My interest collapsed in the series the moment I discovered X was going to have voice acting. Don't get me wrong, I like voiceovers in games as much as anybody (They were the strength of nearly every Working Designs game ever) and I'm glad those actors are getting work, but Final Fantasy just felt poorer for it. Maybe if they hadn't used such relatively well-known voice actors, it might not have been so distracting, but after ignoring X almost completely, I tried to give X-2 the benefit of the doubt. The moment I heard Pamela Adlon's tradekmark "Bobby Hill" voice come out of an airship pilot, I felt I'd made a huge mistake in trying to give X and X-2 a chance.

So, as far as I'm concerned, I'll stand by what I affectionately refer to as the Holy Triumvirate: the last three single-digit titles on the original Playstation.

I never played one through six, either; I was a Sega Genesis fan at the time Final Fantasy III/VI came out and wasn't an RPG fan during the NES days. My time with the series began with VII, which I would normally chastise you for not playing, but you like VIII, and that earns serious points in my book. You're all right, dude.

It hasn't yet... thankfully I'm still looking forward to XIII
I keep buying them, but at the moment, the only three games that I own and don't really enjoy are FFX, X-2, and XII. I want to have faith in XIII since the series generated a few of my favorite games ever, but...grrr. I feel like a traitor.

I've got XII there ready to play, as soon as I finally finish Kingdom Hearts (I have to level up heaps though first, stupid final few bosses). I'll have to see what I think of it, I didn't mind X... dragged on a bit though.

I wont lie i do not like JPRG's but I've played most of the FF games just so i can debate this topic with my friends. I think FF died at 10, because the combat system went way to traditional. Every other FF had some modification that made the combat slightly different from previous installments or from other JRPG's. 10 didn't and 12 change was terrible.

I know this is a bit off topic but i believe that the average combat system in JRPG's are outdated. the simple attack defend magic menus were fine in the late 90's but the technology has changed greatly since then and JRPG's need to understand that. skies of arcadia was the highlight of JRPG's for me and was the last one i truly enjoyed. that was 10 years ago. JRPG's need to innovate and i will starting playing them again when they do that.

FF never really stuck to me. Its popularity did push me away though as FF fanboys irk me. However I have played FFX (both first and 2nd), FFXI (bought it recently, the next day 360 broke, so now Im wasting my free trial month :/) and my most hated FF1. I played a remake of the first and I got permenantly stuck. I ended up in a really bad way and fell down some hole into a 3 space spot with only oen way out guarded by a monster I could not beat and when I died and Odin sent me back, I was sent right back to that trapped place. Also weapons and skills all would eventually permenantly break so that too pushed me away.

When it went pay-per-month online.

I just couldn't care any more. As it was, I found FFX really hard to get into, and as beautiful as the graphics were, it was really the true start of so many JRPG stereotypes in character design. Really, FF7 started it, but it was new and cool back then. FF10 really wore out its welcome.

The Tales series also ended up being a pretty nice knife in FF's back for me. You got the same desirable linear story but with a much more active combat system. Though that ended up being pretty dry after a while then too. I think JRPGs can be fun, but they are all getting too samey, and if you've played one, you just might have played enough of them.

I absolutely despised 12 so I'll go with that. It had absolutely no charm. All you know about the main character is that he wants to fly and just tags along through the narrative. The battle system pretty much plays itself too. I felt so disconnected from that game. 13 looks fairly interesting so far and I really enjoyed playing Crisis Core so FF isn't entirely dead to me yet.

9, 'twas terrible, and after that my interest in FF sort of subsided, but I still play every new release, with the exception of X-2, guess I am your average hopelessly lost brainless consumer.

So when did you stop liking the Final Fantasy series if you ever liked it at all?

for me it started sliding downhill at 9 and went dead at 10. I recently got FF crisis core hoping that would spark some mild interest in the FF series but alas it failed horribly >.<
Downhill at 9, HOW DARE YOU GOOD SIR. THAT IS BLASPHEMY. YOU SHALL BE HANGED.

(sorry for my outburst...)
9 was the last good one. I just say started going downhill cause they did my most hated thing in a game. after you fight who you think is the final boss they bring some character that you have never even heard of or was mentioned to fight. but again 9 was the last good one ^^
Nice save. And yeah, *Boss* was a bit stupid and a bit of a let down.
