estate of Charles Schwab is located. He was a railroad tycoon, and his fortune would have been equivalent to that of Bill Gates. He left behind St. Francis University, which is the only reason why the town of Loretto even exists. Besides that, we have a few taverns and a convenience store...and an embroidering shop.
